What pick would you choose?

Recommended Posts

Since I won our league last year, I am able to chose which position in the draft to pick. 12 team league, snake draft. Is 1 the best pick, I mean with several stud RB's out there...or should I move down a spot or 2? Please help. All suggestions are welcomed.

I'd take #3 so I got to pick my second back before the first two guys. Top 3 are interchangeable anyways.

I'm currently liking the drafts I'm seeing out of the 5-8 slot. I know that takes away the chance of having the top three backs, but I like the options it's affording with the 2nd pick. The top Qb, a few top quality #1 wideouts, and Westbrook, are all options from this draft range.

Interesting rule w/ winner getting choice of draft position.

I agree that, unless you are really high on 1 of the big 3 then drafting 3rd would be good and just take whoever is left.

Personally, I have been going back and forth on the big 3 so I would either try to pick 3rd or 4th. I am biased as a Redskin homer and would be a big fan of getting Portis at #4 this year.

Otherwise it depends on who you like. If there is a 1st round RB with a lower ADP who you really like and/or you want to make sure you get your 1st choice of WR's then you want a pick toward the back end of the 1st rd.

Other factors include how the others in your league usually/ will draft and your scoring system and rules.

IMO you cant go wrong w/ the #3 spot.

I'm in a PPR league, and feel that taking Peyton in round 2 would be a significant mistake. Our league also has some minor scoring changes which slightly devalue QBs

Personally I'd like anything but 6,7,8 or 9, in a 12 team league. I feel these are the picks where I have to make some tough picks re. backs. 1, 2, and 3 all pick themselves. 4 It's Portis or Barber, 5 is the other. 6-9 I have to make some tough choices re. Lamont, SJax, Rudi, Edge etc. by the time it's pick 10, I think some of the tough decisions have been made for me, plus I get the benefit of a great 2nd round pick.

It also depends how your draft goes. 6 could be an excellent pick if any of the top 5 slip.

Id say you have to go in the top 3....there is no reason not to want to draft one of those Backs....

If you do id draft from whatever spot you think you could get your top back....if you like LJ and think Alexander will go 1st pick the 2nd slot if you think he will go 1st pick the 1st slot...a spot of 2 is worth whoever you like the best for this year..

i much prefer picking back to back so for me i would go 1 or 12

12 if you can live without SA, LJ, or LT - 1 if you cannot

1 (you want your choice of the top 3)

2 (there are two you value equally of the top 3)

3 (who cares)

4. ( I want portis)

5. (I want tiki)

6. (specific RB not of the top 5 or manning.)

7-8-9 flexable with the above options

10/11/12 (maybe one of the above got missed from a homer pick... and you like elite WR's better anyway)

Me too, but I prefer to have the top pick and then go back to back until the last round.

LJ just looks too strong to pass on. I couldn't do it.

I agree that in a redraft, #3 is the way to go.

I didn't suggest you take Peyton ;) I said it was a flexible position because he has been available, along with stud Wr's. I then suggested Westbrook. What post did you read or not read?

I understood your post perfectly, and my post didn't imply that you suggested Peyton was the correct round two pick. You did list it as an option, however, and I was just pointing out that I felt it would be a bad one, should one do that.

I'd take the #1 slot. Picking back to back has some advantages.

You have to take one of the top 3 spots. Too many uncertainties as the RB position this year not to, and I think that a late second round pick will net you just as good of a player as an early second round.

I like being near the ends. Especially If I know the other people in the league.

Near means being like 2 or 3 or in your case 10 or 11. (8 or 9 in a 10 team)

Preferring the 11 or 2 spot in that order. (3 or 10 has too much distance, and too many variable to accurately manager your draft picks.)

By picking near an end, you get 2 near the same value guys. (first it would be 2 near first rounders)

It allows you to take a player you may want, but who may not be worthy of say a 9 to take the guy who was worth on the return.

How you say? (and this is the value) Well this is where knowing your league comes in handy.

If the guy at 12 is a RB heavy kind of guy, but the value is dropping at that point and it might be better to take a QB or WR. Take the best rb available, and then your QB or WR you should have taken will still be there on your return.

(easier this example to refer to position preference than player, but same would apply there too)

Whether if it is a positional preference, NFL team preference or the inversion(aversion) of these, you then get the opportunity to truly manage your pick selections. (if 11, you know only one other owner will be taking 2 guys. So you can short list at 11, take you who would like that will not be there on the return. Assess this with taking them at 11 and may get same player on the return depending upon the other owners preferences.)

Plus you get long periods off between picks, allowing you to better enjoy the food, beverage and heckling of the draft.

if I get any of the top 3 RB and peyton is still there in the 2nd I'd grab peyton no questions asked.

In a 12 team, drafting on value. Peyton shouldn't be there.

You gotta love it. Screw dropping down in the draft order so you can pick in the middle on the way back, so on and so forth.

Take pick 1,2,3 either Larry Johnson, LaDanian, or Shaun Alexander and lick your chops.

Take the guy you want or drop down to 3 to get one of the remaining RB's.

You may wanna decide by who has the best playoff matchups.

Thats my 2 scents anyways

I feel the same...LJ then back-to-backs from then on. Can't get better than that.

When I find out my rankings I hope for a top 4, and I'm happy.

But if I'm picking, give me LJ and the bookend all day. There's so much value in havin that bookend and being able to target players 2 at a time...it's a luxury.

Thanks guys for all of the insight. I'm leaning 1 or 3.

Personally, I couldn't pass on LJ despite the weak drafts I've seen from that spot thus far. This may help you make up your mind.

If you are targeting a top WR in round 2, then the #3 spot will get you a better WR1. Boldin or Chambers project as the best WR available after the main group. At 2.10 you will get a Moss, Fitz, or Holt. In round 3 you will likely have the option of one of several worthy #2 RB or build a fearsome WR tandem with a Boldin/Chambers/Wayne in round 3. The thinking here is that LT or SA will allow you to build other positions as a strength and still come out ahead with someone like Fred Taylor or Ahman Green from later rounds. You may even nab Thomas Jones & Benson for example. Excellent #2 between them.

If you are going RB in round 2, then the 2.12 spot will probably be the same player you'd get at 2.10. Then take Gates or one of the WR above. I wouldn't take RB with the first 3 picks, so be prepared for how the draft will unfold. If you are very lucky, a top WR will fall to you.

Go with the 3rd spot. Most likely you'll end up with LT there considering SA and LJ go 1 and 2. You have to get one of these top studs, if you don't i think its foolish if you pass on it. Just my opinion

No brainer, take #1

I agree. Might as well take the guy you like best of the top 3. Is there a big difference between what you get at #22 and what you get at 24? (maybe there is. I haven't really looked at it too closely) Then you get to pick again at #25.

I would take #2 and grab either SA or LJ. I'm not sold on LT2 being on the same level as those two this year.

Looking at tiers, i would say choose a top 3 pick. If you dont want to go that direction i would say 8-12 and grab 2 rbs in the third tier in my opinion.

The top 3 are so much above tier 2 in my opinion, and yet so close together, that I'd want to pick 3rd.

Take #1 and pick Larry Johnson. He's going to roll in that Chiefs rushing offense. Remember Priest Holmes just a few years ago. LJ will dominate fantasy football like no other. The back up is Dee Brown. I could see LJ getting 200+ yards and 3 or even 4 touchdowns in more than one game.

At 2.12, take R. Moss, C. Chambers, or A. Gates or Julius Jones

and at 3.01 take J. Jones or A.Gates or M. Harrison or A. Boldin

at 4.12 if you're really lucky you can grab Roy Williams

and if you're even luckier you can take D. Foster or T. Brady or D. Driver at 5.01...

(Of course only take 1 or 2 Wide Receivers in the first 5 picks unless maybe if you start 3)

I'd shoot for:

1. Larry Johnson

2. Antonio Gates

3. Chris Chambers

4. Roy Williams

5. Deshaun Foster

6. Drew Bledsoe or Culpepper

7. Frank Gore or Rod Smith

8. Drew Bennett or Matt Jones

(Obviously don't be this inflexible; I'm just throwing out best value for each round and based on filling needs as well just as an example). And the players that are available is obviously dependent on how savy the other owners in your league are or are not.
