The Official "I hate Boston sports teams" thread

Recommended Posts

Actually, no, I'm the "fvckhead that hates other fvckheads" kind of fan. I'm into friendly rivalry and banter, not kissing my Brady poster and doing the superior dance all over the bored. I'm just sick of Patriots this, Patriots that to the point that I'm openly rooting for EVERYBODY that faces them and almost hoping for a Brady injury so they can see what life is like without their savior (although in all honesty, I don't wish that on anybody, but I do think about it sometimes).

"Friendly rivalry and banter?" WTF. Hey assshole, its okay to really get into a sports rivalry and hate the other team and their fans. You don't have to treat it like the time your boyfriend broke up with you at the wine shop.

Your sick of the Patriots, so what. I guarantee the real fans of all of those teams you "root" for week to week to beat the Patriots are way more disgusted with you for being some assshole fake fan than any Patriots fan would ever be.

?? because i defend my team and it's (hardcore) fans. get over yourself. these threads about not liking certain teams, or their fans, are fuckkin lame.

i like my name. i hate the 49ers. but i respect their organization. one of the best pro sports teams in existence. it's called a rivalry.

No, because you can't answer without using profanity. It says allot about a person.

and the bolded comment make absolutely no sense. The 49ers is the name of the organization.

I don't hate their teams...

their fans...thats another story.

They whined and whined about Yankee fans...but have become a whole different beast...and its worse than the Yankee fan.

I agree with you almost 100%, except that I HATE their teams. Buck Foston. I am still waiting for the Red Sox plane to fall out of the sky!

The way I see it ...the rest of the country enjoyed seeing our pain year after year...seeing we had hope...and faith in teams that let us down...now that we have teams that are winning championships nobody can laugh at us Boston fans. I tell you one thing though...the fact that it pisses everyone off that we are sooooooooo good,,,it just feeds our fire...so keep on posting...I'm glad you all hate us....we wouldn't want it any other way.....Try to hate us even more..........

i go back and forth with the Seahawks fans all the time, and it's all in fun. and i'm not sure how it makes me an assshole for rooting against a team i don't like much and their fans even less, it doesn't change my loyalty to my team in the slightest. and i'm pretty sure that you in your eternal wisdom are just slightly off base in how fans of teams playing the pats feel about me rooting for their guys. but hey tough guy, why dontcha come on down to texas and instead of wine i'll buy us a few beers and show you my point of view?

Here is the gist of my hatred:

1. I'm really tired of the Patriots and hearing about their "greatness" and the "genius" of the Coach. In my book, they're all cheaters. And I don't give a crap right now how good he is, I dislike Randy Moss for being a sandbagging POS who wined his way onto a better team. You shouldn't get rewarded for being a jackass, sorry.

2. I had to grow up watching the Celtics and the Lakers, every friggin weekend for like 15 yrs, and I'm from Texas. I hate being force fed. And it kills me now watching the the Celts run the early table in a clearly inferior conference, now sporting 2 players who clearly sandbagged their last season on their old teams.

3. A few years ago I rooted for the Sox to "break the curse". Now I'm pretty much sick of them too. Baseball sucks, nobody should be able to buy a championship.

4. Lastly, and more importantly, there's nobody, NOBODY, more annoying than the bandwagon hopping fans that follow these teams. I hate that ESPN headquarters are so close to them and it's obvious that ESPN has their lips firmly planted on the Boston sports teams asses.

Its really tiring hearing everyone hate on BeanTown..... Let's pay some respect where its due.... the Pats are great and they ARE coached by a genius..... and i'll leave it at that....

As for the whole Red Sox/Yankees thing, i was happy to see the red Sox pony up the dough and take down the evil empire.... I mean until baseball does something about the problems going on there, any big market can do the same if they wanted to.... the Sox just finally got tired and paid the bucks... and what do you know.... 2 WS in 4 years... ..... OK so what, I'm a Stankee Hater

Signed...... A yankees hater, and a happy Browns fan that finally has an offensive line

Yeah, the chowds can be obnoxious blowhards at times. But I got no problems. As an old school guy, I know that beantown has always possesed a culture defined by losing. The overriding impression I've gotten through the years is one of envy and inadequacy, especially when it came to being compared to cities like NYC and DC.

As for the sports teams? C'mon, who REALLY cared about the Pats before they started winning? That franchise was on the verge of moving to Hartford and nobody gave a rat's ass.

The Celts? Even in their glory days they had their demons. Andrew Toney (the original Boston Strangler) in the 82 Eastern Conference Finals. Kareem running down the parquet floor in 85, pumping his fists in the air after nailing a 20 foot skyhook to ice the series. Aeurbach sitting there watching dejectedly, his stale stogie hanging in his mouth. Magic, with the Baby Hook over McHale and the Chief in Game Four of the 87 series...

And who can forget the lovable Sox? Forget Billy Buckner (who had 120 RBI's for them that year), whenever I get depressed I just pop in an old VHS tape of Bucky Dent's blast over the Green Monster off Mike Torres in the one game playoff of 78.

Of course there's always the hints of racism in Beantown sports history (the KKK like sheets that fans wore depicting "Ghosts of Celtic's Past" during Game 7 of the 82 Eastern Conference Finals, or the unprecedented SEVEN white players who comprised that great 86 team, or even Jim Rice's problems.) There's the INSUFFERABLE chowd media (see Curt Schilling for that one...)

Oh yes, what a sports town. How do you like THOSE apples? AAAHHHHH!!!

This is what I don't understand...pretty much the entire country, minus NYC, was behind the Red Sox during their world series run a few years back. Where does this inferiority complex come from?

I, being part of that "rest of the country", never thought twice about Boston or their teams. I could care a whole lot less about you, or your city, and I took no joy in seeing your teams lose. I was rooting for my teams.

I liked the Red Sox a lot before and up to 2004 when they "did" the Yankees. Since then they've turned into the Yankees 2 so it's hard to like them anymore.

I have friends that live in Boston and they say most Patriots fans didn't exist before 2001. The city always was a Red Sox city but latched on to the Pats only b/c they were winning. That's not the case with all Pats fans, but a lot of them.

That would happen in any city. New York is a basball town as well, but when the Giants or Knicks are winning they will be the main story, plain and simple. Its not like Boston abandoned the Red Sox once the Pats started winning or that they totally ignored the Pats when they were losing. In any town more and more people will come out of the woodwork once a team gains success.

I'm a Yankees fan and a Jets fan so I have every reason to bury the people of Boston, but you know what?, I say let them boast now. Why shouldn't they? Isn't that what sports rivalries are all about, backing your team through thick and thin and talking smack when you have superiority?

As a long time Jets season ticket holder, I can assure you that Pats fans existed prior to 2001. Are they more boisterous now? Of course.

Yankee fans were unmerciless when the Sox were second fiddle. Its part of sports. Deal with it. I can accept it that they now have bragging rights. It's what makes the rivalry fun. Only a true crazy person would actually "HATE" other fans.

All of the Pats threads are getting tiresome now. The "love" and the "hate". Just accept it for what it is. The Pats are top dogs right now and we will be over-run by bandwagoners, but there are still old timers in the mix as well.

If you want to take solace, just think how much sweeter it will be when the Pats finally lose.

This thread is already getting more attention then it deserves.

Boston might be on a roll now, but as for body of work it is just as average as Iowa. (No offense to the wonderful people of Iowa)

Your friends are exaggerating. You are more accurate when you say "a lot of them", but it's nowhere near "most."

Hey guys. Definitely a thread I'd like to add to. I have lived in Southeastern MA for all my life. I am a lifelong Yankees fan. I try not to be obnoxious as I know I am in enemy territory. But Red Sox/Boston fans, they make me puke. You listen to the talk radio - unbelievable. They say there are a lot of institutions of higher leaning in Boston. Apparently attending one forbids you from calling into the local sports radio station because I cannot believe the ignorant, bigoted crap I hear every day. these fans suck entirely. When the Pats won the Super Bowl, what did the crowd chant at the rally? Yankees Suck. News flash, you're focusing on the wrong sport. But that is the kind of fans you are dealing with.

I am a NYG fan in the NFC and a Pats fan in the AFC. If they play each other I cheer for the home team. I live about 10 miles from Foxboro and consider myself part of Patriot Nation. Also one more caveat - I cant believe how sick the national media has gotten over this belichick thing. Like nobody saw the combo of Brady-to-Moss going to the moon. Of course you cant stop this passing attack! 1) Brady 2) Moss, 3) (when healthy) big Ben at tight end. If you put a backer on Ben and double cover Moss, well, there's Welker. Plus they occasionally run the ball :shocking:. So that has nothing to do with Belichick being some kind of overcompetitive doosh. It has everything to do with having the right tools (finally) on offense.

But with that stated, I cant even stand to listen to family or coworkers talk about the team this year. First of all you cant talk about the Pats you have to talk about how awesome the Red Sox is. Fock 'em. The team is on fire and staring in December we can have the 16-0 watch. But they have been talking about it since the Colts game. I hate that. Not for the Jinx but for the arrogance. Anyone remember the Bears? Looked unstoppable until that Monday Night. Or how about the Colts more recently? The other topic du jour is how everyone has it in for the Pats. Yes I think the national media has gone overboard but for christ's sakes people get over it, everyone has a beef with New England, get over it. We're winning aren't we???? Isn't that the best revenge? But on and on it goes. "I cant believe how unfair they're being" "I cant believe they are challenging our Super Bowls" hey guess what, when you make it to the top, you're going to have to deal with jealousy. Ain't nobody jealous of the Dolphins or Rams. They're jealous of us. TAKE IT AS A COMPLIMENT but of course, its a persecution complex.

I don't talk about the Bruins. As long as Jacobs owns the team, the nearest hockey franchises are the Canadiens, Isles and Rangers. There is no NHL team in New England.

And yes, while I'm not the biggest fan of Basketball I do cheer for the Celts and this is like emerging from the wilderness. So it does feel good but it is only November so its a long season.

AAAARRRGGGHHHH there I feel much better. Oh how I despise the troglodyte Boston sports fans.

I live in the Boston area, but my favorite football teams are the NY Giants and Buffalo Bills (I grew up in NY). My thoughts are as follows:

2004 Sox - You can't believe how INSANE it was around here. What - 3 MILLION people attended the World Series parade?!?

2007 Sox - I don't get people b!tching about the Sox "buying" a World Series. They almost lost in the ALCS, remember?!? And it isn't like they've been trying to get rid of Manny the past TWO years?!? Lowell saved their a%% when Ortiz / Manny were out, plain and simple.

2007 Pats - Get used to it. ALL BELICHICK NEEDED WAS "VIDEOGATE." This team will go 19-0, and tell Shula to sick his asterisk up his a%%.

2007 Celtics - I NEVER could get into a bunch of "abnormally tall geeks" playing with a rubber ball... But, at least the ownership did SOMETHING!

2007 Bruins - Ugh - for a decade...

Boston is "New York City, light." It is a GREAT town, with TONS of professional AND college-level sports. Also the Comedy Connection, a fantastic Museum of Fine Arts, a first-class Museum of Science complete with IMAX and laser-light shows in the planetarium, etc.

Okay - I'm off my soap-box.

As far as the Sox "buying a world series", that's BS. Us Sox fans pay the highest tickets prices in baseball to watch our team play in a ballpark that was built almost 100 years ago. The seats were made for people 5 ft tall. I love Fenway's "charm" but it's by far the most uncomfortable place to watch a game. The bottom line is we support our team with our hard-earned dollars and even though they have a higher payroll than most other teams they still have to try to compete with the Yankees every year. Besides, there are a lot of teams out their collecting money thru revenue sharing and pocketing it instead of trying to put a better product out there.

As far as bandwagoners, well there's always going to be people that jump on the bandwagon. After losing in the ALCS in '03, the Sox sold every ticket to every game in '04. So don't tell me we are bandwagon jumpers. We support our teams even after they've broken our hearts.

I can see why you could get sickened watching ESPN always leading off with Sox/Pats/Celts but let's face it, all those teams are winning and what else is ESPN going to do, lead off with Dolphins highlights?

Oh, and one last thing:

143

The number of consecutive regular-season, preseason and playoff games that have been sold out in Foxborough. The streak began with the 1994 season

Don't know who's right or wrong, but it's clear that Boston is in a "golden era" right now but has a long way to go to catch up to NY. Just saying that because NY has dominated for so long, and a few years can not make that up. I'm not a big fan of NY teams, but I did live in NY (about an hour outside of NYC) in 1995 and it wasn't hard to get a ticket to Foxboro, for whatever that's worth.

Born in Boston....Moved to Az at age 9....raised in Charlotte, NC from age 12 up and currently residing in the wonderful city of San Antonio, Tx......a seriously underrated city with awesome people, tons of things to do etc etc (Give me 1 San Antonio over 10 Dallas' any day BTW). I spent the first eight years of my life in Boston. Almost all of my relatives live there still so I still have to go back yearly and visit and let me tell you this...the city itself, although beautiful, is the armpit of America. The vast majority of the cities inhabitants are rude, obnoxious pricks, the cost of living is outrageous and being a father of 4 it is beyond me why anyone would even consider raising a family there. With all that being said I always have and always will bleed red and blue. I have loved the Sox since I can remember. The heartbreak and losses of that damn team plague my memories and are as vivid today as they were when they happened. As sick as it sounds I consider the day we won the series in 04 to be up there with the birth of my children and the other amazing memories of my lifetime.

For what it is worth I HATE the Celtics, can't stomach the Pats (lifetime Chiefs and a Panthers fan since they joined the league) and hate Hockey so as for the Bruins....whatever. Some might consider me a glutton for punishment being a lifetime Sox/Chiefs fan. If the Chiefs ever win a Super Bowl in my lifetime at least I can die happy. Anyway...as for the outlook regarding Boston fans, I can't speak intelligently about Celtic/Pats/Bruins fans.....but I have always said and still believe that one of the only types of people that can possibly understand what it is like to be a true Red Sox fan is Chicago Cubbies fan 8). It honestly is hard to explain the phenomenon of being a Sox fan to just about anyone...oddly enough I have found that those that come closest to "getting it" other than a Cubs fan is a die hard Yankee fan. Believe it or not some of my closest friends have been Yankee fans.......even to this day I can be walking down the street wearing my Boston jersey and a big fat blue and red "B" on my baseball cap, pass a guy wearing Yankee pinstripes, nod my head at him, shoot him a sideways smirk and we kinda both just "get it". IT has always been that way. For 30 years of my life the smirk was his, his guys earned it...for the last 4 I have gotten to wear it. It's not me trying to intentionally be an arshole, it's not me being an obnoxious Boston fan......he knows it and I know it......it's my reward.....it's what I have gotten in return for the many, MANY years of "almost" and "ground balls through the legs of certain first baseman's".......It's what it means to be a frigging fan.....to support a team for a very long time, through the years of mediocre seasons and blown pennant races. When Boston sucked balls I was a fan....and I took the "shite" that everyone felt the need to throw my way. Now that we have a team that has been on top why should I not get the honor of being proud and boastful? I paid my dues, I never "jumped ship". Maybe, just maybe some day I may be able to walk down the street wearing KC red and yellow and pass some schmuck wearing a Denver or Oakland Jersey and perhaps I will get to wear that smirk again for my Chiefs......until that day comes I will wear my #58 Jersey of Derrick Thomas proudly (RIP) .....I will listen to the arsehats tell snickers candy bar jokes about my "chefs", LOL, and I will continue to pay my dues. But when the day does come, when I can finally call my Chiefs or Panthers Super Bowl champs please don't say I am obnoxious or annoying because I finally get the honor of boasting about my team......after all.....I am just being a true fan.....and thats what we, as men do........we suck it up and listen to our friends talk crap about our suck arse teams while they are losing...all the while biding our time...then, when we finally get our moments in the sun....we take our friends face....and shove it in the big steamy pile of shite called humble pie that we ourselves have had to walk in for years prior.

It's late...my sentence structuring sucked, my punctuation was horrid and my 8 year old son could have spelled better than have in this post.......so if you feel the need to flame me please do so with regards to what I said not how I said/spelled/typed/mistyped it/ :pointstosky:

Oh yeah, also.....yup.....Boston bought a good team...the Yankees have been doing it for years....and as the poster stated above...any team that has the market to support it can do the same......it sucks that this is what baseball has come to.....but it is what it is.......personally I think the bigger deal is ensuring guys who break home run records are not juiced up or indicted.....perhaps baseball should take care of that fish first then worry about teams paying guys named Rodriguez 275 million over 10 years and how to cap things like that...but hey...thats just me.
