You're not doing well here, sweetie. Best log off and regroup. I'll be back tomorrow.

Toodles!

Still didn't post that most people on snap live out of reach of grocery stores.  Hint... most people live in cities.  Grocery stores are everywhere in cities.

It says you have to meet one of the three to be eligible and I posted the 1 of the three that I found interesting.  What requirement did I miss?

Generally, you may be eligible for CalFresh benefits if you:

Are a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident
Are an immigrant that meets certain criteria

Trafficking and Crime Victim Assistance Program (TCVAP)

The Trafficking and Crime Victim Assistance Program (TCVAP) provides cash aid, food assistance, employment services, and health care assistance to eligible non-citizen victims of human trafficking who have applied or intend to apply for a T-Visa and victims of domestic violence and other serious crimes who have applied for a U-Visa.

T-Visa, U-Visa non-citizens, and Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA) self-petitioners are not required to provide a Social Security Number to apply for CalFresh benefits. However, they must meet other CalFresh eligibility requirements, such as income.

Customers are strongly encouraged to disclose their immigration status on the application or during their interview with the eligibility staff to avoid possible delays or erroneous denials of their application.
You can apply online at https://benefitscal.com/, over the phone at (866) 613-3777, or in person at your local DPSS District Office.

Refugees

Refugees are potentially eligible to federal CalFresh benefits.  However, they must meet other CalFresh program’s eligibility requirements, such as income requirement.  Refugees are typically granted this status before coming to the U.S. when temporarily residing in another country. “Applying” for or pending refugee status differs from being granted as a refugee. Refugee status must be granted to be eligible for federal CalFresh.

You can apply for CalFresh benefits online at https://benefitscal.com/, over the phone at (866) 613-3777, or in person at your local DPSS District Office.

Day four of Americans held captive in their own country, this government sucks.

But supported by liberal voters    Shame

If we indeed have another election, that we can have a real American hero to vote for, but dictator trump, and all you trump supporters might not allow that, and he’s supported by foolish voters like you

Define “everywhere”?

Here’s some data that says the median distance to a SNAP supermarket for urban households is 0.6 miles.   That means there are plenty of households over 1 mile, and even 0.6 miles is not really easy to access if they don’t have a car.

Yes it is.

Worry about why all the white women and their children are getting SNAP. Why are your eyes so concerned with black women’s shopping carts when there are plenty of white women to be found for you to check off what food they’re buying. Don’t you have a job? Don’t you have a family? Is it really keeping you up at night that a woman is buying cereal and chips for her kids? Don’t you have leaves to rake or some garbage to take out? You’re really sitting behind your computer thinking about other people’s grocery baskets. Monitor the majority white women’s carts if you’re so concerned as they’re getting your tax dollars the most.

Here is what most black are really doing, working:

I’m simply calling out members here who post FAKE AI VIDEOS.

They happen to be videos of black women. Why are FFT Geeks posting fake videos here??? That’s racist rage bait.

Ask others why they relentlessly post fake videos of black women. I’m not racist for calling them out for it but you certainly are for finding fault in me but not them.

Do you even know what median is?  It means exactly half of snap recipients are under 0.6 miles from a grocery store.  And that also means the vast majority are under a mile away as I said without even having to look it up since it's common sense.  In other words, even by the stupid definition of food desert, most snap recipients don't even fall in that category.  What? y'all need the grocery store to be right on top of their house?

(Hint: That's why HauckTua is trying to claim .6 miles is too far now too).

I’m not saying they’re “out of reach,” just that I don’t think it’s as easy to get to them as you’re implying by saying “grocery stores are everywhere in cities!”

This is a dumb argument from both sides. You're too hung up on distances from your own perspective.

For years I lived in a very remote, mountainous area of NorCal. The closest GENERAL store was 6 miles away from my home. The vast majority of the customers lived further than that. If you didn't have a functioning vehicle, you were SOL. The clinic I worked for did outreach, and I hauled a van of folks 1.5 hours to the nearest SUPERMARKETS. To a person, they were all on food assistance and did not have a vehicle reliable enough to consistently make those trips. This was an overwhelmingly white, poor, conservative populace. Without the clinic and our outreach, they would have struggled to eat. Most rural Americans live significantly further from a grocery store than one mile. If they're on food assistance, they likely aren't driving reliable late model vehicles. Easy math.

The 0.6 was only for urban SNAP recipients.  For rural recipients the same report said the median distance was between 3-4 miles.  Can’t find it now but I believe I read recently that about 75% of SNAP recipients live in urban areas (however the share of total residents that are on SNAP is higher in rural areas).

It is classic brain dead liberal message board behavior.

They dont even understand how the discussion started. Then they just post words and pretend they all know what they are talking about. High fives all around woohoo, yay team liberal we are so smart.

"Boom" lol. My god it is so sad to watch them.

These idiots are literally pretending that ebt fatties are a thing because they cant get to a grocery store.

All the while ignoring that 80% of SNAP funds are spent at full service locations.

If they ever paid attention they would see when mama is walking up and down the aisles filling two carts at the grocery store, they arent filled with vegetables and other healthy foods.

No one cares about your anecdotal nonsense and no one should.  We should be making billion dollar decisions on facts and data.  Not because Joe the Plumber has to drive six miles from his mountain getaway to the store.  We don't make billion dollar decisions because you claim you had to drive a van full of people 90 minutes.

Sure. Same as we shouldn't be throwing the baby out with the bathwater like what consistently occurs under this admin. Just because there is a small % of folks receiving benefits that shouldn't be doesn't mean we need to demolish the whole system with no regard to the fallout and no thought as to what comes next.

And to be clear, this was not the west coast version of the Hamptons. We weren't near Tahoe. These were more like Ozarks west coast, not hoity-toity mountain getaways filled with rich yuppies. It was not prosperous. Those people (mostly) needed the benefits. And they were white Republicans almost exclusively.

Again.  Your anecdote doesn't matter.  We make nation nal policy decisions on statistics and data.  Some rural mountain town shouldn't drive national policy.

Again. I agreed with you. My anecdote is simply that. But it is closer first hand experience with that population than the vast majority of those pissing and moaning over giving out benefits will ever experience. I notice you ignored the rest of my post. Just feeling argumentative today?

The rest of your post wasn't directly related to the sub-thread about fatties on SNAP, so I didn't address it.

To recap:

  1. Someone made some joke about there are too many fatties on SNAP and losing some food will be good for them
  2. One of the bigger dummies here starts talking about they're only fat cuz food deserts
  3. Things as usual fall along Blue and Red Team lines as we all laugh at the dummy for buying the BS that the average poor fatty on SNAP can't get to a grocery store
  4. Per usual, the dummy felt defensive and then tried to reframe the discussion as people laughing saying there are 0 SNAP recipients with reduced access to healthy food.  The classic I'll say you're saying something extreme so I have a shot in hell of defending this stupid thing I said.
  5. I point out that most SNAP recipients live in cities and cities have easily accessible grocery stores
  6. HauckTua comes in with what he thinks is the gotcha of a lifetime saying 50% of people are within 0.6 miles of a grocery store.  But even he knows that doesn't help his team, so he tries to reframe and say getting to a location half a mile away is hard too.  Dummy responds with "Boom" for some reason.
  7. Then I suspect you picked up the sub-thread about 75% in and thought the argument was as dummy originally tried to reframe it as there are 0 people on SNAP that have difficult access to grocery stores.

My larger point is that in the larger context of policy decisions (i.e., should SNAP recipients be required to buy healthy food), you go by the majority and not the outliers when making policy decisions.

In the context of this thread, my point is that the vast majority of fatties you would see on a daily basis have plenty of access to grocery stores even though everyone probably knows some poor person that doesn't have a car or whatever that lives in the mountains, and then I have a bonus point that the concept of a food desert when there is a grocery store a mile away is stupid if you have any kind of common sense.

Wokies are once again trying to endorse bad decisions out of empathy for people who don't need it.  You can laugh at the 80% of fatties on SNAP that live less than a mile from a grocery store, and also feel bad for the 2% of fatties on SNAP who are legitimately forced to buy all their food from the KWIK-E-MART.

I was not trying to get a gotcha or say that being 0.6 miles from a grocery store is why people are fat.    Simply sharing data and pointing out that it’s not easy to go grocery store if you live over 0.6 miles away without a car.

I would certainly be on board with limiting some of the items that can be purchased with SNAP.  Getting off topic a bit but in a previous thread about this I might just disagree on which items should be allowed (I think Diet Soda for example should be).
