kilroy69 1,035 Posted January 21, 2008 or NOT Ok homer. Just because you are from new york does not mean you have to have blinders on. The giants will be lucky if they only get beat by 14.
rallo 132 Posted January 21, 2008 Ok homer. Just because you are from new york does not mean you have to have blinders on. The giants will be lucky if they only get beat by 14. i'll politely disagree... they held it close last time... NE hasn't blown anyone out in awhile... giants are playing well enough to actually make this a game... the one main thing that is in your favor is that this game won't be outside in the cold... i like the giants in anything over 10 points... i'll probably jump at this line (sucker bet)... Hurricane Ditka 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Well, I jumped in and got -13 with my bookie at -120. So I am on the Pats to blow out the Giants.
Let Da Big Dog Eat 38 Posted January 21, 2008 Couple of points here: 1. Vegas does not set the line by what they think the outcome of the game will be. They set the spread based on what they think will give them equal action of both sides of the line. 2. Most SB's end up in a blowout. One team gets down by 10 in the 4th and ends up losing by much more due to the "there's no tomorrow" attitude and chucking it up, getting picks, sacks etc.
KSB2424 3,087 Posted January 21, 2008 Can somebody please let me know the last time NE has covered the spread? It had to be before Thanksgiving.
NorthernVike 2,080 Posted January 21, 2008 BET ?? If your so confident, put everything you've got on the Giants. It's not that hard to do.
art schlichter's bookie 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Like the GMen getting the points. NE is 2-7 ATS since the bye week...
KSB2424 3,087 Posted January 21, 2008 Like the GMen getting the points. NE is 2-7 ATS since the bye week... Yup, me too. If the teams did not have any "name value" to them and we were strictly handicapping two football teams the line would be around 10. The extra 3-4 points is being taxed because Vegas knows that enough action will still be put on NE because of their early season blowouts and name value. IMO betting on the Giants at +14 is getting way the best of the number. That's not saying they still won't get blown out, but you are getting the best of it going in and that is about as much as you can ask for.

redtodd 7 Posted January 21, 2008 This is the first spread of the Patriots in a while that I would be willing to bet on the Patriots.

gocolts 300 Posted January 21, 2008 NE hasn't blown anyone out in awhile... Which is one reason they are not the best team ever even if they win the Super Bowl. The greatest team ever is still the 85 Bears. They killed everyone in the playoffs. I don't think anyone even scored a point on them in the Playoffs that year. That being said, IF New England wins the Super Bowl, they will be one of the greatest ever, but not THE greatest ever.

Pats have won 3 SB's in last 5 years...all by THREE points. Of the last dozen SB's only 3 have been decided by more than 14 points: Bucs by 27 over OAK Ravens by 27 over G-Men Denver by 15 over ATL http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/history

TimmySmith 2,782 Posted January 22, 2008 Shoulda waited as this line is dropping quicker than a crack hore looking for that last nuggat.Which supports the title of this thread. Vegas put the line WAY too high, Giants still are the smart pick until 11 points, then the money will start pouring in on the Pats. Game will be decided by less than 7 IMO. nzoner 936 Posted January 22, 2008 Game will be decided by less than 7 IMO. I can see why people think this however I don't see it.These teams played a thrilling game in week 17(that in its own right was for big stakes) and now know one another very well. That said,IMO,a healthy Brady and a scheming Belicheck and I see the Pats putting the cherry on top of the sundae with a message to go along to all those who questioned their other 3 point Super Bowl wins. Pats 41 G-Men

By the way, I see this line dropping to 10.5ish before NE money moves it back up. Key numbers are 10, 13, 14 so 11 and 12 mean very little.
Rattlesnake 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Something tells me that the Pats have this different gear that nobody's seen at length for quite awhile, because they haven't needed it. The Giants saw it for a few minutes in the 4th quarter of their game in week 17. I think we see it in the 1st quarter this time.........
RicemanX 20 Posted January 23, 2008 With the way Maroney was running last week, I don't think the Gmen will come close

I'm just saying I know I'm biased but the Jints werent even off the field and they were getting disrespected as a 14 underdog .

Pats 41 - G-Men 17 Vegas makes tons on people that think like this. Forget the regular season. It means very little right now. Right now if someone from another planet had just seen the playoffs and nothing else, he would think the Giants would be favored. Getting double digit points is a gift. I'm just saying I know I'm biased but the Jints werent even off the field and they were getting disrespected as a 14 underdog . If you like to read I suggest checking out this book. Moldea, Dan E. Interference: How Organized Crime Influences Professional Football. New York: William Morrow, 1989. 512 pages. If football is the American religion, and the NFL its Vatican, then Dan Moldea is a heretic and excommunication is already in progress. Moldea is fighting back with a $10 million libel suit against the New York Times for its review of this book by sportswriter Gerald Eskenazi, an NFL mouthpiece. Moldea chronicles the long-standing relationship between the NFL and organized crime, which has resulted in no fewer than 26 past and present NFL team owners with documented ties to either gambling or the syndicate, evidence of 70 fixed professional games, and the suppression of at least 50 law enforcement investigations of NFL corruption. This book also offers an introduction to the world of betting lines, oddsmakers and handicappers, bookmakers, and high-stakes gambling. This is one of four books in NameBase by Dan Moldea, who has specialized in organized crime investigations since 1974.
kutulu 1,564 Posted January 23, 2008 Based on 10,000 simulations, the chances of the Giants winning the Super Bowl are not great -- just 25 percent. As a NY Giants fan, I'll take that 25%.
