Cowboys Acquire WR Roy Williams

Recommended Posts

what does this do to his fantasy value.. im assuming his stock goes up simply because he was traded out of detroit but shouldn't we remember this team has witten and owens as well as barber and no Romo for 4 weeks?

still worth trying to trade for him?

So Dallas now is the Detroit Lions - a ton of talent at all the skill positions minus a defense and a quarterback? Granted, the Cowboys have a much better line, but still.

Brad Johnson + Roy Williams + less balls for T.O. = IMPLOSION :overhead:

IRVING -- The Dallas Cowboys completed a trade for Detroit Lions wide receiver Roy Williams Tuesday.

The Cowboys gave up multiple picks, including a possible first rounder, according to sources.

The trade deadline was today.

The Cowboys have been searching for a big-play wide receiver to complement Pro Bowler Terrell Owens and Williams fills that need.

Dallas' QB has is tied for the league lead in TD's, has a 103 rating, plus led his team to a 4-2 record. Don't quote me, but I don't think that's the case for Detroit or their QB.

Really don't know how TO's gonna handle this. He's already whining about not getting enough looks.

If Dallas doesn't win it this year, this is a lose-lose situation.

If Williams comes on and takes catches away from Owens, he'll become disruptive. If Williams doesn't get the looks that he needs, he'll walk away from them after the season is over, and Dallas will be out a few higher draft picks.

I will give Jerrah Jones his due: when he goes all-in, he goes all-in.

I guess you didn't hear that Romo is out for 4-6 weeks......

1st, 3rd and 6th pick is a STEEP price for a guy who's severely overrated. He's good, but I think Jerry "I'm acting like the old Daniel Snyder" Jones is pushing things too far. They already had a lack of cohesiveness...now they have two primadonna WR vying for the ball.

Aren't they buddies? :overhead: I seem to remember hearing that they were friends and after TO left Philly Roy was campaigning for the Lions to go get him.

What does this do to Calvin Johnson's fantasy value? Do D's just key on him now and has no one to take the pressure off or does he just get more looks?

For those worried about TO, this move should only benefit him. The more viable targets in the Cowboys passing game the less coverage teams can place soley on Owens. He should have an easier time getting open now.

Teams already have to worry about Owens and Witten every play. Now you have Roy Williams added to the mix. If a defense decides to take Owens out of the game they still need to worry about Witten or Williams dominating them now. It really shouldn't hurt Owens performance any. Especially considering he hasn't gotten the ball all that much the last 2 weeks to begin with.

ahaha.... you have all won a ticket to join jerry jones in the nut house. the cowboys got fleeced. this deal was silly pants all the way. not only will detroit have the chance at three or fours starters, when all is said and done, they'll have more money to work with... which makes the general manager vacancy much more attractive. who knows... maybe they'll even get someone who can draft talent. not to mention no one on that roster is crying that optomist prime has lef the building. good riddance. what's the cowboys first round pick gonna be after they are done with the plummet... 16? ahaha, the lions would've taken a fifth round pick and they got three. ahaha, and dallas gets a receiver. ahaha, how foolish. welcome home, first down.

I heard a 1st, 3rd & 6th and the Lions kick back a 7th. That's an awful lot to give up . . . Cowboys fail.

Holy crap, Detroit took Dallas to the woodshed on this deal if that is correct.

This is like the Herschel Walker trade between Dallas and Minnesota, except this time Dallas is getting raped.

I don't get how you give up that much for Roy Williams. Its kind of shocking. I wouldn't give that for many top WRs in the league.

Hmmm.

One radio station said two 2nd rounders.

ESPN said "multiple picks not including a first rounder"

And on one radio station I heard the 1st, 3rd, and 6th package.

i like it from detroit's perspective. it's obviously tear-it-all-down-and-start-over(again) time in detroit and roy was most likely going to bolt after this year. i like the price tag they got in return as well.

those badmouthing roy shouldn't be. he's still young and he's a very good wr. i think he'll step it up in dallas and recommit himself. the detroit situation just dragged him down.

...although i am curious how he meshes with owens...roy had been complaining lately about not getting the ball.

Two 2nd rounders.

Cowboys win.

LOL....try again

Martin Mayhew just went a long way to becoming a candidate for the GM duties.

Bump up Shaun McDonald?

This boosts Calvin Johnson's value, as he now becomes a Roddy White type of receiver who gets all the looks for his team.

This lowers Roy Williams' value, as he now goes from being a #1 to being at best the third option behind Witten and Owens.

yahoo's ap story says 1,3, and 6...but espn tends to be pretty accurate in these matters. it's detroit, so i'd automatically assume the lower compensation is the correct one.

i will wait to see from somebody that knows what they are talking about. i dont think they gave up 3 picks i read on espn that it did not include a 1st round pick. so i will hold judgement till it is official since they are working on a new deal before the deal is final....... this will make the offense unstoppable with the holses in the defense it was a move that had to be made........

Considering Roy is not available in any leagues, I think the most important (fantasy) question is who steps up in Roy's place in DET...

Shaun McDonald? Furrey?

Oh trust me, I concur wholeheartedly but you gotta look at this as a serious feather in the cap of Mayhew. Can he judge talent though? Probably not.

From the horse's mouth:

IRVING, Texas - In a bold move to inject some Pro Bowl production into a battered offense, the Cowboys acquired Detroit Lions receiver Roy Williams just before the NFL's 3 p.m. (CDT) trade deadline.

The Lions will receive the Cowboys' 2009 first-round pick, a third-round pick and sixth-round pick. The Cowboys get Detroit's 2009 seventh-round pick in the Williams trade, plus Tennessee's 2009 fifth-round pick now that cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended at least four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Williams, who has been involved in trade rumors for weeks, instantly provides a speed complement opposite Terrell Owens and a big target for backup quarterback Brad Johnson, who has been ushered into the starting lineup with Tony Romo (fractured right pinkie finger) expected to miss about a month.

Williams is scheduled to be a free agent after the season. The former University of Texas star has expressed a desire to return to his home state, and the winless Lions' decision to trade their best offensive player signals a directional shift under new management (longtime GM Matt Millen was fired two weeks ago).

Through the first six games, Williams has 17 catches for 232 yards and a touchdown. He will wear No. 11 for the Cowboys.
