50 Cent vs. Kanye West

Recommended Posts

Two of the mainstream's biggest fish face-off on the charts today

"F*** this is rap, and this is hip-hop; it came from the same place," Del the Funky Homosapien stated on his 1998 release, "Future Development." Fast forward nine years, and we see a situation that clearly contradicts the prolific rapper's proclamation. Today, two albums have been released that set the boundaries of the two sub-genres. Kanye West and 50 Cent are both dropping their third releases on the same day. West's "Graduation" defines hip-hop, while 50's "Curtis" exemplifies a rap album.

As usual with big releases such as these, the appropriate amount of hype has been created. Most of it because of 50's promise, though later recanted, that if West's album sold more than his, 50 would stop performing and recording music as a solo artist. Both of their larger-than-life egos have also done their part to create a buzz.

Most of this hype can be chalked up to good public relations work, in that both West and 50's parent company is Universal Music Group. This rivalry guarantees a huge boost in album sales, which means more money for Universal. Even if this is all a plan to increase both artist's sales, it gives us an opportunity to find out what the American music

I say we settle this with a BATTLE TO THE DEATH! Not record sales.

I can't stand Kanye. He is such a baby. He whines about everything he can and anything that happens to him is always because he is black. Not because he sucks.

I really don't like Kanye the person at all, he seems like a total d1ck. But, I love Gold Digger and could listen to it over and over.

I've always liked 50's music, as I'm sure middle 30's white guys is a demographic he's catering to!

I think Kanye just tries too hard to be an "artist" or something. I liked him alot but after Late Registration, he sorta fell out of favor with me and seemed too fake. 50 has that smooth slurred speech, makes for some badass hooks.

I've hated 50 for a while now. I mean, after he went after ja rule for doing all those R and B songs, now he's doing the same thing. He's now what ja rule use to be. He's doing all kinds of gay ###### just like ja did.

I've hated kanye for a while now too, but some of his music is good. At first i wouldn't even like a song by him no matter what because i hated him so much but eventually his music won me over. I don't like his gay pop ###### like gold digger, but diamonds are forver was bad ass. Get em high off of his first album was pretty good too. That song he did with the maroon 5 guy was cool too.

Kanye is a bad ass producer so that helps.

I agree with everyone who says he comes off as a douche. Who saw him on punked? Pair-ree.. i gotta go to pair-ree. Call it paris like everyone else ######.

Publicity stunt or not, 50 was completely outclassed by Kanye. 50's album isn't very good while Kanye's is incredible. 50's sucked since GRODT and Kanye recovered nicely from his second album which I didn't like very much at all. I was actually looking more forward to Curtis than I was Graduation, but after hearing both, it's not even close...KANYE.

50 doesn't care about his music anymore. I'm a big 50 fan too but overall, I was greatly disappointed. Of course the album has its moments, but he's nothing like what he used to be.

Ya know what is a great indication that hip-hop is on the decline?- The fact that 2Pac's latest CD, released last winter (and 11 years after he passed), is better than both of these CDs...

It all a publicity stunt, 50's CD leaked a few days before and they actually called the competition off, so, when they are approached if 50 will retire(since Kanye is owning him in sales) they will have writing of how they called it off because 50s CD leaked before.

BTW, best rapper ever is Pac, followed by Dre and/or Biggie...then Chuck D. Best rapper today is Ludicris.....HTH.

Good list for the most part.

Don't forget the Fresh Prince though.

No seriously, Snoop is better than Ludacris.

Do either have nice singing voices?

Can either play a musical instrument?

Are either great, or even good, dancers?

Please explain to me how they are 'talented'? They seem to be glorified story tellers who use a computer to generate a backbeat.

Dima a dozen.

Meh, Snoop back in the 90s was a top knotch rapper, especially when he was with Dre, him and Dre made an unbelievable rapping duo back in the early 90s. However, his recent stuff is just kinda meh, though he is more into acting and other type of appearences than he is into producing music anymore, same with Ice Cube who was also a top knotch rapper back in the day, especially with NWA, though even a couple of his solo albums right after NWA were good sh1t....but Ice Cube is probably the best rapper turned actor.

Of course, i meant excluding Will, Will Smith is and really has always been mainly an actor though, IMO. Yeah, Will Smith is the best musical artist turned anything period, the Fresh Prince is just the man...

Anybody who calls Dre the second or third best rapper has got to be the crackerest of crackers. If you're talkin producers, yea, Dre is probably the best, but when it comes to rapping he's terrible.

My favorite rapper has been Jay-Z and i always pretend kingdom come never happened. Terrible album. Other than that, i like a few people nobody has probably heard of. Dead Prez is sick. The coup is a bad ass band with funky beats that white people would probably get jiggy with.

But, best rapper right now has gotta be Immortal Technique. He hasn't released an album in a longgg time so his songs aren't as relevant anymore, but he released an album after 9-11 and its ridiculous good. There were so many times where i had to look ###### up to see what he was talkin about. "Condeliza Rise is just a new age Sally Hemmings." I had to google that one. But yea, the 4th branch (talkin about the media) and bin laden are really good songs too.

And when white guys want opinions about anything actually important in life, we always go to black people. :pointstosky:
