5-Points 2,729 Posted May 12, 2018 Then split Orville and Wilbur Wright and Lewis and Clark.Let's not get carried away. https://www.biography.com/people/orville-wright-20672999 Orville Wright is best known for inventing the airplane with his brother, Wilbur. https://www.biography.com/people/wilbur-wright-20672839 Wilbur Wright is best known for developing the first successful airplane with his brother, Orville. https://www.biography.com/people/meriwether-lewis-9381267 Meriwether Lewis teamed up with William Clark to form the historic Lewis and Clark expedition. Together they explored the lands west of the Mississippi. https://www.biography.com/people/william-clark-9542620 William Clark was half of the exploration team Lewis and Clark, who in the early 1800s explored and mapped the lands west of the Mississippi River. https://www.biography.com/people/neil-armstrong-9188943 Astronaut, military pilot, and educator, Neil Armstrong made history on July 20, 1969, by becoming the first man to walk on the moon. https://www.biography.com/people/buzz-aldrin-9179894 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin was one of the first people to walk on the moon. He and flight commander Neil Armstrong made the Apollo 11 moonwalk in 1969. Unlike the Wright bros. and Lewis & Clark, I think Neil and Buzz are viable stand alone options. However, while Armstrong's bio doesn't specifically name Aldrin in the first paragraph, it does mention the moonwalk and Aldrin's bio does name Armstrong specifically. I say we let it slide. shotsup 832 Posted May 12, 2018 I do not. This whole draft is a BS sham if we let Armstrong and Aldrin be one pick. Outrageous
shotsup 832 Posted May 12, 2018 I shouldnt have the first time and I corrected it. This time, its appropriate. They were the first to explore the moon. One drove the bus, the other got out walking. If I took just one, someone else could come in and take the other. It was one achievement, just like the wright brothers and Lewis & Clarke. I want the whole achievement on my roster, I dont want to share. I didn't see this while I was bitching about it. Yes I had Armstrong on my list and figured I'd go Buzz if I miss out on him. You don't get to choose the whole "achievement" at your own discretion!! That's rediculius. With the risk of dropping names - so then Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein is one pick ?? Lots of people would mention Neil Armstrong without including Buzz Aldrin and vice-versa." So I set out to prove my point and I looked them each up independently. I thought for sure Armstrong and Aldrin would have enough personal achievements that the other wouldn't necessarily be mentioned in the same breath, so to speak. The results made me question my position enough to let it slide.

Another option could be to change one of the "wildcard" categories to "event" or something and give him Moon Landing. But I'm sure that won't fly either. Neil and Buzz are known for the Apollo moon mission. Thats it. There were two of them, together, in the capsule. When they returned home, it was the two of them together in all the photos and stories. Fock, Lewis and Clark had other people with them when they explored. I absolutely am not arguing that the Wright brothers or l&c should be separate. But neither should the two guys who went to the moon together. The difference between Apollo mission and Lewis and Clarks exposition from a name standpoint is simply marketing. Armstrong and aldrin walked on the moon nine minutes apart. To argue that that is a separate endecour is absurd. But whatever. Shots can have the second man to walk on the moon. Im done arguing about it.
