wiffleball 4,640 Posted November 30, 2016 From Leah Remini. I guess there isn't too much that they could say about Scientology that would surprise me. But Damn, they're even weirder and more heartless than I thought. I hope it inspires some change / federal investigation / something. It's really the first time any major investigation (that I know of) has occurred to Scientology. Hollywood is terrified of those fockers. I honestly don't know what the difference is between them and say, David Koresh. But, then again, knowing some people here, they'll think they're being smart when they say "Hey, ALL religions are a cult." Gee, thanks much. I don't know how they got so powerful so quickly in the modern era. But, it might not be such a bad idea to put Leah in your 2017 Death Pool.

wiffleball 4,640 Posted November 30, 2016 So what you are saying is they are the modern day Masons? Dunno much about the Masons. But yeah in that both loves them some secrecy. Seems like Masons were into basic old-timey voodoo and Scientology is more science fiction.

tanatastic 2,061 Posted November 30, 2016 Xenu (/ˈziːnuː/), also called Xemu, was, according to Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" who 75 million years ago brought billions of his people to Earth (then known as "Teegeeack") in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes, and killed them with hydrogen bombs. This is straight up fact to them, information they get only after spending hundreds of thousands in advancement. not a joke or a gag, this is like their bible story here. How can a sane person see this and take them seriously? Please dont make zombie jesus comparisons, im an athiest so yea that story is bogus too. But in this day and age, how can one even give this a passing glance without busting out laughing? It has to be some serious manipulation of really gullible people.

Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted November 30, 2016 Also the money and power the masons had also seem similar. I doubt they are similar. The Masons do a lot of community stuff. Shriners hospital was created by masons. There uses to be a ton of pipe fitters that were masons. I could join if I wanted, which would probably help with getting jobs, but it is definitely not my thing. They require time and that is something I don't have to give up. I prefer spending my extra time with my daughter.

One of the best parts of Going Clear Doc was where the one guy said something like 'Any religion can usually tell the core of it's belief system within a few minutes. With Scientology, it costs you hundreds of thousands of dollars and years to find out your God is Xenu.' So the whole religion is based on Hubbard's Sci-Fi writings from the 30s when he was paid a penny per word for his writing. http://www.businessinsider.com/l-ron-hubbard-history-sci-fi-writer-to-scientology-founder-2015-

He thought it was ridiculous. Yet he stayed for years after, which I found odd. Must be really difficult to let go if you're that heavily invested. I don't get the feeling that there are a lot of casual Scientologists. It seems like the majority of them are very into it.
mighty_thor 115 Posted December 10, 2016 Before I saw the Going Clear documentary I just thought that Scientology was just a bunch of harmless space cadets. But after watching it, I find it kind of scary. They are so protective and secretive that it really is cultish. The things these people are willing to do to protect their "religion" makes me think they could end up literally drinking the koolaid.

Remember, during these 'Clear' sessions, they record/log everything you say. They use this information as blackmail material (John Travolta, etc....) Once they feel their hold on you slipping, they essentially put you in lock down and put a guard on you. If you do escape, you leave with nothing but the clothes on your back and since most break off ties with their families (disconnecting) they have no where to go. It's like most abusive relationships; first they isolate their spouse and then begin the emotional abuse followed by physical abuse. I'm fascinated with this subject. The number of people that have been duped by this crap and the lengths they go to defend ANY part of it. They've done a PHENOMENAL job keeping Xenu under wraps for so long and for blackmailing the IRS into giving them religious status. After all, if you lead off with "Galactic Confederacy" & "75 Megaton Nukes" you wouldn't get a nickel from people.

The blackmail and subsequent caving of the IRS was an amazing part of that documentary. If that had not happened Scientology probably wouldn't exist today. mighty_thor 115 Posted December 11, 2016 Was it Going Clear? That was a great doc. This one is a series with the actress Leah Remini. It looks like they may some of the same people from the documentary on it. I think she is trying to take down the 'religion'. Good luck to her. The doc is on HBO and I recommend anyone watching the A&E series to check it out.
wiffleball 4,640 Posted December 12, 2016 On a related note, NPR is doing a series of reports on the Jehova's Witlesses. Good Gawd, like they said, at least with the Catholics, it was a bunch of rogue priests doing shiit off the books. With the JW's, they actually have special envelopes (blue) to tell 'The Watchtower' (it's like the JW Vatican) about sexual and physical abuse of children. All members of the JW are clearly told NOT TO REPORT SUCH THINGS TO AUTHORITIES. They also discourage watching media and going to college, etc. The California Supreme Court actually compelled them to turn over all such documents - and they refused to do so. So, the court just said "fock you" you default on this civil case - and they had to pay millions of dollars over and over again. But, they're a multi-billion dollar enterprise, so WTF - ever apparently. Like Scientology, they too have a 'shunning' process that is apparently very effective in shutting down narcs and dissenters. These guys can eat the same diick that I hope Scientology ends up choking upon.
