tikigods 76 Posted November 17, 2010 The Atlanta Braves acquired All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla from the Florida Marlins for utilityman Omar Infante and pitcher Mike Dunn on Tuesday in the first trade of the general managers meetings. Uggla, 30, has 154 home runs in five seasons with Florida. He's a two-time All-Star and just won his first career Silver Slugger award. The Marlins elected to move Uggla after they were unable to reach an agreement with him on a long-term contract. He made $7.8 million this year, is eligible for salary arbitration and can become a free agent after the 2011 World Series.

edjr 6,898 Posted November 17, 2010 Where did the term "hot stove" come from? Back in the winter of 1921. Babe Ruth was at a party, he was all messed up and little did he know. When he leaned over to put his hand down to hold his fat ass up, he yelled "HOT STOVE" and missed winter ball that year.

southcarolina 166 Posted November 19, 2010 was it really Justin Upton? I guess my hopes were really up when I heard it was "Upton". I think Justin had a better season last year than BJ, and only turned 23 a month ago. Not saying i wouldnt want BJ, but Justin is hardly a B-list player. AND Justin is already under contract until 2015, while BJ will be a FA after 2013.
sorrycharlie 0 Posted November 19, 2010 Clint Barmes traded to Houston from Colorado. Red Sox are working out a deal for BJ Upton. Justin Upton- God no, we have enough weak talent in the OF already. If your gonna take on a 10 million per year contract for that guy, just save your $ cuz he's already on the roster, and his name is Ryan Kalish. They want ALOT for that guy, and he's not worth it. If the Sox are going to part with young talent, it better be for great players like AGonz, and move Youk to 3rd. Uggla was a good score for ATL, The Marlins are run like a five and dime store..they will sit on Hanley as long as they can before selling him off in a few years.......one of their only attractions, and they will milk that cow until his value will be higher somewhere else. kilroy69 1,268 Posted November 19, 2010 yaaaaayyyy. Way to overpay for a setup guy. Tigers signed RHP Joaquin Benoit to a three-year, $16.5 million contract. The strangest deal so far this offseason is now complete. Benoit posted a stellar 1.34 ERA and 75/11 K/BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings for the Rays in 2010, but relievers are very year-to-year and it wouldn't shock anyone if he falls flat in Detroit. Benoit is likely to serve as the setup man to closer Jose Valverde, meaning he will carry fantasy value only in the event of an injury. This is of course a deal we need to complete and won't. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, "six to seven teams" are in the mix for Victor Martinez. We have heard the Red Sox, Tigers and Orioles connected to V-Mart most often, but there have been reports that the Rockies, Rangers, Mariners and Blue Jays may also have interest. According to Rosenthal, the intensity of talks will pick up next week and a deal is likely to be completed at the winter meetings next month.

If the Sox are going to part with young talent, it better be for great players like AGonz, and move Youk to 3rd. Its all a moot point now because the Sox have apparently broken off talks with the Diamondbacks, but... While i like Kalish as much as the next guy, but Justin Upton is only 6 months older than Kalish, but has already had 1400+ more major league at bats than Kalish. And during those major league at bats Upton has OPSed at a .824 clip. a level Kalish has only ecliped once for a full season in the minor leagues. Kalish is a guy who the potential to be a really really good major leaguer. Upton has the potential to be a really really great major leaguer. And giving up major trading chips for AGon now would be foolish, since the Sox can just wait until next offseason and get him for just money.
sorrycharlie 0 Posted November 19, 2010 AGon will have more suitors after this year, and that's IF Jed doesn't get what he can at the deadline next season. It's been said that they have already stated that they know they won't be able to afford him(didn't see it written-rumour? doesn't really matter, they can't afford him). Would be nice IF they could just wait and get him, but there will be suitors, and he is a difference maker. Upton has mental issues, and is a mediocre hitter with little-mediocre power- I'm not seeing the need for a guy like that...Julio Lugo anyone?

sorrycharlie 0 Posted November 20, 2010 Brandon Moss to the Phillies. I think this signals Jayson Werth's departure from Philly. Why? southcarolina 166 Posted November 20, 2010 I wish Boston was on that list Why do you hate Justin Upton so much? Admittedly i have not followed his career all that closely, and only started reading up on him when the Sox began expressing interest in him. But he seems to me to be a guy who is supremely talented, who is only 23 years old, has been a productive Major Leaguer for 3 seasons, and has the potential to be really special. And he is signed for 5 more years.
tikigods 76 Posted November 20, 2010 HAHAHAHAH I got no love for him. Im glad were on his list. Fock him. He could turn into a decent corner outfield. Sabermetrically he is a disaster. He has decent OPS (.824) but his bb/k rate is terrible. His power was way down this season too. He doesn't seem like the prototypical player that Bill James/Theo target. In edjr terms, he is a good player for Boston.

You will end up with Travis Hafner....who turns into a cancer. ESPN's Buster Olney writes that "lots of folks in baseball" are wondering if the D-backs are so intent on marketing Justin Upton because there's something wrong with him. We're wondering the same thing. Upton has dealt with shoulder problems since becoming a professional, and he actually has had a small tear in his left labrum that dates back to 2006. He's also due nearly $50 million over the next five seasons. But, Upton is no doubt one of the best young players in the game and the shoulder hasn't been a major problem for him -- at least that we're aware of. It would take a huge package to get him, but it seems as if Arizona is serious about possibly moving him.

You will end up with Travis Hafner....who turns into a cancer. I had my labrum, bicep tendon, and rotator cuff done a year ago and was able to play softball all summer. I'd say I was about 100% by early May after having the surgery in late October. Upton has way more resources than I did so I'm sure he'll be fine by the beginning of the season. I am curious why the D-Backs are so hellbent on trading him, tho.

Something like that could lead to other problems and you never know if its ever going to come back to what he once was. Plus it seems like the D backs would keep him if they thought he had such big potential.

Maybe this is a sell high scenario to get max value....or they think he is a piece of shiit and want rid themselves of his services instead of paying him 50 million.
