Mike Honcho 4,046 Posted May 1, 2018 J. Hader (S, 4) 2.2 0 0 0 1 8 0 37-26 1.00 To sum it up: » Nine batters faced. » Thirty-seven pitches thrown. » A career-high eight strikeouts(every out was a K) » A fourth save of two or more innings. In the 8th inning he threw 16 pitches, 15 were fastballs. Yeah...yeah...yeah...it was the REDS, but still that's a dominant performance.
edjr 5,587 Posted May 1, 2018 What kind of relief pitcher goes 2.2 innings? he must have been seen as a stiff, to be in that role?
Mike Honcho 4,046 Posted May 1, 2018 What kind of relief pitcher goes 2.2 innings? he must have been seen as a stiff, to be in that role? Not at all, rising star in the organization(2nd year). Brewers main closer is injured and Hader hadn't pitched since last Wednesday. Took 7 pitches to get out of the 7th, so Counsel gave him the eighth. After the 8th: Having not pitched since Wednesday, and mowing through the Reds lineup as he was, Hader was eager to stay in the game for the ninth. Counsell granted his wish. "I definitely felt good," Hader said. "Body was feeling good on that rest. It was nice to be able to stretch it out, get a couple innings in and let the fastball eat a little bit." Mike Honcho 4,046 Posted May 1, 2018 Some more nuggets. The second-year lefty needed to get eight outs to close out the game and he got all eight via strikeout. Hader is the first pitcher in MLB history to do that in a relief appearance. There have been other pitchers who have struck out eight in three innings of relief, but NEVER eight in less than three innings. Curt Hogg@CyrtHoggIt's getting insane. No pitcher in *MLB history* has ever posted a K/9 over 18 over an entire month with at least 15 IP. Josh Hader finishes April at 19.5 Nasty stuff ,,,,,now if only we could get some historically average runs produced when playing the Cubs, we might have something.
posty 2,296 Posted May 1, 2018 "Relax, all right? Don’t try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they’re fascist. Throw some ground balls – it’s more democratic." ~~ Crash Davis

posty 2,296 Posted May 1, 2018 BTW this was a very impressive feat... It doesn't matter if it was the Reds, they are still professionals... I knew Hader was nasty, but not this nasty...
Gladiators 1,904 Posted May 1, 2018 Really liked Hader last season and thought he would be a great closer. Interested to see what role he ultimately ends up in.

Mookz 1,287 Posted May 1, 2018 Awesome job trading him away, O's. And without even an inning at the Major League level.

ZeroTolerance 582 Posted May 20, 2018 Just think, the Astros gave up him AND Domingo Santana (30 HRs in 2017) and one other prospect...for Carlos Gomez.
