Aside from your wife, do you have a house keeper?

Recommended Posts

I am looking into having someone clean our house bi-weekly.

Any insights?

Discuss.

And before you start in with the laziness and nagging, it was my HUSBAND that suggested this.

I've been considering this myself for quite a while. I'll admit it. I'm lazy. But I don't know if I like the idea of someone else rummaging through the house every couple weeks. I'm looking forward to the responses.

Yes, bi-weekly. $60 per visit and yes, they are legal AFAIK, although I could really give a sheiet if she wasn't.

We hired her mostly for the big jobs (oven, showers/tubs, dusting fans, fridge, etc.) rather than day to day stuff, although a full house cleaning is included every visit.

We clean several times a week ourselves, including dusting, vacumn, general straightening and the like, but the "deep clean" is worth the money and time it saves us. Never had any desire to have a maid prior to the little one running around.

We both work full time so neither of us wants to scrub toilets or vacum when we get home or on the weekends, so we have a Brazilian woman come in every week. $70 per week. Frankly, she doesn't always do the best job, but she's trustworthy, so I don't have to worry about the fact that she has a key to our place and knows we aren't around most days.

not married but I have a girl come in every other week. used to pay her 60 bucks but just gave her a raise to 75. when you interview, mention that you had to let someone go bc they stole from you. that will keep them on their toes. also many will come in and do a great job the first couple times then begin to half arse it. when my current on started that I called her to the carpet on it. I should have said something about it before she started bc that is why i let the last one go. after I had the talk she has been great, hence the raise.

We used to have two ladies clean biweekly, but they ended up retiring and we never replaced them.

The best thing about it is it makes you pick up all of the shiot that got tossed around for two weeks. So not only is your house clean of dirt, it is clear of clutter.

Heck, maybe we should hire someone again. :dunno:

We looked at a couple of services..and found the too expensive really.

So...we hired my wife's mother. And that has worked out well. She's retired, looking for something to do, and actually likes this crap.

$25/week. :dunno:

I have so many expensive electronics and computer related things in my house, I wouldn't notice of most of them were taken until I needed them. I don't think I could ever trust a stranger with all that laying around.

I'm considering having 2 bi women clean up me and

each other in my house weekly, and don't really care what it costs.

I know I know!! It was HER call!!!! And quite honestly, any more than that and I would say no thanks.

And believe me, shes no professional, so it is worth about $25/week.

I've wanted one seriously. I get so busy with my business, my son, my son has friends over during the weekend a lot, and AA that the last thing I want to do is some deep cleaning. I barely get a chance to just sit and relax so it would be nice to be able to come home to a clean house and not have to worry about cleaning before I got back to more work at night. :dunno:

You can get cleaners who are licensed and bonded, which while not guaranteeing the safety of your stuff, means at least they've passed some security screening.

That was my husband's comment as well. I work full time, and evenings are packed, and he doesn't want us to spend our weekends cleaning and all of that. Vacuuming and laundry aren't problems, but getting in the bathrooms/toilets/showers and all of that other stuff is tough. This will make it easier, and plus, I work from home Fridays, so I plan on being home when the cleaning people come.

Nothing like showing your children that the easy way out of work is to pay someone else to do it. Good job parents!

We have a messican woman do it and i have no idea if she's legal or not. We use to have a white woman do it before and i have no idea whether she was legal or not. I don't know why she stopped but she had a key to the house or we would leave one hiding somewhere so she could use it, and then put it back. But yea, with the new one, someone is usually home when she cleans. Now that my moms parents are on an extended visit from india, they're almost always home when she cleans.

She use to come bi-weekly, but now its once a month. She does the big stuff cleaning. Bathrooms, kitchen, vacuuming, things like that. My mom hired her because she can't stand having 3 boys to clean after. My older brother isn't that bad, but me and my little brother are pigs. I think we use to pay $50 every two weeks, but now its like $75 for once a month.

I had a lady come in to clean my house just one time several years ago. She charged us $125.00 but we had a pretty big house then and it included cleaning our ceramic floors (to include the grout in between each tile). I used to get down on my hands and knees and clean each tile and the grout around each 12" tile from the front door all the way through the hallways, bathrooms, kitchen and dining room. (All day job... I would do it maybe once every 6 months). But damn it looked good when it was done! Anyway, she did a good job but was very slow and was actually at our house for a good 8 hours that day! I never called her back and just continued doing it myself.

Now that I'm single, a housekeeper is definitely not a convenience that fits into my budget. But that's okay since I am pretty tidy anyways and don't mind doing the job myself.

For me, a lot of my days during the week are booked with on site meetings with clients so all of my actual work has to be done at night and on the weekends. Which sucks, but that's just the way it goes I guess. Couple that with AA and my son and there isn't much time left anywhere so I can totally see where you're coming from.

Plus, you having a couple kids at home and one very young one, I can see where your husband is coming from totally.

My kids are 4 and 1.

They are more likely to create messes than to help clean them up.

That's what's holding me up too. It doesn't fit nicely into my budget right now. I just keep thinking that there are so many other things to spend my money on than having someone do a job that I can do myself. But damn it would be nice to have help.

BTW - ygm.

Ditto.

Other than the fact that we had a maid even when we lived in an apartment.

Yes, we are lazy and spoiled. Sue me.

We have a service come in once a week and have been mostly satisfied.I don't have to worry about theft either because we live in a 2 story metal building and our business offices are on the first floor.

Like others have said it's well worth it with the time we save plus my mrs isn't much on housecleaning so it keeps us both happy.

I have this sexy lil mexy come in once every 45-60 days for $125 and worth every penny. She cleans it to the point where you could eat off of the carpet in the corner behind the bed. She moves EVERY item I have just a few inches indicating that it was got to and dusted/cleaned, which was a bit concerning at first because my porn stack, pot paraphernalia, and the like were all discovered. Then I realized who gives a fock, ill make her suck my cack or call La Migra. I look forward to sharing the video.

I have one that comes in every two weeks, my apartment is pretty clean anyway, but she does a deep cleaning that I don't like to do. Makes things a lot easier, and she charges about forty bucks a time. No problem at all.

Floppy cans, she's about 50 years old. I'm sure kozmiq might like a crack at her though.

Housekeeper was here today. $50 every other week. Tried two others before settling on her.

Wife works; weekends are too short to spend cleaning.

As someone else mentioned, there's nothing better than hiring a housekeeper to make sure you pick up your clutter. Funny that I don't mind her scrubbing the toilets, but wouldn't think of having dishes in the sink or a messy desk.
