When I moved years ago my buddy who worked for a milk distributor gave me 6 hard plastic milk containers.

Now I take 2 of them when I shop and pack them myself.  So much easier carrying putting in my vehicle and carrying in the house.

I keep a couple of big banana boxes in my garage and throw them in the truck when I go shopping. When they fall apart, I get new ones from Costco. They work great.

Anybody here tried an omakase meal?

This is a Japanese pre-fix meal, around 12-15 small courses of mostly extremely fresh and delicious sushi. It usually costs around $150-$200 and can be simply amazing. There are special restaurants that offer this- there’s only a handful in Southern California. I’ve now tried it twice and I plan on going again (though not often; it’s really pricey.) An incredible dining experience.

Even as a response to @seafoam1 this is in really poor taste.

Politics aside (which it will always be from me in this thread) I wish Biden or Trump or any President would put a maximum, space program like effort into this issue. My mother and brother and best friend died of it. This past month I learned another close friend has prostate cancer and my cousin has breast cancer. I’m sure I’m not rare; everyone reading this has close friends and family who have died or suffered greatly from this. I’m 60 years old and I know that any day, any month I could be told I have some form of it; the odds are decent no matter what I try to do to stay healthy.

So please let’s try to refrain from calling anyone around here or elsewhere a cancer.

Dude, it’s a joke…. I know it will get seafoam’s panties in a bunch…. Plus, I have had many family members and relatives die from this terrible disease…

I know. We all have. Guess I’m just sensitive to joking about this right now. All good.

The Lakers continue to play well without LeBron. The addition of Deandre Ayton may turn out to be the missing piece they needed. I think this Lakers team can compete for a championship.

If you think Ayton is the missing piece, you must have been missing a lazy player with zero basketball IQ.

I don't think I've done it.  We almost did it at Nobu in NYC when we visited our daughter in September.  I think it was $225 each, we probably should have done it since we were celebrating my 5 year cancer survival.  I just looked and there are some places near me that offer it.  Next celebration, we'll consider it.

Hes a different player this year. At least so far. Not the guy that was advertised.

Congrats on the cancer fight!

For a while he was getting tolerable, but Seafoam is making a strong run at Most Insufferable poster of the year.

Coming through in the clutch is the mark of a true champion.

It's hard to prove a negative.  I just had in my mind that there was a window where he posted relevant comments and responses.

He's getting stiff competition from weepaws tho.  Weepaws also was OK for a while, mostly sticking to posting in his religious thread (never a link of course, but at least he was contained).  Now he is bouncing into threads typing gibberish which is anti-Trump, but the funny thing is he was too much of a little girl to actually vote in 2024, so his posts just come off as a whiny biotch.  :(

Finished Crooks by Lou Berney, now on Elmore Leonard. Never read him, been meaning to for a long time. Supposed to be the best crime fiction writer ever. I went on the internet and looked for a list of his 10 best novels which I will read in random order. First one up is called Killshot.

I don’t remember that one. City Primeval, Rum Punch, and Maximum Bob are all good ones. Great writer.

He isn't or rather wasn't IMO. I found his books to be really hit or miss and the reason for that is he didn't use an outline and literally made it up as he went along and wrote each chapter not knowing himself what would happen next or how it was going to end (and many of the books read like it).

A quote from Leonard on his approach:

"To know too much at the start takes the pleasure out of discovering what the book is about"

I read Killshot and IIRC it was one of the few of his that I liked.

Christie is a mystery writer. A little different. Leonard is a suspense writer-there is little mystery, more thrills. I enjoy writers like Christie but prefer suspense.

As someone told me years ago, Christie wears on you after awhile.

Her books have too many characters and are slow moving, which is true of many British writers.

Her novels are also very formulistic in that there is intentional misdirection to the point that the murderer is always one you don't suspect and that you have dismissed because they lacked either motive, means or opportunity.
