If CJ signs with Dallas

Recommended Posts

On Rotoworld they said the Jets, Giants and Cowboys are landing spots for CJ once the Titans release him. This can't be good news for Murry, although he should still get the bulk of the carries. Thoughts?

If he goes to the Giants or Cowboys it will be bad news for everybody involved. Murray and CJ would marginalize each other and NY would have CJ, Jennings and David Wilson as a 3rd down back/dark horse.

it'll never happen--dallas already has a younger version of CJ, named dunbar. and murray is coming off of a great stretch--DAL needs to give him sufficient reps to figure out whether to commit to him or move on.

of course, the main issue is the cap--CJ is going to cost too much to add. i actually think that DAL is planning to go into the season under the cap (but not under the cap floor), in order to roll the cap savings from this year into next (for the dez and smith re-signings). that's why they have been so quiet in FA. the other alternative is that they plan to bring waters back to add IOL depth, but don't want to commit the money now due to his distaste for OTAs and camp.

I do not understand the CJ love. He one year wonder that will never ever regain that years form. He blames his O line for everything and is a cancer. Why in the fock would anyone want to gamble on him instead of drafting a rb.

I mostly agree with you, but he has had much more success than just one year. As of now? If I were an nfl executive I would stay far far away.

Why would a team like Dallas that is devoid of defensive talent spend money on a RB when the have a starter in Murray & capable backups in Randle & Dunbar?

Because jerry jones is the owner.

He has horrible vision and instincts. But can fly like the wind when not touched. One trick pony

Come on guys - don't just spew out nonsense. Actually have some insight and depth to your statements. Case in point the two quotes above. Don't believe me - check out link.

Don't know if your post was a joke or not... I saw a lot of Kerry Collins and Vince Young in those very dated highlights lol... I've contended for years that Johnson has lost a step. Even his coach stated as much before last season. Don't get me wrong, he's still fast. But when you put up a Pro Day 4.24 it's hard to keep the wheels turning like that as the years, carries, and injuries pile up.

Of course, easiest thing to do would be set him up at the starting line with a stop-watch. But he'd be insane to do so.

He is fast.

He's tough and does not miss games

He's a good blocker- very under rated

He just had meniscus surgery. Not being mentioned, but any knee surgery is a concern for a speed back.

He struggled to post 1000 yards last season.

He still has the speed to break any play and take it to the EZ, but if he doesn't see an opening he's just as likely to lay down in the backfield.

He doesn't have good receiving numbers, because the Titans stopped throwing to him. Mostly because he can't catch.

When the new coaching staff was installed, CJ never came to town and never met with them, until this week.

A change of secenery and a cut in pay may motivate him this year.

Or not.

maybe the johnson of 5 years ago, but the current CJ? do you really think that CJ's recently demonstrated ability is 16x better than dunbar's?

i'll keep dunbar at $570K, thank you.

I do love Dunbar, listen guys if we can get him cheap on a one your prove yourself deal... than why not. I am quite sure that is what everyone else is offering him, and I am sure he would rather play for Dallas over the stupid Jets. Murray is in a contract year so may the best man win. One thing about CJ is that he isn't beat up although he has played for 6 years and he stays healthy. Romo has proved that he can sling the ball around. Williams was great his rookie year and should be improved. Dez keeps getting better and better, Witten hasn't slowed down and I think that big arse TE they drafted last year will show his worth. Mix in Murray, CJ and Dunbar their O will be explosive. Also you cant about the oline anymore, talk about a unit that was good and will be even better. If we don't get him fine, but......

CJ was the 8th best RB last year in PPR behind a very disorganized OLINE, no QB or WR's worth a craap

because we have so many needs in so many other areas. murray actually had a better season than CJ despite missing 2 games, even though DAL often abandoned the run and the first half of the season was a disaster for the OL. what this means is that johnson is not enough of an upgrade to sacrifice other needs.

i mean yeah--if we could get him on a 1 year, $1.5M deal, maybe. but he's going to make $5M on the open market, and since murray is at least comparable in terms of recent production, that money would be better spent on the defense or O line (which will make murray even better).

he may still be a quality football player, but i'd be much happier improving the defense (which really needs help) rather than the offense (which is already quite solid). the only time romo had a good defense supporting him, the team went 13-3. in the ensuing years, the offense got very good, but the results were poor because the defense wasn't pulling its weight.

if we continue with that model, we'll continue with the mediocrity.

Signing CJ would completely erase and destroy all the good work Dallas has actually accomplished this offseason. He makes no sense for this team right now, and he costs too damn much $$.
