Of course it’s legal. The voters of California are going to decide whether or not to change the rules. If they decide to do so it’s perfectly legal. Texas refuses to let their voters decide.

And as I mentioned Texas is violating the Voters Rights Act as traditionally understood,

Yet you have no problem with CA violating the 2A as traditionally understood.

Hypocrite much?

ETA: we already voted on it. Now he wants to change it. Like he always does. Ignore the will of the voters.

Weird how that works.  It's almost as if Hypocrisy is a plank in the liberal platform.

How could anyone support the political elites removing the votes of constituents?  Maga has completely lost their minds.  You guys are sheep.

Their votes don't count now.

This is like saying that Russians get to vote so there is no problem.

Of course tardcore defends this.  He'll defend anything trump does.  Cover up child trafficking, give money to the elites, corruption, he loves all of it now.  Used to care about the little guy, not anymore.

It's hard to tell with you, but you are just playing stupid here.  Your previous defense of this was that the Democrats did this in Northeast states.  Now you're trying the "it's not a big deal" defense.  However it is a big deal as the attempt is to keep the house republican to avoid impeachment.

I haven’t defended it. I’m just pointing out that unlike you and Tim have claimed,  no one is loosing their right to vote or have it not counted. Fact. So stop lying.

I would rather all the gerrymandering be unwound, but given that is not likely I get why Republicans see their best move being to copy Democrats and seek to offset their gerrymandering.

National poll: Majority of Democrats back California’s effort to counter Texas despite claims of hating gerrymandering

Democratic voters loathe partisan redistricting, but support California doing it to counter Texas, according to a new national poll on Gavin Newsom’s high-stakes gerrymander.

The POLITICO-UC Berkeley Citrin Center survey conducted by TrueDot found that 70 percent of Democrats believe gerrymandering is “never acceptable.” But a strong majority of Democratic voters across the country think California Democrats should “fight back” and create more favorable House districts if Texas Republicans do, embracing the exact idea likely to go before California voters.

“The real divide isn’t about whether it’s fair,” said Jon Cohen, founder and CEO of TrueDot. “The real divide is whether to fight fire with fire or hold the line on principle.”

Democrats tried to stop gerrymandering twice the last 5 years.  Republicans opposed. Here we are.

How are people’s right to vote being denied? And if they are, damn near every blue state is guilty. But they aren’t. They are manipulating the process. Say what it is, no need to lie.

2024: me and people in my district vote to elect a Democrat.

2026: the same people vote for a Democrat but since more Republicans were added, they now lose.  My vote doesn't count anymore.

Call it whatever you want, it's wrong

It’s the system. And I never defended it. I don’t like it either. Gerrymandering should only happen when there is a shift in population. That’s it. And just because your candidate loses that doesn’t mean your vote didn’t count. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Now in the case of voter fraud, that does render some people’s votes meaningless. But you don’t seem concerned about that. Chump.

The only black Republicans in the House all represent majority white districts. There are no black Republicans representing majority black districts. Not from Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, NY, CA, MO. None. Seems like ALL the black people suddenly live in blue states. Meanwhile, majority Hispanic districts, which have recently started swinging red, have numerous Republican representatives, including newly created districts in TX.

What a coincidence!

You're not one of the political junkie wackadoodles like many of us. What do you think about this?

I guess I don't mind if it ends up like it probably will, but why not just do it after the 2030 census like it's scheduled to be done.

I've seen the inside baseball of this happen when I did work in politics after the 2010 census.   There's a lot of back and forth trading as elected officials try to get what they want from redistricting.   The process in general feels icky, but how else is it supposed to get done?

The reality is at best missouri guess from 6-2 to 7-1 as the district with KC in it now comes into play for the GOP.  That's not a huge shift but I guess with tight margins it matters.

I guess I liked when the democrats gave the middle class something to vote for, even though I worked on the gop side of things.   I got along with democrats and I think in general government functions better when sides have to work together and come together on issues.   Even if we still worked to kick their ass in elections.

In Missouri i don't know that there's a majority of black voters in any of our congressional districts, even STL.  But there is a black member of congress who represents STL :dunno:

Sure, but they're a democrat. That's my point. There are a lot of black people in St. Louis and KC, many of which are presumably (I don't know for sure) living in close proximity to each other. But yet, no majority black districts.

Thanks for your response, and sorry to drag you into a conversation you probably would rather avoid, being a decent human being and all. 😀
