Transgenderism is a wild topic for sure. I don't get it at all. Probably never will. But you are advocating that the state override patients, doctors, and families for these medical decisions. You are trying to force people to follow your ideology with the idea that you are protecting them. Nothing is perfect, and likely some under 18(or over 18 for that matter) person that transitioned is going to regret it, and then very likely claim to be a victim. No one under the age of 18 in this country has been "transitioned" and that is not what those who support gender affirming care are calling for.

As someone who has worked in a school setting as a mental health professional for 30 years, let me tell you what has gone on during the past decade or so. 

There is a big difference between transgenderism and the psychological/social contagion that has piggy-backed off of it. What children ages 12-17 want most is a sense of identity. The vast majority of adolescents currently claiming to be transgender or wanting to be transgender are no more transgender than you or me. They're looking for identity and finding that particular one to be affirmed by peers and sometimes adults in the school setting. And, sometimes, not affirmed certainly. But, adults who push children into any sort of actual medical procedure or intervention prior to the age of 18 are guilty of abuse from my vantage point, whether that be a parent, teacher, or school-based professional. When a child turns 18, they should be allowed to do whatever they wish on the issue, but until then, we risk permanent harm to thousands and thousands of children who have nothing more than an adolescent identity crisis meeting up with a current psychological contagion.

Well, there are parents who will subject their children to being cut up....and there are those who refuse to vaccine them. I think in both instance those parents are insane, and hurting their children. I disagree vehemently with both.  There is certainly no shortage of instances where vaccinations are mandated, and the Democrats have long decried those who want to make their own health decisions....

So I think this notion that we should cut up children who are navigating natural paths of self discovery, is likely even worse than denying them vaccines.

If adults want to make those decisions for themselves, fine, have at it....but sweet jesus, can liberals please leave the kids alone??

Good post, and agreed. But per the bolded, I think this has been grossly overblown. How common do you really think this is, and is there any data supporting adults "pushing" kids into gender affirming care? I would think it's the reverse, as kids desiring identity are suddenly pushing it on their parents.

I don't know how I would react if one of my kids suddenly decided their gender was different than at birth. But I know well that it isn't anyone's business outside of my own family and medical providers.

As I have told @jerryskids and others many times, if Republicans simply wanted to pass laws restricting gender surgery to 18 and over I think most Democrats could agree to that. Personally it’s not what I would prefer, because I don’t like the state involved in decisions made between doctors and parents when public health is not a factor. But it’s a compromise I’m willing to accept: restrictions to protect children, leave adults alone. 

But your side isn’t doing this. You are not leaving adults alone. Transgender adults are being persecuted. Excluded from the military. Forced to change passport status. I see it all the time because our counselors, social workers, etc. that are just coming out of graduate school have been indoctrinated with the idea that gender affirming care means that the moment a child expresses a thought about gender, you affirm it and help them find the path towards happiness/fulfillment as it pertains to that part of their life. Add in teachers with strong views aided mostly by leftist propaganda and the "push" is very real. And, I live in freaking Oklahoma. There's no telling how much more common that push is in other parts of the country.

Thanks. Isn't affirmation an important part of counseling, though? Being supportive of students finding their happiness, chasing their bliss, self discovery, etc? That is a far cry from openly advocating for surgical intervention. Is your contention that many of these counselors are jumping right into promoting surgery?

If a bill were proposed in congress that gender surgery is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 (always), AND no government agency will pay for anyone over 18 (meaning prisoners like Harris promoted), including no trans people allowed in "WOMEN's" changing / dressing / locker / bath rooms, 100% of Republican's would sign it.  Willing to bet there wouldn't be 100% on the left.

I will grant the premise that Republican's do not want mentally ill people in the military.
