Vikings4ever 550 Posted March 24, 2006 Seahawks | Burleson signs offer sheet Fri, 24 Mar 2006 14:15:34 -0800 Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Seahawks have signed restricted free agent WR Nate Burleson (Vikngs) to an offer sheet. The Minnesota Vikings have seven days to match the offer. If they do not, the Vikings would receive Seattle's third-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Sapronos04 0 Posted March 24, 2006 49 Mill. offer. Another huge loss for the Vikes
football_scooter 0 Posted March 24, 2006 1. Burleson never quite lived up to expectations. 2. 49 million is a lot of $ 3. They still have Travis Taylor, Koren Robinson and Marcus Robinson - they're likely better off with the 3rd rounder. If they were that attached to Nate, they'd have retained him. 4. they still can match the offer. As was mentioned in the other topic about this, the Seahawks might be trying to get back at the Vikes for the Hutch deal, but may end up hurting themselves instead. DJax, Warrick, Engram - how many WRs do they really need?

Vikings4ever 550 Posted March 24, 2006 The Seahawks signed Vikings WR Nate Burleson to an offer sheet today, giving Minnesota seven days to match or lose the three-year veteran to Seattle. Get this (and I am not making this up): The offer is a seven-year, $49 million deal with $5.25 million guaranteed and two hilarious poison pills guaranteeing the entire $49 million if he plays a certain number of games in the State of Minnesota, or if his average-per-year exceeds the average of the highest-paid running back on the team (I need to confirm the specifics on the second poison pill, but you get the point: The Seahawks have a running back who averages more money per year, while the Vikings do not). http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/seahawks/
freighttrain 0 Posted March 24, 2006 With KRob, Williamson, Taylor and MRob I think Burleson can be let go. I like Burleson but I think it would be best for the Vikes to let him go. It clears up the WRs somewhat. I would gladly take the Seahawks 3rd round pick.
t.j 35 Posted March 24, 2006 http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/seahawks/ That's only $750k per year of salary cap hit due to the signing bonus per year, so depending on how much the base salaries are he probably won't be costing a ton against the Seahawks cap the next few years. If they cut him after 4 years they only take a $2.25M accelerated hit at that time. I highly doubt he'll get even half of $49M out of this deal. I do wonder though how Burleson feels about being the pawn in Seattle's act of bitterness? I think he could do ok in Seattle, I wonder if he wanted out of Minny anyway after his role was reduced rather than increased last year, especially with them having brought in Williamson and KRob. jocstrap 8 Posted March 24, 2006 As coach Holmgreen looks at his weekend's matchup - Nate Burlesson/Peter Warrick lines up in the slot versus the nickle, dime, corner in a one on one battle. You know he has a great big when he sees that safety cheating forward to take on Alexander. This could be huge for the Seahwaks!
SoloMatisse 0 Posted March 24, 2006 I think one interesting story here from a fantasy perspective is that Burleson's leaving for Seattle will pave the way for Koren Robinson to potentially break out in '06 with the Vikes. Theyve committed alot of money to him and its not to return kicks. With an offseason of working with Johnson and developing chemistry, I can see good things happening. Quickolas1 80 Posted March 24, 2006 Rotoworld: Seahawks signed WR Nate Burleson to a seven-year, $49 million offer sheet, with $5.25 million guaranteed and two comical "poison pills" provisions included. The contract total was made to look just like the offer sheet Minnesota used to sign Steve Hutchinson away from the Seahawks. Burleson's deal would be re-worked after a few years. More noteworthy are Seattle's tongue-in-cheek 'poison pills' in the deal that guarantees the entire contract if Burleson plays a certain numer of games in the state of Minnesota or exceeds the highest paid running back on the team. Those provisions are a loud attempt by Seattle to close significant loopholes in the 'transition' tag designation that Minnesota took advantage of with Hutchinson's contract. Among all that confusion is the likelihood that Minnesota won't keep Burleson. They only offered him the 'low tender' as a restricted free agent. They would receive a third-round pick as compensation. Burleson would become an interesting fantasy bet in Seattle. KorenRobinson is back on the radar. 10-15 round gem pick in a 12 team redraft. He could explode 8tds, could be average 6td or could suck 3/4 td's. That my boys is not bad for a 12th rounder! Vikings4ever 550 Posted March 24, 2006 I knew the Vikes should have used the first round tender on Burleson. So long Nate, it was fun watching your run over the Packers in 2004.
LunaTick 30 Posted March 24, 2006 This may be the only way that Marcus Robinson would return as a Vike Else I would have expected him to be dropped. Hey, there is always Javon Walker.
SmartassBoiler 0 Posted March 24, 2006 DJax, Warrick, Engram - how many WRs do they really need? Warrick's knees aren't going to allow him to go back to being a starting WR. He should suit them fine as a solid return man and a 4th WR. Engram did pretty well as a starter, but he's getting up there in age and the slot suits his skills better. DJax is a great WR who seems to have finally overcome his stone hands. I like Burleson a lot as a fit for this offense. He's quick and will provide a quality #2 option as long as he's healthy. They were smart letting Joe J. go...he's too fragile and not someone you can depend on for 16 games a year. I think this also puts Burleson back on the fantasy radar as a late round pick with intriguing upside.
Walter34 3 Posted March 25, 2006 http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/seahawks/ That's damn funny. The contract is guarenteed if Burleson plays 5 games in the state of Minnesota.
ttowndawgs 0 Posted March 25, 2006 Awesome, heh used the exact same deal as the hutch deal, put in the poison pill that minnesota couldnt even match if they wanted too...then for the hawks..rework the deal in a couple of years..hawks will end up paying about 16-17 million over 4 years. Love it!

Kitrick Taylor 0 Posted March 25, 2006 I think there is a "Special Master" someplace with egg all over his face right now. I am not a Vikings or Seahawks fan, but his ruling sucked. Seattle just showed why it was a bad ruling. Good for them. As a fantasy impact, I think this clears the way for KROB to be the #1 WR is Minny next year. Also probably decreases Darrell Jackson's worth a bit.
ggroovy17 0 Posted March 25, 2006 I think Nate Burleson is a good compliment to Darrell Jackson. He adds speed on one side where DJax is a great possession receiver. Seattle is making all the right moves this offseason. I'm not a Seattle homer either.
mozzy84 0 Posted March 25, 2006 Wow hes not that good. Vikes will gladly take the third rounder at that price, they didn't even need any pills.

DaveJ 0 Posted March 25, 2006 Warrick is a WR??? I thought he was a waterboy on the sidelines in a cast......... Yes SEA has WR's but they are getting long in the tooth, except for DJax... This is a good signing for a minimal amount of cash. If they wanted to send a message to the Vikes, they would have had some strange clause in the offer like making him the highest paid WR in the NFL if Hutchingson ends up the second highest paid O lineman between the teams. mozzy84 0 Posted March 25, 2006 ohhh now I get it the 49mill is a joke more or less. Burleson is 14 mill 4 years good thats for sure. Don't really feel like the vikes are getting screwed, they do get a third rounder at least. Can't blame the guy for wanting to play at home. Seattle is funny though, you knew this was coming

Way to much hype for him. Just look at their skill positions...Its SF like....
football_scooter 0 Posted March 25, 2006 As a fantasy impact, I think this clears the way for KROB to be the #1 WR is Minny next year. Also probably decreases Darrell Jackson's worth a bit. Keep in mind that Brad Johnson doesn't exactly light up the stat sheets. I expect all Minny WRs to be mediocre this year. More focus on the run, lots of safe, short passes, the occasional bomb...I keep hearing talk about who the #1 WR in MIN will be but to me they're all probably going to be #3s. GeminiV 0 Posted March 25, 2006 This doesn't really hurt the Vikings at all. It's not like they didn't have the cap room to give him the first round tender. I think they're happy with the third-rounder and expect to see them trading up in the draft.
49ER MAN 0 Posted March 25, 2006 Good move by the Seahawks and it give the Vikes a taste of their own medicine. Assuming the Vikes do not match the offer, in Seattle Burleson will not be asked to be the no.1 as DJ has that responsibility and they can make Engram the no.3 when he is a better slot receiver. This would increase Hasselbeck's fantasy value in my opinion.
ggroovy17 0 Posted March 25, 2006 I think it's hilarious. The contract will really only be 4 years for $14 because it is such a backloaded contract. Plus, the Seahawks don't draft until late 3rd round so it's really no big loss. Good sign for the Hawks though. Makes me want to stay away from all Vikings this year. Plus, the Seahawks don't draft until late 3rd round so it's really no big loss. Good sign for the Hawks though. Makes me want to stay away from all Vikings this year. Check his stats for last season. He was suppose to come in and be the starter, the man following the Moss trade, the receiving corps, etc. He did not sync at all with Culpepper or Johnson. I am not certain if this was a training camp error on the part of coaching staff. Or if his style vs the style of the other wr's just that different. Do realize that Dante is a timing QB. He doesn' scan all options before throwing, running, or being sacked. While I like him as a player, etc. The Vikings cannot, with these clauses, afford to sign him. He becomes, potentially, more valuable for the draft pick they would receive. Either in packaging to move up, or to chance more position players. Does anyone have the draft order for all other than the First round of this years draft?
remote controller 143 Posted March 26, 2006 Wow hes not that good. Vikes will gladly take the third rounder at that price, they didn't even need any pills. Getting the new threat via Free Agency will cost just as much(for a good one), and drafting one from this Wr draft isn't happening. The Vikes must be happy with the three they have left and will now fill in with low priced depth. The Vikes offense will be very mediocre, to say the least this season. Way too many losses.
