The funny thing about tariffs is that I can pretty much avoid them. Not so much with income taxes. 💯🤡

How do you avoid the tariffs?

15% deal reached with Europe.

I suppose we should be relieved that it’s not higher, which would truly have wrecked our economy. 15% is not good though. It’s still going to be a painful tax that will hurt us. It will eventually be passed on to the consumer. And for what?

It’s revenue for the US Govt passed on as cuts to US income taxes. That was an easy question to answer.

Other than maybe gutterboy, is there anyone on this site that is dumber at economics than this guy?

And maybe squid and mdpee? I mean, liberals in general know absolutely nothing about money. Maybe that's why they are all so broke and looking for government handouts.

What?  There is no tax cut offset the tariff tax we are getting.

I'm waaaay better of.  I'll pay an extra $100 for my next dishwasher if I need to. That's nothing.

And keep interest rates high too, that only affects the poor.

Today, President Trump secured a HUGE, POWERFUL TRADE DEAL between the U.S. and EU 🇺🇸

The EU will:
💰 Invest $600 Billion in U.S.
⚡️ Purchase $750 Billion in American Energy

Bill Maher ‘wrong’ about Trump’s tariffs: ‘I gotta own it’

 Summarize

Asher NotheisJuly 28, 2025 12:00 pm

Maher cited Trump’s use of tariffs as an example, saying he was among “probably most people” who believed tariffs would have a negative effect on the nation, but “that didn’t happen.”

“But look, the stock market is at record highs. I know not everybody lives by the stock market, but I also drive around. I don’t see a country in a depression at all. I see people out there just living their lives,” Maher said Monday on his Club Random podcast.

I appreciate Bill Maher, he is an old school liberal.....he still possesses the ability to admit when he is wrong.

I still find it baffling that so many people really cannot comprehend why this is all working so well. This is not hard to follow that Trump was working this masterfully....

Republicans introduce Bill to send $600 checks to all Americans claiming that their tariff rebates

I do not agree with this.  That money should be spent to pay down our debt, or be provided to military veterans in need before we do this crap.  -_-

Moreover, the amount is not too much but this is an inflationary move.

What we are witnessing is the important distinction between reading textbooks and working within markets.  No doubt there are a section of folks who are mystified because the once read an opinion about Smoot-Hawley or some other irrelevant element and think they know.....but they dont know sh!t....

Posts like this are going to be especially embarrassing a few months from now. But unfortunately I won’t be gloating about it because I’m going to feel the pain as much as everyone else.

Well then, let's just put your reply away for a few months and then revisit it and see how well it ages

What we just witnessed is a guy that conveniently ignored the fact that tariffs were largely paused giving businesses a chance to import a large amount of goods before they kicked in and thus haven't had an effect on the economy yet.  Not only did he ignore this, but he's now claiming that he was right all along.  Truly a spectacle.

What we just witnessed was a master class in how to conduct negotiations to achieve the desired outcomes. Even the devoted anti-trumpers are having to admit as much, but hey, let your hate dictate how you react.....

I would love to hear what the desired outcomes were and what we actually achieved.

We heard so many different desired outcomes between balancing trade to building factories to raising revenue.  All we have done so far is raised some revenue which I would argue there are easier and better ways of doing so.  But feel free to explain this master class.

I think you might not be honest here.  You only want him to fail because you hate him, the person.  I get that....but hoping he will fail and then people will suffer is maybe not the best place for you, mentally and emotionally.

So far, its going well, and I hope this trend continues.  I have to assume at some point he will make a mistake, and I hope its not a big one.  But, simply not making really bad policy means we are doing far better than Biden, who really ruined things for many people

I'm not rooting for people to suffer, rooting for the opposite.

So about that masterclass, desired outcomes and how he achieved them?

Why don't you get an education and see for yourself? You always want others to feed you the information .

Let me just say this.....all those people, to include yourself, who were wrong about tariffs might want to pump the brakes....just opposing him because you hate him clearly carries the risk of you losing some credibility....dont you think?

Donald Trump’s trade policy is in danger of demonstrating the truth about one of those old definitions of an economist: someone who sees something working in practice and explains why it will never work in theory.

I wasn't wrong about tariffs.  We haven't seen the full effect of the tariffs due to the pause.

Last time I'll ask... So about that masterclass, desired outcomes and how he achieved them?  I'm assuming you are refusing to answer this because you can't.

To be fair, we have not yet enjoyed all the benefits tariffs will bring, right now we are only observing the tremendous revenue gain while inflation remains under control.  There is actually a much larger benefit down the road for employment and with it tax revenues.  But there is a run on that, you see... employment rising DOES actually have a formidable inflationary impact, unlike tariffs....

So his masterclass of deal making, securing better outcomes for this nation is still under way, questioned answered.....

So previously you stated we just witnessed was a master class in how to conduct negotiations to achieve the desired outcomes.  But now you're saying the masterclass is still underway and we haven't seen the desired outcomes yet.
