Running back Quinshon Judkins, a second-round pick in April, has been arrested in Florida.

Via the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Judkins is being held for the following charges: “Touch or strike/battery/domestic violence.”

We became aware of the situation via a tweet from Zac Jackson of TheAthletic.com.

Report says "1500 block of W Cypress Creek Rd, Fort Lauderdale, FL"  - looks like a huge strip center, so there could be video but who knows.

Faces a 6 game suspension at min if found guilty.  I'm guessing he's currently negotiating a cash settlement with the victim.  Goodell isn't gonna suspend him without a guilty verdict, unless there's video.

Odds are the victim won't cooperate, charges dropped, no suspension.  Still, way to go Browns.

or minimal suspension.

if there is a video from the mall, the league could conceivably suspend him anyways.

either way.  you dont want to be suspended during your rookie season.  thats the time when you learn the most.   not a good start.

The idiot doesn't even have a contract yet so he can't pay her off to drop all charges. This loser just solidified that he will be a complete bust. The Browns sure can pick 'em.

Maybe - but these days with all of the NIL payments a lot of the college stars have plenty of money.  There used to be a prevailing school of thought in the NFL to not sign rookie contracts until just before camp becuase giving a young kid a lot of money and a whole summer of idle time was just asking for trouble.

Unfortunately he's a millionaire from his NIL money. Still an idiot though

From what I've read, Judkins made $1.1M in NIL money.  It's not chump change, but it's not as much as you'd think.  After taxes and other bs fees (agent/whatever), what's he seeing, $400k over 3 years.  Again, it's good money, but it's not actual wealth.  That aside, I'll hold judgement.  When it comes to athletes and celebrities, I give them a little more latitude in these areas because I think they're targets for certain women.  I believe the young man isn't married, so if it's "domestic violence", I can see a scenario where a girlfriend getting upset that her gravy train might be pulling out of the station and possibly be using this as a way to keep him.

Agreed. Even if he's innocent, still shows bad judgement hanging with scum. Shockingly the arrest occurred at 9 am. Who has domestic violence at that hour? Wouldn't think he or the "victim" were drinking that early.

I read that the arrest happen after she reported it the next day.

I don't know if it definitively shows bad judgement.  It could be that he realized that the woman he was dating wasn't who he thought she was.  I'd say he would be more naïve, if this is the case.  As you point out, the 9 am thing is a key part of why I'm waiting to make a call one way or the other.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/police-report-alleged-victim-contends-quinshon-judkins-punched-her-in-the-mouth-chin-area

Quote

Based on the report, as posted by NFL Media, the alleged victim contends that, five days earlier, Judkins “punched her in the mouth/chin area with a closed fist,” and that he later “struck her additional times in the left arm and thigh.”

She told police that she didn’t call 911 because she didn’t want to hurt his career. She decided to make the report on July 12 “after speaking with family & friends and coming to the realization something needed to be done.”

Per the police report, the alleged victim “still had visible bruising on her chin area” on July 12. She had a photograph from July 8, in which (per the report) the “bruising was clearly evident.”

Translation-you need to get compensated for taking a shot to the chin from a famous/wealthy athlete.

This explains the unusual 9 am arrest.  The pimp hand is always strongest just after midnight.

She could be just as bad, if not worse, but in any case, this sort of thing is so common with athletes now, at best he's victim of his own ignorance. I guess we were all young once though, some learn the hard way

True. It sounds fishy but Police did say that bruising is consistent with her statement. So thats probably not good for Judkins. I imagine that he's pretty lawyered up by now.

he would have been lawyered up before the media knew about it I'm pretty sure.    Pretty sure his agent got involved real quick to make sure his client stayed as clean as possible.    if he doesnt get paid the agent doesnt get paid and I'm sure that the agent is earning his salary with this kid.

as for the 9AM thing.   I have a family member who used to drink.  he was fine while drinking but when he stopped drinking he would get very moody and sometimes downright nasty.   for some it happens when they are drinking.  for others they get nasty just as the hangover is about to kick in.     if they partied til the sun comes up (not unheard of at that age) 9AM sounds like exactly the time when this sort of incident would occur.

I am not saying thats the way it went down, all I'm saying is 9AM isnt as unreasonable a time for this as you would think.

Quote

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that Judkins, who has not yet signed, will not report to training camp on Friday.

And while the obvious barrier could be regarded as the effort to get a fully-guaranteed contract as the fourth pick in round two. But it’s about more than how much of the contract will be fully guaranteed.

“He’s focusing more on his legal matter right now and so are the Browns,” Cabot said.

Jerome Ford/Dylan Sampson moving on up the draft board.

Information I like to hear.  Makes him a better option in my keeper league for a future investment.

This makes me feel a little better about my last pick in the July mock.  😂

Don't blame you.  Though, I'm more comfortable about it in keeper/dynasty leagues than re-draft.  I mean, he's still not signed yet and they don't really need to sign him until some time before the next draft.  If you draft him in a keeper or dynasty league, you have him no matter what team he's on.

Sucks this is still unsettled.  He looks hands down like he'd be the best offensive player on his team and could become a stud with an offense built around him.  Dylan Sampson looks small, like a gadget player.  Also not real interested in investing much on Jerome Ford, as you know what you get with him.

I feel like he could really be a steal and help a fantasy team after his legal situation gets settled.  Assuming him and the Browns will come to terms.

I read an article from a couple days ago that says he's not signed because the team thinks he'll be suspended and they don't want to offer him guaranteed money until things are settled. And he wants guaranteed money.

Yeah, I think that's what's hanging out there, but the real world situation has been taken care of... I think.  I'm ok with with drafting the dude real late.  If he gets suspended and sucks, meh, the guy I could take there might suck too.  lol  At least there's a chance he's good.

he just got a domestic violence charge.  I suspect he should forfeit the guaranteed money.   remember all the guaranteed money they gave to a certain QB a couple years ago.   Not smart.

either way, I am assuming if hes not signed hes not in camp.

all this likely means hes gonna be behind in terms of picking up the offense.  That cant be good for early season production.

as a fantasy drafter I dont know that I spend anything other than a last round pick to get him.    if someone else wants to spend an earlier pick and assume that risk, they can have him.

https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/cleveland-browns/quinshon-judkins-grim-update-contract-dispute/

The regular season is quickly approaching but Cleveland Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins is still not with the team.

Judkins, a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, was arrested on July 12 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from an alleged incident involving his girlfriend.

Earlier this month, prosecutors announced Judkins would not face charges.

“This incident was not captured on any video surveillance,” the decline memorandum read. “There are no independent witnesses to the incident. Although the victim had photos showing injuries sustained, there were also videos in that same time frame where no injuries were observed to the victim. Additionally, the victim’s injuries depicted in the photos could be explained by either account of the incident.

“Finally, there was a delayed report of the incident. The delay is problematic as the victim was alone on numerous occasions without the Defendant, had the ability and resources to make the report without his knowledge, but chose not to do so. For the reasons set forth above, there is no reasonable likelihood of conviction and this case is being declined.”

Browns Have No Update on Quinshon Judkins

While Judkins is in the clear legally, there’s still a chance that the NFL could suspend the former Ohio State standout. The investigation by the league remains open and Judkins remains unsigned. When he could join the Browns remains firmly in the air.

“There’s not much that I have an update on in terms of (Quinshon),” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said on Saturday during an in-game interview. “We’ll take that day by day and manage the situation appropriately.”

Part of the issue may stem from Judkins’ contract situation. He held out initially in pursuit of a fully guaranteed deal, similar to other high second-round picks. But his off-field troubles, combined with missing training camp and the preseason, have hurt his standing.

The Browns may also be waiting to see if the league delivers a punishment before officially signing Judkins.

Browns Searching for Help at Running Back

The Browns drafted Judkins No. 36 overall with the intention of making him their bell-cow back following the departure of Nick Chubb.

“He’s a very well-rounded back. We’ve been spoiled the past couple years with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, and we feel like Quinshon is very much in that mold, in terms of skill set,” Berry said after drafting Judkins. “Not necessarily saying that he’s going to develop into one of those players but we think he can be a bellcow runner that can really carry the load for us.”

The uncertainty with Judkins has led to Cleveland checking out what’s available on the running back market, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

Jerome Ford isn't a roadblock to a manly beast.  No guarantee Judkins is that, but he seems to have a higher ceiling than anyone in front of him.
