Giants House Cleaning

Recommended Posts

From ESPN...

The New York Giants cleaned house on Monday, firing head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese in the midst of a 2-10 season.

McAdoo told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that he was out after two seasons on the job, while sources confirmed the Reese firing.

Reese has been with the Giants in various roles since 1994, serving as general manager since 2007.

Hopefully for the Giants, they'll select a GM that knows how to build an offensive line. Especially if they're drafting Darnold.

They were just trying to appease the BQBM crowd and only really wanted to see what Davis Webb could do. They had to give Smith a token start first. It all blew up in their face.

You can only hope....

It seems to be the biggest area of need.

it will take more than a year to rebuild the whole line...

Perhaps if they sign someone and draft someone, they can rebuild one side of the line in a hurry.

Please get Eli back so my Sterling Shepard is not relevant.

It's still going to be a very attractive job.

In addition to just the obvious of being in NY, they've got a good group of strong veteran leaders (especially on defense), they'll get back OBJ, they have a huge young weapon in Engram, and they'll have a high pick in a draft "loaded" with potential franchise QBs.

They have the recipe in place at least for a very quick turnaround.

There is no leadership on that defense. JPP is anything but. The guy didn't bother to show up this year.

Is Eli the starting QB for them next year?

I think a lot could be attributed to the coaches losing the players, and that a newer and better staff could pull back into the fold a lot of these guys.

In a vacuum at least, guys like JPP, Vernon, Jenkins, DRC, Harrison all have the ability to lead teammates in the right environment, and add that to promising young guys in Collins, Apple, Kennard and Thompson, and there's a lot to work with.

Does that make more sense?

I don't know, but to be honest, I don't think the presence (or lack of) Eli will be the driving force behind how the ownership presents the job, nor the reason why a candidate takes the job.

If he's there, then he can be a great mentor to the young guy they pick early, while still perhaps remaining competitive when they get healthy and refocus under the new regime.

If he's not, then the new regime can take and develop a new young QB and know that the expectations for winning in the short term aren't as pressing.

Now retaining Eli and not taking a QB early to try and bandage together one more run would be a mistake.

No. You don't know the team. Jenkins? Are you kidding me? Apple is promising? Kennard never plays.

Alot of former players thought that the Giants were tanking the season and upset. Was suppose to stand on the sideline wearing Eli jerseys next week, not sure if this has changed now. Right now i think Elis best decision would be to walk away from the game. Great receivers there but offensive line and running game is bad. Dont see an upside going anywhere, it would only tarnish and put his HOF possibilities in jeopardy. Let us not forget he has 2 super-bowl wins. Before somebody throws out Denver, Eli is no Peyton, Peyton made Denver receivers relevant.

they can have andy reid

Assuming Eli stays, this is not realistic.

a West coast offense is the staple of Andy Reid coached teams and Eli isnt familiar with that type of system.

If Eli goes, then anything is possible.

In the end, a lot of the decision for a HC would be focused around whether Eli stays at QB. If you draft a rookie and plan to go with him, you want a coach who has a history of doing well with young QB's.

The problem with this, is that you have a crappy line, and putting a rookie in there may just ruin him.

My recommendation would be to mend the fence with Eli and bring in a coach that wants to run an offense that takes advantages of Eli's skill set. Draft O linemen with round 1 and 2 and sign the best O lineman you can find in free agency.

your second round pick is unlikely to start this year, but may be ready late in the year or next season. The first round pick can hopefully play RT or LT and your free agent can hopefully fill another hole on the line.

Another option is to trade down a few spots and then use the additional draft pick to pair up with the second round pick so you have two picks in round 1. (both spent on O line)

This will help the run game and will hopefully make Eli more productive.

with any luck you can have a solid line in 2 years.

THEN when Eli retires you will have a solid line and when you draft Eli's replacement, he can step into a situation where the line is reasonably good.

Sounds like even the Mara clan is taking a beating now too....... I've seen stories calling John out for being most to blame for this mess.

He is. First of all he spent no money on the team after the last SB while TC was coach. Then he had the balls to run TC out of town so he could put in his hand picked dope. He's 0-1 hiring head coaches so far.
