Here come the tariffs

Fair enough. Having read a lot about this topic, I believe I do. And I think Trump is making a terrible mistake here for our country.

But let me add that there is always the possibility that you and @RLLD are correct, that this will cause Mexico, Canada, and China to change policies to our benefit, that it will help with migrants and fentanyl, that Trump will declare victory and the tariffs won’t happen or will be quickly removed. I hope that is the case. I hope he turns out to be the brilliant master negotiator that RLLD is claiming. We’ll see.

Tariffs can come and go with the swipe of a pen.

If there is anything Trump likes more than tariffs, it's winning.  Also himself.  I don't think his end game is large permanent tariffs, but he may implement some if he thinks it makes sense as part of an overall brinkmanship play. If they don't work like he had hoped, he can easily undo them.

It's not like threatening to drop a nuke, after all.

This to all the Liberals about to have a stroke.  Deep breath, it's not a nuke!  :)

Plenty of dead beats collecting welfare.  It's time they pay their "fair share" to the till.  Agree?

I would love if my taxes went down because of less money to dead beats.  But I also know I ain't gonna be picking strawberries in 100 degree temps (neither are you or any of your citizen neighbors) ...  if those deadbeats wanna do it, fine with me. (FYI if they deport the deadbeats, the taxes wont go down except for the billionaires)

Your statement that there is no “silver bullet solution” (which I agree with) contradicts your earlier assertion that Mexico can easily step up and avoid these tariffs entirely.

No, it does not, if Mexico negotiates, Trump will reduce or eliminate the tariffs.   If he is as smart as i think he is, he will force more concessions than just the immigration element.

Here is a simplified version of how this works. I may want something from you, but have no way to get what I want, I have no influence or leverage.  But..... I might know that your wife wants your bathroom redone, and I can make that happen....so I introduce the idea of doing it.....when you ask the cost.....it becomes the thing I want from you.

Again, an oversimplification.....but understanding pain points, desires, needs, wants......these become your tools.

SO of course I would trot out the threat of tariffs.....and if you are Mexico....and you know very well what he did to China with those tariffs....you have their attention.  And then you mediate with them, you foment later arrangements.

It's funny, a "fair wage" only applies to legal citizens.  Otherwise liberals wouldn't make the stupid argument to pay illegals below a living wage to pick out fruits and veggies.

Classic conman strategy.... a set up, then a "walks out of the white house getting his... without actually coming through".

They should be payed a fair wage... but would you pick fruits in veggies in a field all day in 100 degree heat for $20 an hour?

Not con man at all, its called negotiating, and you NEVER let your opponent know what your real desires are.   This is how to be a leader in global politics.

Agreed.... but we are talking about Donald Trump... who has (con) failed his way upwards in almost every venture has ever undertook.. except conning people into thinking he is naturally orange and voting for him that's where he stuck the landing somehow.

He may or may not have done what you said.  My personal opinion of him does not cloud my desire for positive outcomes for this nation.  So, by all means, hate him to your hearts content and lambast him......while you are deferential to Democrats.

I am fine with it, just so long as we get the good outcomes.

No, I'm beyond that but my 19 year old son may.  $20 an hour to pick?  You are not asking them to dig a ditch with a spoon.

Wow. The crying from the libtards over tariffs is amazing. What are they going to be like when we get that federal ban on abortions? What will they tell the hores they are surrounded by?

You gonna go pick those fruits and veggies and carve up all those cows and chickens? Mow your own lawn and clean your own house?  Congrats on your second job!

I plant and harvest veggies from my garden, as does my wife.  I butcher much of the meat I shoot, deer, elk, antelope, and geese, primarily and I clean and filet the fish I catch. (Some years I have a guy that processes my elk.  That gets to be a pretty big job and I am getting old.)  I tend my own yard and my wife cleans the house. We are, however, not self-sustaining.  We do buy some meat and produce from the store.  (Less meat than before as we now buy direct from a ranch up in the mountains.)

You do understand there is no silver bullet solution?  I mean, I have repeatedly posted the variety of actions needed to deal with the complex problem of illegal immigration......    that I might support tariffs as a leverage for dealing with a portion of the complex problem.....well, it is odd that you want to pretend its the only solution I guess:dunno:

Well that's what I've been told.  Geek club has told me that Biden could have shut the border any day he wanted to, and trump would do this on his first day.  Guess they were wrong?

Welfies should have to pick the vegetables to earn their "benefits". No pick, no EBT.

As a teenager I baled hay, picked rock, tassled corn, and cut tobacco for minimum wage. All was hot, unpleasant work.  Still, having money in my pocket was worth it.  I did not expect to be given things, I expected I would have to earn the things I wanted.  I think many in this fat, lazy, self-entitled country need to get a work ethic.

Biden could have done something, instead he chose to encourage it and remove all the current EO's that was preventing it

all Biden had to do was nothing and it would have been better

Is Trump going to close the border on Day 1 like he says he is?

I don't know what Trump is going to do, but what I do know, is that it will BE ILLEGAL TO ENTER THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY ON DAY 1

BACKPEDAL

also hate to break this to you but it's illegal to enter country illegally today.  Trump doesn't need to change that.

Hilarious though that after all this talk, you don't think he can seal the border after all.

Well, I think he pulls back on the tariffs in exchange for Mexico actively impeding migration toward the US......that is my opinion.

I predict he will claim this is what happened, without actually getting anything of substance, and that you will go along with the party line on that, either willfully or out of blind ignorance.

Perhaps, I mean, I do not think he is above lying...so what you post is perhaps possible.

But, given that "I" was able to simply outline this here today, might it also be true....that if "I" can see this, and it happens, that he did this purposely, as I am suggesting he is?

It's not like threatening to drop a nuke, after all.

But it is the global economic equivalent of threatening tactical nukes at least, maybe not full on ICBMs but certainly some form of “brinksmanship”, as you say yourself. That should not be undertaken lightly. If you’re going to do it, you need to pick your moments well, and you had damn well better win.

Hope he does

Look at this gross and terrible excuse for a man. Doesn’t care that 2 year olds show up at the border unaccompanied looking for their parents. Doesn’t care that children are being trafficked. Doesnt  care that the blood of our country is being poisoned by the fentanyl crises killing thousands and destroying families. You really ought to take a break and realize what you have become. Tragic.

He wants to talk to Trump, which is the responsible thing to do. I have no idea what you mean by “coming to heel”, because I have no idea what Canada did “wrong” before and what they’re supposed to be doing now. But as I mentioned before, your head is so far up Trump’s ass that you view everything as a “victory”.

Yeah except that undocumented immigration from our southern border actually went UP after that agreement was passed. But facts don’t matter; Trump declared a “win” and you guys bought it. The same thing will happen this time.
