US Bombs Nigeria

Recommended Posts

I hope it’s true that the United States plans to move into Nigeria. I hope American businesses open in Nigeria and change the landscape to make it more hospitable for Americans to live and work there.
Unfortunately, the truth is that this is likely just the means to stop Ibrahim Traoré.

It’s so fun to read and make fun of AI.

I recall you posted stuff from AI to “prove” a point before, but now you seem to realize it doesn’t always agree with you so it’s off your friends list I guess.

AI is bad for your brain and bad for the environment. That’s why I never use it.

I have indeed used AI before.  It's a useful tool.  It provides the links from which it sourced its answer.  In this case the links included Al Jazeera, PBS, and CNN, all with some version of "it's nuanced!"

If instead the links are from a variety of sources, or if the summary isn't particularly politically biased, it's easier to just use it.

HTH with your whataboutism.

PBS CNN and Al Jazeera aren’t a “variety” of sources to you because none of them are owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Also, you could just look at the sources, skip the AI, and often you can see what methods they used for the reporting. So… your shortcut eliminates some of the useful information from ever reaching your eyes.

I know to you that such centrist sources should be sufficient, but I'm more discerning.

Enough of your red herring.  Tell me how you disagree with my summary.

Nothing represents the teachings of Jesus better than bombing people on his birthday.

Trump proved he’s not a real Christian, and everybody cheering for him proves the same about themselves.

The party that used to claim it was based on Christian values has proven once and for all that they care nothing about those values.

Right. That's why those of us who voted for Trump, especially those of us who have kids, told people like you that the weird tranny movement involving kids was insane and way out of line.

Yes we have no values, yet for some reason we are really against mutilating children, especially when someone for some reason feels a strong urge to put the idea in our own kids heads that changing their gender is not only possible, but it is freeing. Odd how our lack of values would make an exception for that.

Oh well carry on with whatever sht you were making up in your head to make yourself feel better about Trump winning despite how hard you voted against him.

I don’t care that the strike happened on Christmas. I just think it’s funny that MAGA is 100% on board with it. Took less than a year for the Murica First crowd to go full neocon. 🤡

What happened to America First?  Not intervening in foreign conflicts that don’t involve us?  Oh right, there’s some oil we can get so it’s okay.

Just an FYI, the dude you're quoting called you dumb for whining like a little bltch that this happened on Christmas.

Is it still amazing?

FWIW, I've never been a Murka-only isolationist.  I happily support the destruction of Hamas and Boko Haram, because I realize that there is evil in the world, and that the world is a better place without that evil.

Honestly I probably wouldn’t mind it if we just came out and said it (same with Venezuela), and not pretending we actually care about stopping drugs or protecting people in Nigeria.

I wasn’t calling you out specifically.

There’s always going to be evil in the world. Obviously the strikes in Venezuela and now Nigeria aren’t for any legitimate national defense reason. MAGA goes along with it because defending everything Daddy does is the only core principle.

You didn’t really give much of a summary. Seemed like you were mainly making fun of the idea that “it’s nuanced.” Which I agree is pretty silly too. That’s AI for you.

I’ve been loosely following the Boko Haram story for a decade. Long story short: massive corruption in Nigeria robbed its military of its one-time might. This gave power-hungry people an opening; they formed Boko Haram. They target boys to train as soldiers and girls as rape victims, and they don’t really care about what religion they are. In fact, their extremist sect (if you can call it that) of Islam believes people that follow all other versions of Islam are infidels too.

The Muslim vs Christian thing is very easily disproven if you simply look at recent history. At the peak of the high-profile terrorism of Boko Haram, a Muslim president was elected on promises of taking them out. And he did weaken them considerably. Most people in Nigeria, regardless of their religion, want Boko Haram gone. And Boko Haram targets people regardless of their religion. Kind of weird for AI to call that “‘nuanced.”

Right now the group is weaker than before, broken up into multiple factions, but still dangerous. Personally, I don’t think US involvement is going to help. I’m pretty certain we aren’t going to send troops on the ground. I thought we learned by now that just dropping a few bombs here and there doesn’t really get it done against these types of insurgents. It’s going to be up to Nigeria’s Army and the military of its neighbors to solve this IMO. I guarantee dropping a few bombs on Jesus’ birthday definitely didn’t move the needle against Boko Haram. And claiming this war is only to protect Christians is a propaganda gift to the terrorists.

Here’s a far better history of the terrorists than what I just posted:

Well you can't say, "we're going to manufacture a reason to engage in some military skirmishes with you in an effort to establish leverage we will then use to make deals to obtain your oil and rare earth minerals."  You have to make up some BS excuse.

From November.

The US this year has attacked in or against the following nations:

Iran

Iraq

Syria

Somalia

Yemen

Nigeria

Variously flagged ships in the Caribbean & Pacific, including Venezuela.

The Nigerian government’s statement does not specify protecting Christians alone as the goal of this mission. The attack that prompted this response was against people of all backgrounds.

The US had a large airbase in Niger, to the north of Nigeria, but it was abandoned this year & quickly occupied by the Russians. It took considerable investment & diplomatic effort by the US to establish that base but it was quickly abandoned. This is similar to what happened in Syria, Yemen & Afghanistan during Trump1. Currently the US has *no appointed ambassadors on the continent of Africa.

God bless our troops.

Boko haram bombed a mosque on Christmas eve.  I guess they were trying to get a Christian or two who accidentally walked into the mosque.

People who actually know what’s happening in Nigeria:

Quote

Aneliese Bernard, a former State Department adviser who now runs a private consulting firm working in West Africa, said the part of northwest Nigeria where the strikes took place is primarily affected by violence from bandits, who work with the Islamic State-Sahel Province and al-Qaeda affiliate Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM).

Bernard, who has worked extensively in neighboring Benin, said evidence to support a specific Islamic State cell in that area is “dubious at best.”

“This feels incredibly reactionary, and it doesn’t feel like it will do anything,” she said of the strikes. “There is very little evidence that targeted airstrikes reduce armed group activity.”

To MAGA. Great job electing a guy who dropped bombs on Christmas Day for no good reason.

He cut funds to USAID which used to help prevent the conditions that help extremists.

The rest of America is ready for MAGA voters to demand their GOP representatives impeach this guy. And after they do get rid of him, we’d also appreciate an apology for supporting him.
