At the Democratic Convention, Kamala Harris said “In many ways Donald Trump is not a serious person.” 

I think that’s true. It was a key reason, one of many, that I didn’t vote for him. But my side lost. I think we’re going to be dealing with 4 years of unseriousness and incompetence at the head of government. I hope it doesn’t hurt us too much.

But is it just a naming thing or actual ownership? Between this and Greenland, I have to wonder if there is something MUCH larger going on that no one is talking about. Not ready to be scared about anything yet, but these moves just seem odd, IMO.

Can Trump overturn Biden’s ban on offshore drilling? ‘It’s not so simple,’ experts say

On Jan. 6, two weeks before Trump’s inauguration, Biden issued an executive order protecting 625 million acres of unleased coastal waters from offshore oil and gas drilling.

Areas included in the ban — which has no expiration date — are the East Coast, much of the West Coast, the eastern portion of the Gulf of Mexico and part of the Northern Bering Sea.

In issuing the ban, Biden cited authority granted to him in the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, which was passed in 1953, during Dwight Eisenhower’s administration.

Section 12a of the act states, “the President of the United States may, from time to time, withdraw from disposition any of the unleased lands of the Outer Continental Shelf.”

This means, Trump, upon assuming office, could very well issue an order reversing the ban, but the matter would likely be resolved in court — which would be a time-consuming process.

If it were subject to litigation, the Biden administration, based on the text of the 1953 law, would have “a very strong argument” that future presidents cannot revoke or modify a withdrawal, Coglianese said.

The Trump administration, in turn, might argue that “either the power to withdraw comes along implicitly with the power to un-withdraw or (that) the whole delegation of authority to withdraw is unconstitutional,” he said.

Would Trump garner a favorable ruling?

“Give him three years in court, he might, but I don’t think so,” Lee said.

This is in part because Trump already tried — and failed — to overturn similar drilling bans during his first term, Lee said.

In 2019, a district judge in Alaska struck down a Trump executive order reversing bans on drilling along the state’s coast, according to CNBC. The bans, put in place by President Barack Obama, also cited the president’s authority in the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.

Greenland makes a lot of military/strategic sense, to help surround Russia (Greenland is 2K miles closer than the US, straight line over the Arctic).  It's also a comparable distance but different angle from China.  I don't know if we'll acquire it, and we already have a Space Force / NORAD base there (Pituffik).

I heard somebody describe what's going on now as the closest thing we've had to a monarch, but only for two more weeks.  The combination of Trump being bombastic, NOT being the actual POTUS, and Biden being basically dead, allow Trump to say and do just about anything he wants, and the world is, as the Lefties here say, "bending the knee."  

But come 1/20, he'll be the POTUS, and he can't be as Trumpian, because he'll actually have authority to do stuff.

We'll see how it plays out.

It was originally called Denali.   We changed the name b/c that’s what we did way back when, but it was still commonly called Denali.   Alaska petitioned the Feds to change the name back to the original.    Not exactly the same thing, dip5hit.

It was Mt. McKinley in my text books and it got changed.  We can do the same for the Gulf of America.  The Mexicans can have the Gulf of California.

Not even close to the same thing. Renaming own mountain isn't anything like renaming a massive international water body through which myriad countries ship goods.

This is just arrogance on Trump's part and not good optics on his part, regardless of whether he is serious.
