Any Business Owners Here?

Recommended Posts

I need some advice on starting up a business. I'm not doing it right now but I plan on opening up my own practice within the next 5 years and I want to make sure I get everything I need in order. I started saving up money for it already but how much roughly does starting up a business cost? Any special things Ill need to get done for it? Thanks in advance

I can help you start an online business, but I gotta get paid.

Something easy you can do literally in a few days time, find a few items on alibaba you like, put your logo on them, setup an online store, do some SEO and boom, you have an extra income.

hey - I can't tell you much about setting up an LLC or Scorp or anything like that... but I don't think it's that difficult or expensive.

What you DO need to think of right away is you web presence... i.e. how are you going to get people to find you when they search in Google, Bing, Yahoo,

What are the keywords for you product / service? How competitive is it to be found for those keywords?

I started and run a non-profit so that's probably not what you're looking for but I agree with the above. Your online presence is going to be a big factor. Marketing marketing marketing. Even if it's Flyers. Facebook, web, twitter, email. Do something unique

Did you say what kind of small business it was?

I never had my own practice, but have worked as a private consultant, performed research for the university and been employed by a hospital. Overall, solo practitioners are a dying breed. Unless you open a concierge practice, there is too much overhead and unnecessary middle people to justify the expense. Moreover, you won't have stable income for months after you start working, as patients just don't materialize out of thin air and reimbursement is delayed initially. Better to join a group or at least pair up with a more experienced partner.

Giving you a tremendous benefit of the doubt, you really shouldn't worry too much about it at this point. There is no guarantee you'll get into med school, remain interested in whatever area you think you'll pursue or want a private practice once you see how medicine operates outside of the military.

Although this probably won't hurt, most clinicians don't rely very heavily on web-based advertising. I am assuming he is talking about starting a medical practice.

Already have a client base that would get referred to me and I know it starts out slow but the practice is really going to be an urgent care with some established patients. The advantage I have is my BIL chiropractor clients (not all mind you) would get referred over to my place so while I would probably start out small with just seeing probably 30 patient if even that a week I could build it up. My BIL is pretty business smart and built his clinic up from seeing 10-15 patients a week to seeing over 600 a week. I've got the connections to get patients that's not the problem I'm facing. I'm just needing info on what I'll need to prepare while I'm in that waiting period. To start off with I'll be the only one seeing patients but I do plan on hiring more help for that.

I love the guys who reply to him like it's serious. But anyway, I've been meaning to ask everyone about cargo shorts. Do you think I should iron the pockets or leave them alone? I kinda like the way they look left alone. Any thoughts?

I love that the people I don't want to hear from are ignored so I only get the people who actually contribute to the board :overhead:

Anyway back to topic at hand. Anything I need to start prepping for besides saving money? I've already got experience and I'll be getting more in the next couple of years. Don't want to start one without making sure it'll be a success

Is there a way we can just kick this alias from posting in threads? I feel it's really taking away from the thread and the idiot is relentless in his pursuit of attention

Yeah, get a lawyer. Maybe a few of them. And be prepared for your appeal when you are inevitably institutionalized in a mental health facility. But just hope you don't get on Nurse Ratchets ward. She hates baseball.

When you start hiring people you MUST check references and do background checks. Any person can talk and sound good about themselves and their past. Don't hire without checking.

not sure how medical practices are structured. I'd suggest talking to a lawyer that specializes in your field. I'm sure the liability aspect has to be well thought out. Thats aside from establishing whatever approvals or vetting as a medical provider.

How can I invest, and is there a limit on how many shares I can buy?

He'd send you pictures of the office space he plans to use but it's in a pretty exclusive building and they don't allow photos to be taken and then offered for public view. He has them but he doesn't want to risk getting kicked out of his space.

Hope you understand

Never started or ran a private business, but I have started multiple non-profits and currently run a multi-million dollar non-profit so there are certainly some similarities while there are also differences.

I'm also part of a non-profit entrepreneurial resource board that is available at no cost to existing or startup businesses located in the communities we serve. We help businesses evaluate the trinity of their business, their product, finances and marketing. You really need to evaluate where you are strong and where you need help within this trinity. And often we find business owners often think one component is a strength where in reality it may not be. Good luck.

Doubt I'll be doing anything with shares to the urgent care. The one I work at now doesn't do shares of the company
