edjr 5,567 Posted May 12, 2017 78 seems low. seems like it's happened way more? I know Nolan Ryan has done it twice, or I remember hearing he did. https://vid.me/fdKz Pedro Martinez did it and the 1st guy he whiffed was Ichiro.

Mookz 1,287 Posted May 12, 2017 I'd rather throw 3 pitches and get 3 groundouts to first, but okay.

posty 2,296 Posted May 12, 2017 The "Immaculate Inning"... It has been done by 78 pitchers for a total of 83 times... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_pitchers_who_have_struck_out_three_batters_on_nine_pitches Far more rare than a no-hitter and the cycle, yet it never makes news... Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted May 26, 2017 That's a dumb rule. Well, the umps screwed up the rule anyway. The first batter swung and missed at strike 3, but the ball hit the batter and skipped away. The Sox appealed for a review and the review clearly showed the ball hit the batter which should have made it a strikeout and the ball being dead. Instead, they ruled that the batter was safe on the wild pitch. After the game the league admitted they were wrong. They ended up with 20 strikeouts for the game

supermike80 1,286 Posted July 8, 2017 Carlos Carrasco did it against the Tigers tonight... The fifth this year and the 81st different pitcher in history... ANDDDDD I was focking there. 11-2 blowout. Worst performance this year by the mailing it it Tigers and I got to see it in Cleveland. Yay But Victor Martinez got his 2000th hit and he got a great reception by the Indians fans. So that was cool.

edjr 5,567 Posted August 10, 2017 Porcello just did it too. Seems to be happening a ton this year the amount of whiffs in MLB now is getting higher and higher. Seems like no one cares if there are 2 strikes and still swings for the fences
TD Ryan2 314 Posted August 10, 2017 the amount of whiffs in MLB now is getting higher and higher. Seems like no one cares if there are 2 strikes and still swings for the fences not gonna look it up but I seem to recall a recent article/study/etc. that suggested becoming more defensive hitter with 2 strikes (choking up, shortening swing, etc) is completely wrong (statistically - whatever) despite fact that it's almost gospel in teaching hitting. .
