Craig Kimbrel pitched the 78th perfect inning in MLB history yesterday

Recommended Posts

78 seems low.

seems like it's happened way more?

I know Nolan Ryan has done it twice, or I remember hearing he did.

Pedro Martinez did it and the 1st guy he whiffed was Ichiro.

Huh...I listened to that inning while driving home from work yesterday. I knew he struck out the side, but I didn't realize it was 9 pitches.

The two fouls keep it from being perfect.

Interesting take. I wonder how many of those 78 there was no contact on any of the 9 pitches.

I'd rather throw 3 pitches and get 3 groundouts to first, but okay. :dunno:

Max Scherzer became the 79th different pitcher last night...

Three intentional walks and three pickoffs is the way to go IMO. :dunno:

0 pitch inning. :pointstosky:

I'd prefer to drill 3 guys in the back and pick them off.

Greg Maddux always said that he wanted three pitches and 3 ground balls to second base for a perfect inning.

Kenley Jensen last night...

Jansen, Jensen. Whatever.

With all of these happening this year, that 78 number seems really low.

He also had 4 strikeouts in an inning for the 2nd time in his career. Both tied records as well

That's a dumb rule.

That's a dumb rule.

Well, the umps screwed up the rule anyway. The first batter swung and missed at strike 3, but the ball hit the batter and skipped away. The Sox appealed for a review and the review clearly showed the ball hit the batter which should have made it a strikeout and the ball being dead. Instead, they ruled that the batter was safe on the wild pitch. After the game the league admitted they were wrong.

They ended up with 20 strikeouts for the game

ANDDDDD I was focking there. 11-2 blowout. Worst performance this year by the mailing it it Tigers and I got to see it in Cleveland. Yay

But Victor Martinez got his 2000th hit and he got a great reception by the Indians fans. So that was cool.

Porcello just did it too. Seems to be happening a ton this year

the amount of whiffs in MLB now is getting higher and higher.

Seems like no one cares if there are 2 strikes and still swings for the fences

not gonna look it up but I seem to recall a recent article/study/etc. that suggested becoming more defensive hitter with 2 strikes (choking up, shortening swing, etc) is completely wrong (statistically - whatever) despite fact that it's almost gospel in teaching hitting.

.
