McNabb says black QBs criticized more than white QBs

Recommended Posts

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3025308

Brown then asks if the media is tougher on him than on white quarterbacks such as Carson Palmer and Peyton Manning.

"Let me start by saying I love those guys," McNabb tells HBO. "But they don't get criticized as much as we do. They don't."

Don't tell this to Joey Harrington or Rex Grossman.

I lost all respect for McNabb when I heard an interview this offseason before the draft and they asked him what the Eagles need. One thing he said was they need to draft a QB for depth/backup. Then they go and do it and he bashes the Eagles. Lame duck QB.

Or Eli or Pennington or David Carr or Delhomme or Bledsoe or the beating Brees will take if the Saints don't turn it around. Give me a break.

I love the fact he is singling out palmer and manning. What the hell could we possibly critizie them for. Throwign too many TD's and not givign the RB a chance to score for our fantasy teams.

Apparently the race issue will never die in this country. He probably means living in Philly where everyone gets booed is starting to get to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he is playing for another team next season. For those of you that actually watched the game, Barkley said they booed him after 8 all star appearances. Maybe it just the city you live in Donovan.

It's no secret that Donovan McNabb has very little class. He or his family constantly whine about a bunch of issues to the media and behind closed doors. He kept taking shots at Terrell Owens even when unprovoked after Owens left the team, and has talked sh!t about the Philly fans on several occasions.

He still brings up being booed at the draft. For fock's sake, the fans were booing not taking Ricky Williams. And how long ago was that? I wish I could go back in time and be at that draft so I could throw some batteries at his pudding head. But nope, it's always been about Donovan's ego. Donovan was never as miserable as when TO came to town and it became TO's team. Donovan couldn't wait for Owens to leave so that it became his team again.

If there is any justice, Donovan McNabb will never be considered for the Hall of Fame.

How could he be considered for the HOF, he hasn't won anything and though his numbers are good they aren't HOF numbers. For the Philly homers out there. How does everyone feel about McNabb in Philly. It seems like after this year its bye bye McNabb and hello Kolb. I am glad that we don't have a whining QB in Pittsburgh, but I do sometimes question Ben's arrogance.

The iggles should have kept T.O. and Garcia and let McNabb go.

McNafro is such a whiner and something of a racist with these comments. Here's a tip buddy - PLAY BETTER AND YOU WON'T GET CRITICIZED!!!

When he took the team to the superbowl he was the toast of the town. He got criticized for being out of shape when he got to the Superbowl and was puking in the huddle. The man everyone in Philly hates TO was playing his ass off on a broken leg against doctor's orders and he got run out of town on a rail. I agree - the Eagles would have been smarter to deal McNabb, and keep TO & Garcia (even though they hate each other too...lol)

McNabb gets criticized when he plays atrociously, as he did last night. Like that ball that should have been an EASY TD to Curtis that sailed 5 yards wide right. Or the play right before that one where he threw the ball into the ground at nobody. Yeah - Palmer and Manning make that pass all the time - NOT!

McNabb looked like sh!t last night against a fair to midland WASH defense, and the game was in Philly. That whiney b!tch thinks he can go put up a stinker at home in a loss to the Redskins and somehow not take criticism?

This sounds like a pre-emptive strike. The race card has been played, folks. He's put everyone on notice - to the media & fans: "if you criticize me for my poor performance(s) then you are racist."

What a tool.

you know, it just occurred to me - wasn't it McNabb who got Rush Limbaugh fired for saying, "the NFL is desirous for a black QB to do well"?

Well which is it D-McNasty? Is the sport overly critical of a black man, or are they pushing too hard to promote the black man? You can't have both, asshat.

remember last year when we were having outright wars here about McNabb and the Eagles? there were eagles fans all over this board. now a lot of them have left.

i was stating this stuff last year. i can't stand mcnabb. he totally rubs me the wrong way. and that stupid response he gives is not only another pathetic excuse.......it's racist. hell no, you can't have it both ways.

this guy's an idiot and the faster philly cans him for Kolb, the better for philly. the donovan experiment is over. i hope to hell the packers don't go after mcnabb to follow favre.

This is one side of McNabb that I really don't like. He has a thin skin and is a complete whiner. Perhaps if he watches the tape of last night's game he'll think about the reality that is the criticism he receives.

I can also tell you that, as a lifelong fan of the Eagles, it matters not what color you are - if you suck, even for a one quarter of one game the fans will be all over your ass.

Also, flying in the face of his claims, Randall Cunningham, who was exciting to watch play throughout his career in Philadelphia, continues to be a beloved member of the sports alumni even though he probably doesn't deserve the accolades he still gets.

If McNabb spent less time making himself a lightning rod of controversy and more time figuring out how to stop dirting and sailing passes - the level of criticism against him will drop substantially.

Totally agree - the more passes he throws at the feet of his receivers, the more criticism he will take. And instead of manning up and doing the QB equivelent of "my bad" he plays the race card as a pre-emptive strike. I've seen a lot of QBs come out after a game like that and just say, "I didn't get the job dowe when the game was on the line. We'll do better next time - this is on me." - With McNabb I've never heard that - it's always someone else's fault. He was sick, or his WR made him mad, or whatever other excuse he can come up with.

I'd love nothing more than for Jason Whitlock to rip him to shreds - after all, he's the only reporter immune from the race card and not afraid of offending the black community by keeping it real.

First off he's right about being criticized more. I don't hear anyone bashing Brees or Bulger, yet they suck. Culpepper was torn apart with misleading information like he's not accurate. Do people even check the stats when they state or type such stupid stuff.

He didn't bash the Eagles when they drafted Kolb. All he said was that he was surprised.

Wow. Dude's coming back from ACL tear/surgery, has two bad games (receivers didn't help either) and he gets all this hate. C'mon Philly, all he did was take you to 4 NFC Championships and win one and took you to the Super Bowl. Also 5 pro-bowls. And off the chart statistics most every year.

I hope he leaves Philly and you never make the playoffs again, focking losers.

I think he's great. If he has sucky games, I'll call it that way. I don't care if he's hurt or not. If you're hurt and you have a sucky game - you've had a sucky game.

Pretty simple concept.

Also 5 pro-bowls.

Pro Bowl appearances are pure popularity contest. Donovan McNabb one season was dead last in the NFC in nearly every major passing category, and close if not dead last in the NFL, and still made the Pro Bowl. This is merely one example of the ridiculous voting system and the dopey voters.

I give zero consideration to Pro Bowl appearances.

McNabb didn't get Limbaugh fired, any more than the Rutgers women got Imus fired. In fact, McNabb commented very sparingly on the Limbaugh situation. ESPN hired him, ESPN fired him. Did they do so because of pressure from outside forces? Probably. But McNabb wasn't one of those forces.

You hate the guy. We get it. Isn't it funny how critique of his play on these boards continually involves the use of racial slurs, yet the two are unrelated, right? Nobody seems to feel the need to point out Joey Straight Hair-rington's race when saying he sucks.

I'm a white guy. Have been since birth. Spent years experiencing reverse racism from some people as the only white on many a basketball team. Despite that experience, if you can't see that black stars/celebs in mainstream American culture are held to a harsher standard, you're a fool. Just like many in this country and across the world, your ignorant fear and resentment of the big, scary black man makes your opinion on this and other matters involving race not only irrelevant, but sadly pathetic.

Wow - way to project something that's 100% not true. McNabb is a QB that I've benefitted from and believed in for years. I don't "hate" him in the slightest. I used to respect him more than I do after he made these idiotic comments, and last I checked it's my right to have that opinion based on what I saw as a pathetic excuse instead of owning up to his own suckiness.

You then accuse me off-handidly of being a racist? That's funny - I was pointing out how McNabb is a racist with these comments - "isn't it funny" how when a BLACK QB comes out and whines about how he's criticized for being a BLACK QB, and that even when he's playing horribly that no one can call him on the idiocy of that RACIST statement? He's both accusing everyone of being racist and as I previously stated making a pre-emptive strike so that any time anyone criticizes him now, some dolt like you steps up and calls his critics "racist".

Way to be "that guy" - McNabb suckered you perfectly.

As for this bit that you conveniently went back and edited out:

Just like many in this country and across the world, your ignorant fear and resentment of the big, scary black man makes your opinion on this and other matters involving race not only irrelevant, but sadly pathetic.

You are so far off base it's sickening. You make this statement as though you know me or what I'm about? did you know that a black guy married my 1st cousin, and that we vacation together every year and that I'm his child's godfather? No - I bet you didn't. Way to flap your trap and call one of the most racially tollerant people you will ever meet a racist. Yeah, I'm sadly pathetic because I fear and resent the big scary black man - that's why I paid for my godchild's trip to Disneyland last year you focking moron.

What's "sadly pathetic" is a person who makes a snap judgement about a person and calls them out for being a racist because they're critical of a QB who came out and basically accussed the whole world of racism because he can't handle being criticized for his poor on field play.

You should just take a month off of posting after embarrasing yourself like this.

It will be interesting to see Tom Jackson's reaction to this racist crap. I mean after ESPN tossed Limbaugh out on his arse, TJ went on and on with tears in eyes ripping Limbaugh. Let's see if he has the guts to rip McNabb for this shite. Hopefully, someone who watches ESPN will let us know because I no longer watch ESPN's pregame show.

 I say this every year about this guy the biggest  in the entire league.

He is doing this because he knows he can't run anymore. He always had trouble hitting the short pass just not accurate enough.

I don't want to see the guy hurt but he always starts crap when things are not going right. He needs to get his head in the game.

Did you see him walking out the tunnel last night what was all that junk. Looked like a peacock. Be a leader stop all the

As far as the Rush comments what I remember Donovan said he did not want to get caught up in that just wanted to play football. Yet every chance he gets now he speaks out and stirs it up himself.

Philly messed up. Garcia was leading that team. Donovan coming off and knee injury and they did not pay him.

Does anybody think that if Garcia starts both of those first two games the Eagles are not 2 and 0.

Thats the same thing I thought of when I heard this. When you play to the level of Palmer or Manning trust me no one will criticize you. Not to mention that manning was criticized all the time leading up to last year about not being able to win the big game from college to his time in the pros. I lost aany respect for McNabb after hearing that. It just goes to show that when blacks feel threatened they fall back on the time tested race card.

May or may not be on topic...

I fully support the right to make controversial remarks. If someone is offended, too bad. People in this country do not have the right to not be offended. You can not force people be nice. These censors can go screw.

While Limbaugh made somewhat controversial remarks, ESPN fired him, which is a shame. His job was to stir things up. ESPN is a gutless faggity network.

McNabb makes controversial remarks, and nothing will happen to him. Which is good. I support nothing happening. He has to right to say what he wants, whether I agree with him or not, without repercussions.

Don Imus was joking around, and ended up fired. Satire of public figures is legally protected. Imus had raised something like 50 million dollars for charities. But he was a racist and a bad guy. Al Sharpton, drug dealer and convicted felon was the champion of justice. And the Rutger's players, after accepting the Imus apology, are finally filing law suits. DL Hughley on The Tonight Show called the Rutgers basketball team the "ugliest women I've ever seen". :crickets: This whole situation is a tragedy.

Now, the media is giving grief to that Shelly Duncan, Yankee, for signing an autograph for a 10 year old Boston Red Sox fan with "Red Sox suck!!!" Funniest thing I've heard in a while. That kid and his parents can go fock themselves. It was a joke. Lighten up.

Dam, this country sucks. ;)

For the most part yes. I hate to say it and I don't want to get into a huge racial arguement here but when it comes down to it if things don't go their way the average black is going to to play the race card. The man is holding them down, they are getting less because of their color, they are getting sh!t on because of their color. Whaaaaa whhhhaaaaaaa. Sorry man but that has been my experiance.

As long as our Government classifies people by race and gives one race an advantage over another there will be racism in this country. Don’t blame the average citizen for this blame our leaders. This is the America they created all we can do is react to it.
