Good.  No work no pay. Maybe they’ll self deport.

As deportation efforts ramp up under President Donald Trump, local Republican Party members say it’s a much-needed mission after an immigrant truck driver caused traffic mayhem in South Carolina earlier this month, shutting down a highway after claiming to have a bomb in his 18-wheeler.

The GOP leaders say it’s another case of former President Joe Biden’s lax immigration system affecting hardworking citizens, adding new Trump administration deportations can't get started fast enough.

Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, 28, was stopped by state transport police Jan. 2 around 2:45 p.m. for having a missing license plate on his tractor-trailer, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS).

Illegals aren't "applying" either.  And illegals are the reason they don't modernize and automate these processes so labor isn't the real issue.  The availability of CHEAP, EXPLOITABLE labor is.

Well these farmers need to learn to adapt... but until then, prices of groceries and at restaurants will skyrocket.

Better than the alternative.  And to be clear, I favor a true guest worker program if it's needed.  That happens AFTER we secure our border and get rid of as many illegals as possible though.

They will.  But so are the costs on our infrastructure and health care system with unlimited illegal immigration as we have today.  We need a work visa program for these people who do jobs that most Americans won't.  I grew up in a farming area and worked in those fields before I was old enough to get a job elsewhere.  It is hard work and it's true most Americans don't want those jobs.  The pay sucks and the conditions are tough.  It's what let me know as a kid I needed to work hard and get to college to not end up there.  But for our security and economic reasons we need to start fresh and figure this out.  Yes prices are going to go up because the right way to do it is get work permits/visas and have those people paying in taxes.  In the end that will force wages up and higher prices.  Nobody likes that end result but the inflation in that one area will at least somewhat be offset by the tax revenue and savings on infrastructure and healthcare where we are currently bleeding resources.  It's also a huge national security issue that we have no idea who is here.

Agreed that we need to start fresh but the way to do that is to grant amnesty to most of those already here. By doing that we don’t disrupt current prices and we create revenue by making these people legal and paying income taxes. Then we can regulate who comes in next.

But what Trump is proposing here (deporting millions and coming up with a guest worker plan afterwards, maybe) is insane. It will never work. Even to try seriously will cause intense chaos (which is why I think this is all for show.)

No it's not. If you're here illegally then you gotta go. No exceptions, that's the ONLY way this works.

Nope.  If you're illegal GTFO and apply legally.

Probably not but that's the way to do it. You can't pick and choose who to deport. That wouldn't work.

Not deportations but will help with our immigration issues:

This breaks my heart.

I haven’t discussed it here, and I won’t get into any details, but I’ve spent the last several months working with World Relief and WelcomeCorps helping a refugee family near me. It was all volunteer work, I spent my own time and money helping the family find an apartment, work, medical, get the kids in school, etc. My whole family chipped in. I wanted to do something more than simply donate money to causes I believe in; I wanted to play a part. It was the most rewarding experience of my life.

Now that is all done. With a stroke of the pen President Trump has cancelled the entire program. I’m sure many of you, like @Strike, think this is good news. I find it terribly sad and shameful. This is not what the USA is supposed to be about. It’s not in keeping with the Statue of Liberty. It’s a disgrace IMO.

Hopefully, one day soon we’ll find our way again. Some of us will keep fighting for it.

Military heading to the border to help.  All these things Biden could have done.  He said he did everything he could.  What a focking liar.

Oh I predicted there would be a big show for sometime. They’ll round up the major bad guys and that’s a good thing.

When it comes to the millions of non-violent undocumented people who work in our fields, our restaurants, do our construction and clean our houses - I don’t think these people will be touched. If I’m wrong that would be terrible so I hope I’m right.

Quote

Personnel started moving to the border earlier Wednesday, according to a military official briefing reporters on the condition of anonymity to provide additional details on the deployment. The troops will include 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton in California, and the remainder will be Army.

Its one thing to send "troops".  It is entirely another to send Marines.  This suggests to me that they anticipate run-ins with the cartels.

For example, putting the National Guard/Army down there is like putting a "beware of dog" sign on your house.....putting Marines down there is like lining your front sidewalk with a pack of Cane-Corso's...... who desperately want some one to fock around and find out....

It’s really stupid. Cartels don’t send their drugs across the border and they certainly don’t come across the border in large numbers. They sneak the drugs into our ports. As Trump would know if he bothered to talk to the DEA. This is all for show. It’s going to cost a ton of money and will achieve nothing.

Our 60 year failed War on Drugs should have taught us that you can’t fight this by using force against the suppliers because there will always be more. You need to reduce the demand.

It might be more than what is required.  But if you have 500 Marines in front of you, ready to engage, you know everything is well covered.

Rather have them, and not need.....than need and not have.

I actually want the cartels to try something, and then I want those Marines to rip them to pieces....literally.....:headbanger:

Sounds like what Reagan did.  At the time i predicted, accurately, that it would not be a one-time grant of amnesty, as was absolutley promised.  I predicted it would be a precedent.  that time and again we would not be vigiklent, and taht each time folks would say, well lets grant them amnesty and start over, but this time wee really mean we will enforce our borders.

So long as we are lenient folks will push the boundaries, violate the law, and then seek allies, like you, to become their apologists.

Uh, yeah, they do. They send quite a bit through ports of entry with the expectation that some of it will be caught and confiscated. They also send it across the border through established smuggling routes.
