US to create new military branch

Recommended Posts

I saw this. Casper Van Diem joins the Space Force when 'the bugs' bomb his home in Argentina.

Doogie Houser is a gay general.

Gary Busey's kid kills someone accidentally.

And Denise Richards is a hell of a pilot.

Only one small problem - granted, we've been violating it for decades, but we signed a treaty not to weaponize space.

It's always been bullshiit. Think we went to the moon for rocks?

Not saying "no" but am feeling quite unenthused. That's a whole new bureaucracy that needs to be created and I'm certainly not interested in paying any more money for military operations than we are now seeing as whenever I think of ways to balance the budget, my highest priority, this is where I always look to first.

Okay, but if we do this, can we finally admit that we haven't stormed a beach in any significant way since ww2.

We don't need a whole branch of service to do that anymore. Air Cav pretty much settled that.

The only thing the Marines did last time we invaded a country? Bob around in the ocean as a diversion.

I'm not saying Marines aren't handy, loyal, thrifty and brave - and great fighters, but their original MOS is MIA.

Wipe them out finally - along with the fact that they always want all their own new and unique wep platforms.

Integrate them into specfor and other places. Take all that overhead and cost and use it to fund a new branch.

Hell, there are people who were pissed when we got rid of the cavalry, but it had to happen.

We've had space and missile command for as long as I can remember. Probably just shift that responsibility to them and include "cyber", much more hacker stuff than Star Trek stuff, more than likely.

Yep. It was the one other job I wanted in the Air Force. Would have been a while before I could have gotten in for that job to be available though. If I was to stay in the AF I would have cross trained over to that.

Usually, but I read them. The first post was a witty idea about tying in Starship Troopers, although he referenced Gary Busey vs. his son Jake. The second actually makes a point I've thought for some time that the Marines need to rethink their mission or risk being disbanded. :dunno:

Kicking ass and doing more with less will never be antiquated. It's the politicians that are trying to dull the sharpest blade in the arsenal. Their mission is what it has always been: The nations expiditonary force in readiness. I can't foresee not having a need for that.

Between having RP Lite as a member and two dozen Mt. Rushmore threads, we should all re-think why we're so stupid to post here.

In all seriousness, I don't think the military is the best place for this shiot.

The US military has done amazing

things.

- Encouraging out of the box thinking ain't it's strong suit.

Based upon the commercials I've seen, I think it's most a recruiting tool for today's video game youth.

Then, when they get in, they realize that somebody still has to wash the planes...

Related, we already have the NSA, then the CIA decided they couldn't trust them, and created their own super secret unit. FBI too.

Not to mention a couple dozen other 'black box' agencies that stand alone.

Not to mention a couple dozen other 'collaborations' with the top technical universities and silicon valley.

Not to mention all the private contracting firms (McAfee, etc.) that have huge contracts with the government.

...And every single branch of the military.

- And this is just the US.

Reminds me of Corporate America - you end up with 23 teams competing instead of working together.

And, with stuff like this, shared knowledge and techniques is the way you want to go.

Yeah. Military guys can maybe answer this.

I've always wondered how much redundant personnel and equipment there is in the four branches. Like each branch has its own helicopter repair guys and stuff. Seems like maybe one could merge some of that and save some coin and operate better. I dunno.

Lots of redundancy. Lots of waste of tax payers money (would probably piss people off if they really knew). Lots of unnecessary civilian employees that can be replaced by military personnel. Just a lot of waste. Some of the redundancy is needed. The equipment, military personnel, those are needed.

Not all branches are deployed close enough to "share", nor should they be. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Plus, each branch has different missions and goals. Obviously we wouldn't want the air force and navy together, even tho they both have planes. So in order to share equipment and personnel, somebody is out of their element or position or location that best suits their readiness.

They have two completely different missions, and would play two different roles in a combat theater. Navy patrols the coasts, waters, provides air support, transports personnel and equipment and Naval artillery within range. Marines are ground with some air power used inland, sorta the same with Army. Air Force can cover everywhere via air. Imo, and just mine, you might be able to group Army and Marines together. They're The closest to the same, and really, the coast guard could and should be absorbed into the Navy.

We could have 3 branches. Navy, Air Force, and a Army/Marine hybrid combination. Blame your senators, congressperson, whomever. The more military bases and defense contracts and personnel == jobs which == $$ for their districts. Which == reelection. For instance, the Navy has actual military installations or bases in land locked states????? Why?? $$$ for those states that's why. Lots of waste. All just my 2 cents.

Yeah. We had a naval air station in Memphis for years. It finally was closed, seeing as how the nearest salt water is a good piece away. I guess if an enemy aircraft carrier ever wandered up the Mississippi though...
