Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted June 6, 2008 He was off early then heated up a little. I think the defense on him at the end of the game was very good. Pierce played him late but it was mostly allen at the beginning. Pierce got in early foul trouble so they didn't put him back on kobe until late. Kobe said that he missed a bunch of bunnies. Apparently, he thinks that having a guy in his face and bumping him 18' from the basket is a bunny. From a guy who does not understand when a girl (not his wife) tells him to not stick it up her butt, I guess that is expected
Day Old Doughnut 0 Posted June 6, 2008 Except when they play on the road. They need to win in LA where the Lakers are undefeated, and I'm not so sure they can do that. The Lakers need to win in Boston and they've won on the home court of every team they've played in the playoffs. Winning game one at home by not a huge amount wouldn't make me comfortable if I was a Boston fan. They won by double digits and played great d in the second half. What were they supposed to do? Win by 15 for it to be "comfortable"? Seeing how this is the first time in two decades the Celtics have played in the Finals and how the Lakers with Kobe are expected to win this series, I think Boston played very well. I"m sure many out there were looking for the Lakers to win tonight.

However, it wasn't a must win by any stretch and it was close the whole game. If the Lakers had won it what do you think would be happening in Boston right now? Kobe had an off night, The big three Celtics all had good games (how often has that happened in the playoffs?), and the Celtics won at home. And we move on.... Yeah, Boston is such a push over at home. Who cares what would have happened had Boston lost the game? They won, so I don't see your point. I think the Lakers win the series, but it's just laughable how so many of you give such little credit to Boston. Kobe has an off night rather than Boston's defense having a part in his off night. I hope the Lakers don't develop that same kind of mentality, otherwise they are in trouble.

If they get three more at home they're the champions. I'm just saying it isn't that comfortable a win. It isn't a 30 point laugher like they had 4 of against Atlanta. We'll just have to see how the rest of the series plays out.

I don't think anyone with half a brain expected Boston to just come in and blow out the Lakers. I don't expect any game to be a blow out. I don't see how someone can spin tonight's win as uncomfortable, but to each their own. The Lakers had the mindset of a split, and I expect them to win Sunday, but it's apparent this isn't going to be as easy of a series as many were thinking. While the Lakers aren't Atlanta, the Celtics aren't the Nuggets themselves.

adam smitty 0 Posted June 6, 2008 Ray Allen's defense was fantastic tonite. Yes Kobe was a bit off, but a lot of that was due to Allen not giving him an inch early on tonite. Loved how agressive Ray was on offense as well, forcing Kobe to spend a ton of energy on both ends. I expect Kobe to drop 40 in game 2 though, he did take 26 shots tonite but he passed even more. He will take over the next game early on and the Lakers will even it up.
Yer mom 2 Posted June 6, 2008 Off night, imo. I wont take anything away from the Celts (or Ray Allen) but Kobe performed at about 65% of what he is capable of tonight so im comfortable saying he was off Paul Pierce... When he appeared injured in the third, I was like this dude was stabbed 9 times and bounced back, he'll be back in the game here in 10 minutes

Kobe had an off night, The big three Celtics all had good games (how often has that happened in the playoffs?), and the Celtics won at home. And we move on.... The Big Three basically had average games for them. None of them really went off like they are capable. Garnett averaging 21.2 in playoffs scored: 24 Pierce averaging 19.1 in playoffs scored: 22 Allen averaging 14.4 in playoffs had 19 Allen's average is a little low because he was in a shooting slump earlier in the playoffs. But he has been out of that slump for the past few games so 19 from him is more normal than his 14.1 playoff average. all these guys are capable of having much bigger numbers. So, i would'nt say they played over their heads. I did not think Kobe played up to his potential but I also though the celtics defense did not play as good as usual until the 2nd half. This is the first game in the playoffs that I can remember where all three of those guys had good games at the same time. That's what I was referring to. And, by your own admission all of them exceeded their averages. If they do that I wouldn't expect any one of them to have 40 points. In game 7 against Cleveland Pierce had 41 but Garnett only had 13 and Allen 4. They're a much more dangerous team when all the guys are scoring 20 then when 1 guy goes for 40 and the other two are hovering around 10 or less.
Me_2006 14 Posted June 9, 2008 Does Lamar Odom know he's not that good? I mean, if he touches it and no one is standing wide open for a shot when he's got it, he WILL shoot it that possession. Most likely on some out of control drive to the rim where he turns it over.
Me_2006 14 Posted June 9, 2008 Oh yeah, Kobe nailed him with that vicious elbow and used it to really gain an advantage. Brilliant call from the Boston officials.
The Moz 69 Posted June 9, 2008 Refs are really on the Celtic side tonight. But LA is playing like garbage as well. Seems like LA gets hacked and no call anything n the other end its a foul. Maybe another Donnely?

listen2me 23 1,832 Posted June 9, 2008 Was it this thread or another where CH made a fool of himself? Still a half to play. I just didn't understand all of the people who picked LA and many of them picked them in 5 or 6 games??? Celtics were the best team this year, have HC advantage, have a better D......what were the reasons why Bostan shouldn't be the favorites or at the very least make it a 7 game series? Good thing Kobe has Gasol on his team.

GobbleDog 987 Posted June 9, 2008 Yeah, I was surprised by the line move. When it first came out it was Boston -1 and I quickly threw $20 on 'em thinking I'd better put my money down before the spread moves any higher. Well, it moved alright but not the way I expected. Just before tipoff the line was Boston +2 and I felt like a schmuck for jumping the gun. Oh well, I'm feeling pretty good about my bet now. Let's go Celtics!!!!
