The term "open border" is a massive exaggeration the far right propagates and hypercatastrophizes for political purposes, ignoring that more money and resources than ever have been poured into border security. I've been to the border many times myself and witnessed the security. I have a client who is a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper who was pulled away from his home turf to help with border security. 

When you have huge waves of desperate people swamping the border, it's impossible to keep them all out. Is it a huge issue? Yes. Is the border "wide open?" Hell no.

We had a bipartisan bill on the table, but Trump and his henchmen torpedoed it for political purposes, meaning he needed the border to remain an issue for his self-servicing purposes, which is pretty much how he approaches everything. Everything is all about him all the time.

Since the story originally broke and was criticized we have had 4 of the individuals shown in the original video arrested and charged with murder.  We have had at least two arrested for a running (driving) gun battle down Havanna Street following the Venezualean election results in which gun battle an unmarked police car was hit with gunfire and a pedestrian shot.  (the investigation and arrests took many months, they were just completed) Now we have the latest incident where 14 to 19 (depends on the reporting) Venezualans who seen like the belong to Tren De Aragua have been arrested for kidnapping and torturing illegals who reside in the apartment complex featured in the original story from late summer.  The local paper, the Aurora Sentinel also has had a story reporting that these individuals gather at a local park weekend nights, taking over the place, before heading out to race around the city, defying police efforts to pull them over.

It’s telling that you find it amusing that gang members escaped capture. Hopefully nobody loses their life as a result but if it’s true they’ve identified the leak, we need to save a spot at Gitmo for them.
