ParentalAdvisoryGirl 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Ok.. first off... as someone living with unmedicated bi-polar.. stop trying to make excuses for him if he does have bipolar and doesn't want to be on medications (due to the side affects possibly affecting his playing) there are plenty of cognitive (sp?) therapies he can go through... he CAN help himself I am having lots of trouble understanding how he could be out of the hospital also.. but I guess it goes to show you that money gets things done in america And there was no way that TO actually planned on dying.. most suicide attempts are just pleas for help.. And TO is too much of a narcissistic little ###### to actually end his life... He just wanted some attention.. and he's getting plently of it now... I'm glad I've held onto Glenn... And I'm glad I passed on TO.. that boy is nothing but drama Maybe he should give away all his money.. maybe it's too much stress for him or something I volunteer to take some of it off his hands... I know the weight on his broken finger must be painful
JibbaJabbah 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Bipolar, treatable, yes. Cureable, no. Plus, there are so few meds that are shown to help this condition. They just soften the blows. I blame all of TO's "friends" and "family" for: A. Not helping him make good decisions B. Not having him go to a doctor. C. When someone is depressed, help them. Is this guy all alone or what? TerrySilver 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Classy Philly fans once again show their true colors. there has only been 1 person so far to say that, and you're already bashing eagles fans as a whole. at least i'm proud that this got to 3 pages before anything that could be considered crude comments and personally, i dont blame ghost for not having sympathy. i personally dont have any sympathy for anyone (whether he be a cowboy player, eagle player, musician, actor, average joe, etc) who tries to off themselves, especially a young rich person with lots going for him. why should i? i do hope he does get some help though since he surviveds

Mackgee 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I don't write on these boards very much, however some of you saying some of the heartless stuff and him having a chemical imbalance etc is just plain clueless. Some of you are just as bad as the media reporting this. Also for some of you making jokes about a suicide attempt should just plain go to hell it is not funny regardless of who it involves. Owens is a football player and a human being who also has a family. For the guy saying the philly fans throwing pill bottles on the field thats just pure stupid philadelphia fans for you, people who have never won anything in their life and probably never will. Oh never mind 1980 World series.

BugsyCicada 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I am a Doctor in Pharmacology and a couple of things don't make sense either. #1) Vicodin has 2 components that can be fatal. A) Hydrocodone - a synthetic form of Codeine. Taken in large amounts, once absorbed can cause Respiratory Depression -- he stops breathing -- thus, his stomach had to be pumped BEFORE full absorption of the med. Acetaminophen ( ie TYLENOL) - taken in large amounts can cause your LIVER to shut down. The max amount of Tylenol to be taken in a day is 4000 mg or 4 GRAMS safely. If he took 40 pills that would be equivalent to 20 GRAMS or 20000 MG -- this would be very serious not only at the time of ingesting the pills, but also an issue up to 48 hours later. Thus, his stomach would also have to be pumped or given medicine to adsorb (bind) to the active ingredient. Summarized.... I find it hard to believe (a) he is out of the hospital this AM if the case above is correct ( that the facts reported are correct. Great insight. This assessment would be based on him taking 40 pills. Since he was out of the hospital in less than 24 hrs, you could assume he didnt need any medicative or charcoal treatments to remove the toxic levels from his system. If he did he would be in the hospital for several days. Am I correct on this ? This dismisses the exaggeration of the amount of pills taken, so we can assume the amount is much less, but enough to significantly impact his behavior. Parcells stated that he was having trouble with the medication the week before and it was "making him ill". I wouldnt be suprised if they blame the medication and say he was either 1) mixing medications or 2) mixed alcohol with the medications. How else can you explain his bizzare behavior and statements ?? They are going to try and spin this, but there seems like there is no denying it was an attempt. But they can defend the reasons that lead him to this, instead of painting him as someone with significant clincal issues. Or the issues are real and he pulls himself from the game to deal with them, we get to hear his whole life story that made him the way he is, he gets help and is found to be a courageous spokesperson for mental illness... Whats your gut on how this ends ??

yostevo 0 Posted September 27, 2006 Terrell Owens-WR-Cowboys Sep. 27 - 11:01 am et Clarence Hill of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reports that Terrell Owens' publicist Kim Etheridge claims T.O. was not trying to harm himself. Speaking on ESPN's Cold Pizza, Hill says that Owens didn't have his stomach pumped and didn't vomit. Etheridge doesn't believe Owens took 35 pills, as alluded to in the Dallas police report. Owens is reportedly out of the hospital already. The Cowboys will hold a news conference later Wednesday. Rotoworld
seattle_pt1 0 Posted September 27, 2006 has anyone given thought to the fact that he is out of the hospital may mean he is in a mental facility? Once they stabilize him medically and determine it was a suicide attempt, he may have been placed in a mental facility different from the hospital he was sent to for the initial emergency??? some hospitals don't have on-site psychiatric floors or maybe his handlers wanted him in a more discreet mental facility away from the media attention. so, just because he is out of the hospital it doesn't mean he is not under care of a psychiatrist or in a mental facility receiving care. He is too high profile to be in any facility. Especially after the circus he started in the hospital. They assessed him at the hospital, made sure he was physically okay and then T.O's people (lawyers, agents, whoe ever else) signed a release and documented that he is going to get treated by a private clinician. Now the cover up begins... do they say the medication made him act this way? do they say he mixed the meds with alcohol and wasnt acting normal? or do they come clean and say he has a mental illness ? He has to answer for his statements and behavior and it has to make sense. The truth would be the best route, but then it would depend if he wants to get back on the field soon, or wants to take of a serious problem if one exists. Whats you gut on how this is handled ? JibbaJabbah 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I'll never forget Philly fan standing and cheering as Michael Irvin layed motionless on the turf. Philadelphia is the armpit of America. I was at that game. Irving had actually came over to the fans and was cursing out one fan and taunting others during pregame. Even Irving admitted that he was causing problems at the vet that day. At one point security told the dallas bench to keep their players on the sideline. That is why people at the vet cheered. Not a good reason, but look at the reaction to Owens situation from people outside of philly. It is very similar. Oh, and who were the fans throwing iceballs at the coaches and actually hurt somebody. NY.

GobbleDog 996 Posted September 27, 2006 I just can't picture TO admiting during his next press conference that this was a suicide attempt, whether it was or not. I mean, suicide attempts seem embarressing. People who attempt suicide are generally thought of as whack jobs, freaks, or people who can't handle pressure, etc... In his mind and in others, he's "Mr. Terrel Owens - The Greatest WR to ever live". Confirming that it was a suicide attempt would turn him into "Terrel Owens - The Depressed Nut Job". No way he admits to that. He'll say the "suicide" report was just a miscommunication or something.

josh wiley 58 Posted September 27, 2006 as much as i feel bad for his mental state, commiting or attempting to commit suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness. goes along with his m.o. seriously how bad are his problems compared to other people's problems. he seems to have a very warped perception of reality. if you think about it, any of the reasons he would have for being depressed have all been brought on by himself. i hope this will be a wake up call for him and maybe he will begin to understand how precious life is. who knows, in the process he may become a good teammate. football_scooter 0 Posted September 27, 2006 I just listened to the Dallas police on the Tony Bruno show: Owens was treated for a medical condition, not a criminal offense. Attempted suicide is a crime, and the police denied that this was the situation. He remains in the hospital, where he continues to receive treatment, so reports of his release were false. The report that this was an attempted suicide, and all related information (paramedic pulling 2 pills from his mouth, Owens saying he tried to harm himself, etc) were 100% attributed to the paramedic, NOT the Dallas police as previously reported. This sounds like a non-issue. Owens had a bad reaction to the pain meds. It happens. When I had surgery I stopped taking Vicoden because it made me extremely anxious. I could handle the pain far more easily than the constipation, nausea and anxiety. So I can understand if Owens had a negative reaction. Everyone's physiology is different and we all react differently to medication. I will reserve judgement until the dust settles. I'd say there's still a 40-60% chance that he plays in Tenn this week. Yer mom 2 Posted September 27, 2006 Wow. Didn't take long for actual video to come out . . . Friggin hilarious!!! Whatever the truth ends up being, this is a guy who called his QB gay publicly, criticized the hell out of Garcias play, then sat with him at breakfast during a morning before practice/game (cant remember) and started crying before they even really got into what TO had said about Garcia. TO just sobbed and kept apologizing. We all remember the 1998 4th and goal where Stevie fell down, picked himself up and threw one down the middle to TO with no time left to FINALLY beat friggin Brett Favre and go on to the playoffs.......what did "the player" do........he balled his way into Mariuccis arms!!! UNREAL if his unstability wasnt addressed along time ago as a serious problem, the symptoms have been clearly surfaced for quite some time!!! I really hope he is OK though

Actually, the police said quite a bit. they clarified that Owens was not released, as reported. They confirmed that the report of attempted suicide and claims of Owens saying he intended to hurt himself which had both been attributed to the police were in fact from the paramedic. Perhaps if you learned to read, and subsequently improved your comprehension skills, you'd get a lot more out of this forum. No wonder you get nothing from my opinion - you can't comprehend it.
