Just to give you an idea, I think Citizen Kane is a tremendous movie. One of the best. Cause I'm old and stuff Citizen Kane is great, though I consider it more an incredible technical achievement than a riveting film (kinda like 2001). Casablanca will blow you away. Top 5 all time for me. The dialog is so good you've already heard practically every line in it already. And Seven Samurai introduces a well worn template but Akira Kurosawa is probably one of the ten greatest filmmakers ever, and he did it first. Rashomon is another great one that's been cribbed a million times in other films.

I've made the argument that Kane is like someone running the 4 minute mile when people were wondering if the 4:30 would ever be broken. It was just so far ahead of it's time, but today it's hard to appreciate it for it's achievement when we see the 4 minute mile done by HS kids today.

I had the fortune of seeing it in a film and media class, where the instructor held our hands (figuratively! this is not a pedo batsignal for peefoam or MO) through viewing and pointed out the brilliant technical innovations. Otherwise my appreciation for it wouldn't be anywhere near what it is.
