Bert 1,110 Posted June 10, 2009 Well, I don't believe that heaven waits, For only those who congregate. I like to think of God as love: He's down below, He's up above. He's watching people everywhere. He knows who does and doesn't care. And I'm an ordinary man, Sometimes I wonder who I am. ~Don Williams Now, it all comes down to numbers Now Im glad that I have quit Folks these days just dont do nothin Simply for the love of it ~Don Henley Before you judge me take a look at you Can't you find something better to do Point the finger, slow to understand Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand ~Metallica Hurtin' me now don't mean a thing. ZeroTolerance 582 Posted June 12, 2009 And one more to wrap things up: What's coming through is alive What's holding up is a mirror What's singing songs is a snake ... It is Looking to turn this piss to wine They're both totally void of hate And killing me just the same now The snake behind me hisses What my damage could have been My blood before me begs me Open up my heart again And I feel this coming over like a storm again ... Now Considerately Ven-o-mous voice tempts me Drains me, bleeds me Leaves me cracked and empty Drags me down like some sweet gravity The snake behind me hisses What my damage could have been My blood before me begs me Open up my heart again And I feel this coming over like a storm again ... Now And I feel this coming over like a storm again ... Now I am too, connected to you To slip away or fade away Days away, I still feel you Touching me, changing me And ... Considerately killing me Considerately killing me And ... Considerately killing me Considerately killing me And Without the skin peeled Beneath the storm Under these tears now The walls came down As the snake is drowned As I look in his eyes My fear begins to fade Recalling all of the times I could have cried then I should have cried then And as the walls come down And as I look in your eyes My fear begins to fade Recalling all of the times I have died and will die It's all right I don't mind I don't mind I don't miiiiiiind! I posted Hallelujah lyrics earlier, and one is one of the best songs ever. You should check out the cover by the Cowboy Junkies. Its pretty faithful to the original, but Margo's voice just works there. And since you bring up Steve Earle, I gotta post these lyrics... Well my name's John Lee Pettimore Same as my daddy and his daddy before You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here He only came to town about twice a year He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line Everybody knew that he made moonshine Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad He headed up the holler with everything he had It's before my time but I've been told He never came back from Copperhead Road Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside Well him and my uncle tore that engine down I still remember that rumblin' sound Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road I volunteered for the Army on my birthday They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway I done two tours of duty in Vietnam And I came home with a brand new plan I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air I wake up screamin' like I'm back over there I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know You better stay away from Copperhead Road Copperhead Road Copperhead Road Copperhead Road

ZeroTolerance 582 Posted June 14, 2009 I took a drive today. Time to emancipate. I guess it was the beatings, made me wise. But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize I couldn't breathe, holding me down. Hand on my face, pushed to the ground. Enmity gauged, united by fear. Forced to endure what I could not forgive. I seem to look away. Wounds in the mirror waved. It wasn't my surface most defiled. Head at your feet, fool to your crown. Fist on my plate, swallowed it down. Enmity gauged, united by fear. Tried to endure what I could not forgive. Saw things... Saw things... Saw things... Saw things... Clearer... Clearer... Once you were in my rear view mirror. I gather speed from you, fucking with me. Once and for all, I'm far away. I hardly believe, finally the shades are raised. Hey, yeah. Saw things so much clearer. Once you, once you... Rear view mirror. Saw things so much clearer. Once you, once you... Rear view mirror. Saw things so much clearer. Once you, once you... Rear view mirror. Saw things so much clearer. Once you... Oh yeah... jets24 6 Posted June 14, 2009 Another one of my favorites... I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead; I just need some place where I can lay my head. "Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?" He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said. (Chorus:) Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free; Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me. I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide; When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side. I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown." She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around." (Chorus) Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day. "Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?" He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?" (Chorus) Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog. He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack, my dog." I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man." He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can." (Chorus) Catch a cannon ball now, t'take me down the line My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time. To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one. Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.

Woke up, got out of bed Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup And looking up, i noticed i was late Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke Somebody spoke and i went into a dream Ah I read the news today oh, boy Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall I'd love to turn you on

Giants Fan 85 Posted June 14, 2009 Meh. So anyway .... more about ME! Looking back on the mid-80's ... I remember the Meat Puppets used to play Tucson all the time. Black Flag .... when I went to NY I fit right in ... I was even more hardcore than these kids in NY. Nobody bothered them. People used to mess with me on a regular basis because I had a mohawk and there was a skull on the back of my jacket. However ..... I don't think punk was ever really about LYRICS ...... I mean the thread is greatest lyrics after all. Great song, appreciate the shout out .... but the lyrics ... nostalgic .... but kindah meh. Circle Jerks, Toxic Reasons, T.S.O.L. ....etc .... played Tucson. Phoenix .... was the poser scene.
kutulu 1,564 Posted June 14, 2009 There is unrest in the forest, there is trouble with the trees For the maples want more sunlight and the oaks ignore their pleas The trouble with the maples, and they're quite convinced they're right, They say the oaks are just too lofty, and they grab up all the light. But the oaks can't help their feelings if they like the way they're made. And they wonder why the maples can't be happy in their shade? There is trouble in the forest And the creatures all have fled As the maples scream "oppression!" And the oaks, just shake their heads So the maples formed a union And demanded equal rights "the oaks are just too greedy We will make them give us light" Now there's no more oak oppression For they passed a noble law And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, Axe, And saw ... I always like these lyrics. Not my favorite RUSH song music wise, but the words are cool.

Yer mom 2 Posted June 14, 2009 Everytime I see or hear theses lyrics, im greatful that im not a musician cause how can one compete with this? You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Anyplace is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something But me myself I got nothing to prove You got a fast car And I got a plan to get us out of here I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money We won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living You see my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle that's the way it is He says his body's too old for working I say his body's too young to look like his My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody's got to take care of him So I quit school and that's what I did You got a fast car But is it fast enough so we can fly away We gotta make a decision We leave tonight or live and die this way I remember we were driving driving in your car The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car And we go cruising to entertain ourselves You still ain't got a job And I work in a market as a checkout girl I know things will get better You'll find work and I'll get promoted We'll move out of the shelter Buy a big house and live in the suburbs You got a fast car And I got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me would find it I got no plans I ain't going nowhere So take your fast car and keep on driving You got a fast car But is it fast enough so you can fly away You gotta make a decision You leave tonight or live and die this way
