listen2me 23 1,805 Posted December 22, 2024 Not that surprising. The 4 team playoff saw big blowouts as well. The whole model doesnt work in that sport, I said it for years. People clamoring for a playoff to crown a "true champion". Its not needed to watch the top teams blow these teams out. Lets say SMU were to beat PSU. Do they still have a realistic chance of winning the whole thing? No they dont. But that didnt happen anyway. And now we just hear people bltching about who didnt make it, as most could predict. The 4 team playoff was fine.

IMO, the main problem is that the super conferences have gotten so big that teams are sneaking through without playing anyone tough. SMU didn't play Miami or Syracuse, and lost to Clemson. Indiana beat a down Michigan, but got killed by Ohio State and didn't play Penn State. Clemson won their conference, and I like putting in all of the conference winners, so I hope they keep that. Tennessee I think just had the bad fortune of playing what IMO is one of the top two teams in the country (along with Oregon).
Strike 5,048 Posted December 22, 2024 We should expand to 32 teams. That will fix everything.
Death 298 Posted December 22, 2024 I'm fine with it for now because it minimizes the whining from teams that emerge undefeated or with one loss from weaker conferences. Most SEC teams would crush SMU.

jonmx 2,385 Posted December 22, 2024 There were really only 2 to 3 teams who had legit arguments every year about who the best team was. And a few undefeated teams were locked out of any championship game. 4-team playoff would have been big enough. 8-teams would make it fun. But 12 teams we now have three loss teams crying like babies about not getting in. It was too much and expected college kids to play 4 extra games is absurd. Yooge Super Bowl upsets Jets beat Colts Patriots beat Rams Giants beat Patriots Chefs beat Vikings Broncos beat Packers With your logic, they should just award the trophy to the favorite without playing. Hawkeye21 2,310 Posted January 2 I don't understand why so many people complained about the expanded playoffs. The first round of a playoff isn't suppose to be an evenly matched game. That's the recipe for a great upset. It's the reason why people love March Madness. Why does everyone change their tune when it comes to football?

Why does everyone change their tune when it comes to football? Its a pretty wacky system whether you like 12 teams or not. I do not like the Oregon Ducks at all. But hey, your award for earning thr number 1 overall seed? You get to play perhaps thr best team in the nation on a neutral field in your first game! Lol Meanwhile Penn State gets Boise St and SMU as thr 6th seed.

Mike Honcho 4,961 Posted January 3 29 minutes ago, edjr said: teams that get blown out don’t deserve to be in playoffs. seems to be your contention. My contention was 12 teams was too many for Division 1. What I was trying to state; after a full season, 8 teams are more than enough to determine a champion. College football isn't basketball where a Step Curry on Davidson is going to knock out multiple higher ranked teams. Maybe once in awhile in football a #12 loses to a #5, but not often enough to need a 12 team playoff. If that wasn't clear, well that just proves you were right by saying I'm not bright, sometimes I have trouble articulating my thoughts.
