Engorgeous George 2,283 Posted Sunday at 09:08 PM I worry that one of Iran's nuclear allies might provide them what they cannot make themselves. Nuclear ambitions are not thwarted simply because they lack the current ability to make their own.
Gepetto 1,353 Posted Sunday at 09:28 PM Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News on Sunday morning that China should ask Iran to keep the shipping lane open because of Asia’s need for oil delivered through the strait. He warned Iran against the action. “If they do that, it will be another terrible mistake. It’s economic suicide for them if they do it. And we retain options to deal with that. But other countries should be looking at that as well. It would hurt other countries’ economies a lot worse than ours. It would be, I think, a massive escalation that would merit a response, not just by us, but from others,” he said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Nuclear ambitions are not thwarted simply because they lack the current abilitaiy to make their own. Google AI - Other nations have provided Iran with nuclear reactors. The United States initially provided Iran with a research reactor under the "Atoms for Peace" program in the 1960s. Later, during the Shah's rule, France and West Germany also signed contracts to supply Iran with power reactors. After the Iranian revolution, Russia completed the construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and continues to supply fuel. China also assisted with the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center. These of course may all be destroyed now. Your concern is legitimate.

The Real timschochet 6,621 Posted Sunday at 11:15 PM I think we can all agree that if Iran closes Hormuz it will be worse for them than for anyone else, so hopefully that will be reason enough for them not to do it. Of course the same reasoning applies to nukes: if Iran had nukes and used them they would be immediately obliterated. So why don’t we want them to have nukes? Because there is a chance, a reasonable chance, that they truly are crazy motherfockers and would use them anyhow. And if that is true they just might close Hormuz anyhow. We will have to wait and find out.

All people of good will should hope for it and I have no problem with Trump calling for it. More power to him. If he attempts to use the American military to bring that about that’s different and I think I would oppose that. But there’s no sign of that yet.

The Real timschochet 6,621 Posted Monday at 12:59 AM So I’ve been thinking about this all day and reading different opinions, and I’ve come to the conclusion that President Trump made the right choice.
