Jeb Bush for president...

Recommended Posts

Would never happen. He is a former President. They have such huge egos, they would never take a demotion. Much like a CEO of a major corp.

You are looking at it as if he is a former president with no ties to the current one. Thats simply not the case. Bill is off into being a paid speaker and he is done with his aims at president. There is no power problem. By being sec of state he even further cements the family name in american minds and sets up chelsea as a virtual shoe is when she decides to run.BOTH parents president and sec of states? They will bill themselves as this generations camalot.

I agree with NorthernVike :shocking:

You don't go backwards. Secretary of State to President is fine. The inverse is not.

It might be different if it was something not directly related (chairman of joint Chiefs of staff or Secretary General of UN, for example), but to go from head of the cabinet to merely serving on the cabinet is a non-starter I would think.

Federal law prohibits a POTUS from appointing an immediate family member to Cabinet positions.

I'm shocked Wormy doesn't know this. :D

Can you link this -- not saying it isn't right as I don;t know but I think I have heard several times Bill might be SOS on different news programs

Under 5 U.S.C. § 3110, federal officials are prohibited from appointing their immediate family members to certain governmental positions, including those in the Cabinet. Passed in 1967, this law was a congressional response in delayed dismay about John F. Kennedy's appointment of his brother Robert F. Kennedy to the office of the Attorney General.

Wormy learns something new about the law everyday. Too bad it comes from a low-rent FFB messageboard. :(

I dunno. Sec of State sets foreign policy. It's a better gig than John Quincy Adams who returned to the House of Representatives.

You are acting like Bill was president the first time when we really know she was really in charge.

John Quincy Adams also worked as a lawyer after his presidency, which clinton can't either.

That would be the best campaign slogan she could come up with.

One real downside to a Clinton vs. Bush campaign would be that Hillary could point to the last presidency for Clinton, vs. the last presidency for Bush. That would be a sound bite people would likely latch on to.

Distancing himself from his brother:

As former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida gears up for a possible campaign for the presidency, he is seen as the brother of the last Republican to live in the White House and therefore, in some ways, the second coming of George W. Bush. But the reality is the Bush brothers are not especially close.

While loving and supportive of each other, the two brothers do not talk that often, according to family intimates. Seven years apart in age, they travel in different circles and have distinct political networks. The older brother has been a vocal advocate of a Jeb Bush campaign but, like everyone else, reads tea leaves about whether he will run. Indeed, before Jeb Bush announced that he would explore a campaign, the former president confided to associates privately, I may be the last one to know.

They are family but from everything I have read not close at all just like your qoute says ... Jeb was the Golden Boy and W. the red headed step child. W. rode his last name all the way to the white house and then burned the name! Jeb is alot like his father and has that Hispanic connection as well as the likely hood of choosing Rubio as his Running mate ... for that reason I think he has a better chance then anyone to beat Hillary.

PLease Mitt don't run -- you are too much of a nice guy to win an election.

I'm not sure a "nice guy" calls half of the country worthless leaches who can never be helped. But at any rate, I agree that the Republicans should not want him running again.

Florida did below average during Jeb Bush's tenure on the one issue I care most about, debt.

Florida's debt grew 77% from 1999 to 2007, which was 32nd worst during that time period. There should be no way any fiscal conservative should support Bush.

Here are the raw numbers I put together myself from these links, all numbers in billions of dollars.

Unfortunately, that isn't what the nice guys said. And he was right. A large number of people collecting entitlements will keep voting for them.

Lizzy Warren, the fake Indian who lied to scam the affirmative action rules, and made 300k a year to lecture for 2 hours. You know the regular lady who has the middle class back.

Jeb Bush (or any Republican running) has a real opportunity to get my vote. The minute he starts pandering to the Tea Party fockchops, that's it for me. I want reasoned principles and ideas, not a competition to see who's the most fiscally and socially conservative.

Yeah, cuz this country won't need any fiscal responsibility once Obama runs up $10 Trillion in debt.

No, what we really need is old white guys worrying about sharia law in Detroit, whether Obama's kids listen to Beyonce, and talking about God in science class.

The debt means nothing to you. You are such a good little libtard lemming.

I'm ready to hear Republican ideas, just like I've always been. Ideas trump right wing conservative rhetoric.

Like I said in my post.

None of those things has anything to do with the duties of a POTUS. They are just left wing rhetoric from a radical lefty lemming.
