Once, maybe 18 years ago I did in Durango Colorado. I was stopped by a traffic control officer so that a pride parade could pass down the street upon which I was intending to turn. I had no idea the parade was scheduled as I was visiting that town and had no prior knowledge of the event. I was delayed maybe 15 minutes while the participants passed bye. I had my youngest in the car, 8 years-old at the time. She asked about the display of nudity and fetishistic behavior being exhibited. I said the world contains a wide variety of people and beliefs and that this display was one such example of that variety. Yearly the reservior upon which I kayak routinely closes down for a pride event. I am unclear how my kayaking miles from the beach and pavilions where the event is held would detract from the event, yet my yearly pass is not honored that day. I simply go elsewhere on that particular day. Well handled! To be clear, while I support the (insert cause here) month stuff, that doesn't mean I love every example of it. A few years ago my family and I were vacationing in Chicago at the end of June and had a really unpleasant experience with one guy in a group of obviously drunk homosexuals that were sharing the L train with us. My daughter was only 4 at the time, and this one guy wouldn't stop being a complete douche, swearing and saying explicit things in front of her, even though others in the group were exhorting him to "tone it down." When I politely asked him to chill out with the language in front of my kids, he swore more and ranted about it being the last day of PRIDE, he'll do and say what he wants, he's out and proud, etc. Fock that guy. I may have pressed the issue further but my kids were there and they got off the train soon after. But I don't hold his behavior against the entire group he was with. This stuff is just part of living in a very large, free country.

This stuff is just part of living in a very large, free country. You did well. My first impulse is towards violence as I have a bit of a gift for it. Being inappropriate in the presence of my children, especially when they were young could get a rise out of me. Disregarding and disrespecting a warning from me to knock the behavior off even more so. Any such attempt to dominate me in front of my children would have ended badly for that person, but also, perhaps, for me as I never wanted to pass on my anger and fage to them. You did well. You modeled adult behavior.

It's not just gay people that try to stand out in a crowd. Do you get pissed when a gorgeous woman dresses provocatively? When an old biker wearing ancient leather that stinks like crap has to move his 3 foot beard out of the way to light a Camel? When a young kid wearing ripped jeans and sporting a 15" green mohawk crosses your path? The skinhead with tats all over his neck and face? Where do you draw the line and not be aggrieved?

I don't know about others but i draw that line somewhere which allows the beautiful woman to dress provocatively. I can do without the green mohawks and face tats, but to each their own. i probably have a line against genitals displayed in public view of those under 10 or 12 years old. I also probably have a line against exsposed genitals and anuses touching public seating or handrails and the like.
