UFC 207 - Ronda Returns

Recommended Posts

Who's watching?

Interesting that Ronda hasn't done any interviews for this one. Meisha says she doesn't think Ronda wants to fight anymore. Dunno. Looking forward to this.

Cruz/Garbrandt should be a good fight as well.

Decent card. Looking forward to it.

I'm hoping. I'm hoping she didn't do interviews cause she just wanted to focus on training. If she's halfway out the door of the UFC cause she doesn't have the desire any more Nunes will kill her. So, hoping she's just focused. And Pissed.

This is her last fight, she is going to the WWE.

No way she goes WWE. She might quit to focus on her Hollywood career or other endeavors but she's not going WWE. Or I'd be shocked if she did.

I don't think she will. But if she did she could sign a contract like Brock where he shows up every once in a while. I could see her appearing in a few more 1 offs. Maybe a Monday night that leads a story where she is at wrestlemania or something. A regular? no, no way.

I don't think the media blackout is training or focus related. I think the girl has had a sort of mental breakdown.

Publicly, the hubris and the way she carried herself only works if you are invincible. I support that part of it from an entertainment standpoint, but a competitor has to be ready to face the world if you get knocked off your perch.

And behind the scenes, too many stories of her being a horrible human being to everyone she meets. Miserable biitch by most accounts. And yeah, you can get away with it when you are the untouchable face of the company. But take a loss and suddenly everyone you treated like shiit before is smiling at your humbling. And while you're still the money girl, one more loss likely ends that, and you are walking around with that knowledge while feeling more vulnerable in the octagon than ever before.

Maybe it can be summed up with:

Be a good person. Of course I'll love you when you can make money for me, but I'll still care about you when you can't.

Be a bad person. Of course I'll love you when you can make money for me, but I'll be happy to see you gone when you can't. Bad people tend to have mental breakdowns when they realize this.

She would be an instant megastar, so she would not have to show up much, like Lesnar.

I haven't heard all these bad things Ronda does or that she treats people horribly. I met her briefly at a book signing and she seemed great. The book signing was packed and they were running everyone though in like 20 seconds. Get up to the podium, have your book opened to this page, say hi to Ronda and get your book signed, and GTFO. One of the first people in line had her son with her. About a 7 year old boy who was a huge fan. Ronda took time to pose and take several pictures with him and was supremely gracious. Could have been an act but she seemed to genuinely care about her fans.

After she coached on the Ultimate Fighter she hooked up with several of the people she taught on the show to become the four horsewomen. She still trains with them and has their back. I'm pretty damn sure that's why Jessamin Duke has gotten several fights in the UFC despite the fact that she keeps getting her butt kicked.

The pics Ed posted show a ripped Ronda. She certainly looks ready to fight. We'll see.

So, predictions? I say Nunes by tko / ref stoppage.

I'll go with Ronda. I think it just depends on her mental state but if I gotta pick I'll take her.

On stage with fans is one thing. That's for the sake of business......

The stories I've heard or read are behind the scenes with other fighters, UFC personnel, etc. But I'll openly admit that I don't follow the UFC intensely, so it's possible I've heard 4-5 stories and am assuming it's the norm and judging her unfairly. Maybe later I'll find some of those stories.

Just a quick google search...10 minutes worth of work.....I'm not saying these stories prove anything. But I've read other ones that felt more damning, particularly from lesser fighters and employees. There simply seems to be a consensus of dislike for her from those in the know.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1794275-dennis-hallman-ronda-rousey-acts-like-a-14-year-old-boy

The Ultimate Fighter was having problems with the checks for the assistant coaches, like the money coming in for them. It was like a couple of weeks behind, and Ronda came to complain to Jamie Campione, who is the producer. She came and said, 'Hey Jamie, I’m really pissed off I brought some of the best coaches in the world here to this show, and they’re supposed to get paid. Here’s three weeks later, and they haven’t been paid.'

That’s a legit argument, and Jamie from the UFC, very respectful, and she said, 'Oh my gosh, Ronda. I’m so sorry; it will be taken care of very soon.' Before she could finish her sentence, Ronda interrupted her and said, 'You shut your mouth when I’m talking to you. You don’t open your mouth. When I speak to you, you sit there and listen and shut your mouth.' She said that to the producer.

I do think that Ronda has some sort of mental health issue. It’s either that or she’s severely immature. She acts like a 14-year-old boy trapped in a woman’s body, always trying to make everybody think that she’s tough when really she’s not sure of herself.

http://www.mmafighting.com/2016/1/10/10712336/holly-holm-ronda-rousey-put-herself-in-the-position-to-be-criticized

The new UFC women's bantamweight champion said she does not agree with much of the venom Rousey has received. But she also understands the origin.

"I don't think that anybody deserves that," Holm told Ariel Helwani on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "I do think that she put herself in that position. She's even said herself that if people don't like her style, then she doesn't care. That's who she is and she doesn't claim to be anybody else. I don't have any animosity towards her. A lot of people feel like maybe I should, but I just don't waste energy with stuff like that."

Rousey called Holm "fake" after an odd weigh-in fracas before UFC 193. She then posted on Instagram, calling Holm a "fake humility ######." Rousey didn't touch gloves with Holm before the fight. Up until that point, there was zero trash talk and nothing but respect between the two women. But something obviously set Rousey off.

Glad to see that @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night. Was soundly beaten - not a nice person!

Tate, however, has had an unfavorable opinion of Rousey for quite some time, and it’s only been strengthened by their TUF coaching stint together.

“I think that she treats a lot of people that she views beneath her,” said Tate. “You know if your not on her level or above her, she dismisses you…

“I feel very sorry for any of her future boyfriends.”

http://mmajunkie.com/2015/11/ronda-rouseys-ex-manager-i-created-a-monster-shes-not-a-good-person

Harvey, who is suing Rousey over their disputed contract and worked for Rousey during her rise to stardom, Sunday morning posted a link on his Twitter account to the following post on his Instagram account:

“KARMA. No need for revenge. Just sit back & wait. Those who hurt you will eventually screw up themselves & if you’re lucky, GOD will let you watch.”“

"In a sense it was poetic justice because she’s wronged so many people that were there for her at the beginning of her career,’’ he said. “To not be part of something I was instrumental in creating, has been very difficult.”

Again, maybe all these chicks are jealous. But it seems rare in sports for a favorite to lose, and all of that favorites competitors to be thrilled with the fall. Usually competitors instead feel regret for not having been the one to do it.

On the fighter’s side of Holm’s win, Miesha Tate, Cyborg Justino and Laila Ali all laid into Rousey, basking in the reflective glory of watching the top female athlete on the planet fall.

Ali spoke to TMZ following the fight, giving an unimpressed and damning condemnation of Rousey’s performance and status. “In order to be the best in the world, you definitely don’t ever get beat up like that in your prime, period,” she said.

Cyborg, who threatened legal action against Rousey in August over steroid allegations, tweeted the only two characters needed to express her feelings on the fight: :)

“I’m [expletive] stoked,” Tate said. “[Expletive]Ronda Rousey. [Expletive] her and her ‘Nobody has the right to beat me.’ Nobody has the right to beat you? Well you just got beat, [expletive]. Anyways, I’m proud of Holly. She had a perfect, flawless game plan. She came in with it tonight and now she is the champion. I look forward to that fight, because I think that I’m next in line.”

I think she'll win, but I think this is the last fight she'll ever win in the octagon.

Now as to the squared circle? She might be Women's champion by the time the Royal Rumble ends.

Thanks for the links. I was very disappointed in how Ronda treated Holly Holm before their fight. I remember telling my GF that I had lost some respect for her and she agreed. Holly Holm has always been nothing but respectful and gracious. I didn't understand it and still don't.

Some of those other chicks are pretty horrible people as well so hard to give credibility to people like Meisha, Cyborg, etc.....but Ronda certainly doesn't seem like an angel.

I don't know much about Meisha or Cyborg or whoever. But this below is one of the stories that stuck with me about Rousey. I think I took notice because we can all agree Paige Vanzant is probably the true best woman's MMA fighter, right?

And seeing how I visit womanista.com so often...

http://womanista.com/2016/05/06/ufc-champion-ronda-rousey-cussed-out-dancing-with-the-stars-cont/

Current UFC champion and Rousey rival Miesha Tate told the story on a May 5 edition of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Tate recounted a story that VanZant told her at a recent VIP party. Reportedly, both VanZant and Rousey were at a Reebok photo shoot together when VanZant — a fan of Rousey's — searched the building for her in order to snap a quick photo.

"Stay away from Ronda, don't ask for a picture," Reebok officials apparently told VanZant.

"I guess Ronda came later that day and seeked (sic) her out — just like cussed her out," Tate said.

The reasoning for all the cussing? "[Rousey is] like, 'You congratulated Holly Holm for beating me, so [expletive] you, you fair-weather...," Tate explained.

The Dancing with the Stars front-runner apparently confirmed the startling incident.

Paige VanZant recently confirmed to TMZ that Ronda Rousey had a few choice words for her last month at a promotional event for Reebok. According to VanZant, Rousey was quite unhappy that Paige had congratulated Holly Holm in a social media post following Holm’s victory over the previously undefeated Ronda.

Paige’s statement on the matter was brief, only acknowledging that the incident happened. In fact, it wasn’t VanZant who initially spilled the beans about the verbal altercation between herself and Rousey in the first place. Ronda’s nemesis Miesha Tate actually revealed Paige’s story during a podcast with UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

According to Yahoo, Tate stated that VanZant approached her at a UFC VIP party to express her shock over the incident. Paige had hoped during a mutual shoot for Reebok that she would be able to snag a photo with Ronda, a fighter VanZant is said to have admired. While reps at Reebok indicated to Paige that she may want to avoid Rousey, Ronda apparently took it upon herself to confront the 22-year-old VanZant for “crossing her” by tweeting out congratulations to Holly Holm. Though Paige confirmed the incident with Ronda happened, Rousey has yet to respond.

In all fairness to Paige VanZant, the young fighter has a tendency to congratulate other fighters on their victories quite often, including those who beat her. After Paige suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of Rose Namajunas, VanZant commended Rose on her technique and victory. According to SB Nation’s Bloody Elbow, VanZant acknowledged Namajunas’ superiority in the octagon and was humble regarding her defeat stating, “I got outclassed in every way.”

Amanda Nunes +145

Ronda Rousey -165

Rousey is a big name, past her prime. I don't know anything about this fight, but purely from a odds standpoint - I'd bet Nunes.
