cmh6476 1,024 Posted May 3, 2006 diead at the age of 69 to lung cancer. My dad called me at work and told me the nurse said he only had a few hours to go. I went up and he couldnt say anything, and was struggling as he fought for his last breaths. Almost makes it easier to take, as you know he's no longer in pain and is finally at peace. 2 years and a day after I lose my brother, I lose my 1st grandparent. Life just continually throws you curves...

One of the things my mom likes the best is when people talk about Tommy. She was so excited to hear all the stories last night, and she was very glad I did that for her. jerryskids 6,790 Posted May 4, 2006 yes he did. And he said to me that night, "I can finally go in peace now that I was able to make your wedding!" My dad died of cancer 21 yrs ago, shortly after I graduated HS. He had terminal colon cancer. He seemed to hang on to see me graduate. I was valedictorian, and he couldn't attend of course, but we taped it and I came home afterwards (vs. graduation parties) and we watched the tape together. I'll never forget him clapping. He died 10 days later. I cried as I typed this.

Wow - I lost ALL of my grandparents before I was 8 and barely remember any of them - But I cant imagine losing a sibiling. EVER. yeah, I still have one great-grandparent living, and I'm 27. When I was born the grandpa that just passed aways parents were still alive, and they died maybe 5 years ago. Then one of my grandma's parents were both alive, as well as my grandma's grandpa when I was born. It's still that grandma's mom that is still alive today, my daughter is also a 5th generation kid. By my late 30's both my parents and all my grandparents and most of my uncles and aunts were all gone. Consider yourself fortunate to have known all your grandparents. Sympathies to your family, especially your grandmother.
