Rep. Giffords of Arizona shot, Federal Judge Roll dead

Recommended Posts

I rarely read your posts, which is obviously why I missed this.

Whether or not Palin was his motivation is irrelevant to the fact that Palin's tactics are potentially dangerous and should be called to the carpet.

DanXIII - write in candidate for geek club dooshe of the year

Also, I'm gonna edit all of your posts to remove your stoopid smiley face.

With all the time you have on your hands, why not? You certainly don't seem to concerned with seeking gainful employment or otherwise being a productive member of society.

He may be a threat to the the ideas of democracy and of representative government, but at lest he has good taste in music.

I'm surprised everyone didn't jump on the description of him as a 'left wing liberal'

So am I. I mean, your unsourced copy and paste of an anonymous Twitter post that may or may not even exist should be all the evidence anyone needs to form a sound conclusion about his political leanings.

Another classmate, Lydian Ali, recalled the incident as well.

"A girl had written a poem about an abortion. It was very emotional and she was teary eyed and he said something about strapping a bomb to the fetus and making a baby bomber," Ali told ABC News.

now who here hasn't said something like that?

Well.... it seems government officials are intimating that there were some political motivations behind it. And they delayed the health care bill. But it has been reported from non-reliable sources like twitter that this guy is a liberal, so I'm wondering what is really going on. I've been busy and haven't had a chance to read anything on this yet today.

I think it goes without saying that the guy is a mental case. Anyone who goes into a shopping mall and opens fire clearly isn't playing with a full deck.

at least someone is brave enough to speak the truth!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVOCPO_a_MI

The sheriff pointed to the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country as he denounced the shooting
that claimed several of his friends as victims, including U.S. District Judge John Roll. The judge celebrated Mass on Saturday morning like he does every day before stopping by to say hello to his good friend Giffords.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Stupid liberal sheriff

We can either believe someone who hung out with this nutjob for years, or the knee jerk reaction of a Sheriff who just learned his name minutes prior to his rant.

Caitie Parker, a singer/songwriter from Oro Valley, AZ, says that she knows Jared Loughner, the gunman that shot 19 people in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday, January 8th. She really hoped it wasn’t the same guy she went to high school with several years earlier, as he had been a really good friend. Not only did she go to high school with him, but college as well and was in a band with him. “There were 5-6 of us that hung out” in high school. Unfortunately, it was.

At that time, she said, he was very philosophical and leaned to the ‘left.’ She said, “For the Bush/Kerry election we all wore “1 term president” buttons. That election was HUGE to us.”

Contrary to the opinion of several bloggers following the shooting, there is no evidence that Sarah Palin or Glenn Beck had any influence on Loughner. On the contrary, according to Caitie, at the time she knew him, he was left wing, quite liberal, and “oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.” “He wore shirts & bracelets about it. & liked to discuss 2012 w/ everyone!”

Their group was “liberal in wanting to change the way the world was run, we both wanted to. He took it to an extreme I never would’ve.” She said he was a “political radical” long before the teaparty, Glenn Beck, or Sarah Palin came on the scene.

Caitie also said he was a pot head and was into the music of Hendrix, The Doors, and Anti-Flag. “We listened to political punk in high school & agreed with their leftist opinions for the most part. Anti-Flag was our band.”

She states that he adhered to the “straight edge” beliefs of Anti-flag for the first few years of High School, but “Junior year & on, no.”When she knew him, he had lot of friends, smoked pot, and dated girls, “until he got alcohol poisoning” in 2006 and dropped out of school. After that, he became very reclusive and was mainly a loner.

There is NO evidence that he was influenced by conservatives, but there is good evidence he was influenced by socialists. His my Space page, for example, listed Mein Kampf and The Communist Manifesto as some of his favorite books.

I know bringing rational thought and links to people who actually knew the guy kinda throws your whackadoodle world off kilter.

Still waiting for you to back up this charge with something............anything.

If this shooting was politically motivated, there will be A LOT of fallout from it. The Republicans have spent the last two years whipping their half-crazy base into a murderous frenzy. Would it be any surprise that this was a result of that?

I find it rather disturbing that this has turned into a political argument.

The guy was clearly nuts. If you accept that he was not a rational person, then how can someone maintain any credibility by suggesting the insane person's political views should justify pointing the fingers at any political group for incitement? If he's nuts, then he's nuts. To accept he's crazy and then give credibility to his political views in an effort to push your political views is the antithesis of rational thought.

He was crazy, politically motivated and armed. There's nothing more too it than that.

What did he say to whip up a murderous frenzy? As far as I can tell, this is the first statement this sheriff has made that is well known. Has he been whipping people up into a murderous frenzy for the past 2 years on the sly?

Assassination Attempt In Arizona

A Democratic Congresswoman has been shot in the head; another dozen were also shot.

We don't have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was. She's been the target of violence before. And for those wondering why a Blue Dog Democrat, the kind Republicans might be able to work with, might be a target, the answer is that she's a Democrat who survived what was otherwise a GOP sweep in Arizona, precisely because the Republicans nominated a Tea Party activist. (Her father says that "the whole Tea Party" was her enemy.) And yes, she was on Sarah Palin's infamous "crosshairs" list.

amazing, Kruggy figured it all out by 4pm yesterday while the rest of us were still waiting for just the guys' name

This guy said it better than I ever could: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/us/politics/09bai.html?_r=1&hp

Those that have been amping up the rhetoric for the past few years have been extremely reckless in doing so. Giffords herself lamented the hate and vitriol that was being cast at her by other political figures (including Palin and her Republican opponent in her 2010 race). Her office was vandalized after the health care bill vote. This is what happens when political leaders turn reckless and cast those they disagree with as mortal enemies or traitors to the country. They know they are just whipping up their base; unfortunately some of their more mentally fragile followers do not understand that.

Anyway, I'm done arguing. I don't want to turn this into a political argument. It's a tragedy and I suppose it cheapens the lives of the victims when people try to score political points from the event. I just think that this episode goes to show that all politicians, regardless of which side of the political spectrum they are on, need to tone things down a bit.

You let it get to post #3 before YOU made it political. Then you moved on to your usual baseless charges about Reps whipping the base up into a "murderous frenzy".

Now when you are called on your BS you run away, as you should. Like I said, he was a nutjob. Nothing more, nothing less. But I love your one last grasp at saving face with that link. Nowhere in it does the author provide specifics......just hyperbole like you did. Oh wait, he did provide this specific outrageous post that could have incited violence:

Another was from Daily Kos, the liberal blog, where one of the congresswoman’s apparently liberal constituents declared her “dead to me” after Ms. Giffords voted against Nancy Pelosi in House leadership elections last week.

Yes, President Obama shouldn't have said that. And if somebody shoots the people Obama was referencing, I will say that he should share some of the blame for that.

Obama referenced Republicans as the "enemy".

Judge Roll, who was killed, was nominated to the bench by John McCain and appointed by George HW Bush in 1991. How much blame for his death are you willing to put on Obama now?

I love watching the reactions of people here.

Something happens to a political figure and those who identify with that side mention the possible political motivations. Those who side with the philosophy logically believed to be responsible IF it was politically motivated want to leave politics out of it and get all 'It's a human being!!' on us.

And if the parties were reversed, they'd be harping about 'crazy lefties/righties' and the other side would be pulling the 'leave politics out of it!' card. You guys seriously need to step back and put things in perspective.

Or it could be rubes like Worms should have left politics out of it since it is clearly just a nut, and it's fun handing those clowns their a$$ on the subject......especially when all evidence (first hand accounts of people who knew the nut) indicate his political leanings were the opposite of what morons like Worms claim.

"One day down and nineteen to go. We do have one student in the class who was disruptive today, I'm not certain yet if he was on drugs (as one person surmised) or disturbed. He scares me a bit. The teacher tried to throw him out and he refused to go, so I talked to the teacher afterward. Hopefully he will be out of class very soon, and not come back with an automatic weapon."

From June 10:

"As for me, Thursday means the end to week two of algebra class. It seems to be going by quickly, but then I do have three weeks to go so we'll see how I feel by then. Class isn't dull as we have a seriously disturbed student in the class, and they are trying to figure out how to get rid of him before he does something bad, but on the other hand, until he does something bad, you can't do anything about him. Needless to say, I sit by

the door."

From June 14:

"We have a mentally unstable person in the class that scares the living crap out of me. He is one of those whose picture you see on the news, after he has come into class with an automatic weapon. Everyone interviewed would say, Yeah, he was in my math class and he was really weird. I sit by the door with my purse handy. If you see it on the news one night, know that I got out fast..."

after reading these its obvious all evidencce points to palin
