It's an EXCITING Time to be a Seahawks Fan

Recommended Posts

I am intrigued to see what the O-line plays like. They were pretty bad but it was with a week of practice, and against a talented Chargers squad. I really want to see how they come back from that performance.

I think our season is going to come down to how the O-line plays, losing Okung so early really hurts. I don't want to see Polumbus on the field at all, if we start him at Left Tackle we are best a 4 win team. We might want to look at swapping Okung and Carpenter right now, maybe okung would not get hurt as much facing a slightly slower pass rusher.

Walter Jones has spoiled me, we miss you big fella. I'll bet he could come back and start for half the teams in the league if he wanted. I sure hope he makes the HOF.

How does it feel to be a fan of this shiatpool of a franchise? I live in the NW....I know how pathetic this franchise has been throughout it's existence. One fluke season does not change that. Enjoy the TJoke and Whitehurst show  .... oh, and thanks to playing in the worst division ever in football, you get no luck with Andrew Luck even. Thanks to the other teams sukking so much in the division, you will fluke yourself to a 5 win season only to get another OL that will get injured in the 1st preseason game. Enjoy the season nimrod! :overhead:

Congrats Seahawks fans...your team is destined to do well now that the most uninformed tool has come out of the shed to talk smack again.

The line was actually fairly competent all things considered. I was half expecting a disaster. Polumbus got schooled a few times but held his own ok. Im happy we kept him around, he's great depth. Moffitt has me a little excited too. Once we get Okung back in there and the youngsters get a little game experience in them things could be golden. These guys had never played a game together until last week.

Tavaris reminds me of a poor man's Seneca Wallace. I'm not going to read too much into Whitehurst looking good. Portis could pay off some day.

I hate watching games on ESPN.

Agree with everything on the oline.

Polumbus is what he is. A decent backup at the most important line position. No one wants to him his start anything.

I think we're looking at a better second half of the season than the first half for them. They need time to gell. Okung,Carpenter and Unger all are talented. And I think Gallery and Moffitt will bring the mean and nasty that an oline needs too.

I'm very excited to be able to pop a rookie QB behind these 5 next year. To go along with the RB's/WR's/and TE's.

While this draft and offseason has been very unflashy. It's been very compitent. I love what Carroll and Schnieder have done regarding payroll, and from foundation of the team ground up.

I suppose I can wait a year for a QB

Although with Hasselbeck and Locker in Tennessee.

I'll probably keep an eye on them too.

It's going to sound a bit bandwagonish but thats the great thing about FF, while my team is down and rebuilding I can still be excited for other players in the league and enjoy watching football.

Exactly. This is what most casual observers don't get. Signing TJAX is like buying a lottery ticket. If he tunrs into Mike Vick, you win the lottery. If he continues to suck, you are in position to draft a franchise QB next year. There was no franchise QB available to the Hawks this year, so they made the right move to punt the QB position and re-build the rest of the team, which in turn, will make the transition easier for a rookie QB next year to step in with a young, but experienced group around him.

Though they, and several other teams, may kick themselves for passing on Mallett (twice right?).

Correct. I nearly chewed off my arm in frustration every time we passed on him.

I could see it in the first.

But when he was there in the 2nd...then traded the pick...coming close in the 3rd...though, maybe the thought there was, well, NE won't take him, we will. But I did like the Moffitt pick after that anyway.

Lets all be honest, Mallet is pretty much in the best possible place he could be, of course he looks like a stud.

Bring him here and ask him to carry Tavaris Jackson and The Clip Board Jesus's shoulderpads and see what happens. Beyond the great coaching the chance to sit and eat a plate full of humble pie is what will enhance Mallet's chances. Instead of being treated like a god, like in college he will see even Brady works everyday and realize what being a pro is all about. No way he would have got that in Seattle, we all would have bought in instantly because we have never had a franchise QB and clamored for him to start too soon. It would have gone to his head and he would have at a short middling career. He has a real shot to emerge in a couple years as a franchise type QB and net the Patriots a bonanza of draft picks.

We need as close to a pro-ready QB as we can get. Part of the pain of losing Holmgren to Cleveland and Zorn to wacko Snyder is now we don't have a QB friendly developmental guy. I like Carrol and company and respect the job they are doing, but am more than a little concerned we don't have a QB developer or offensive genius/QB friendly guru on staff.

Locker looked beastly. I hope he tears it up down there.

As a Titans fan, I was very impressed with the kid last week. I knew that the knock was accuracy, but from going back and watching some film on him from last season, it was apparent that his line and WR's sucked donkey dong, and that was a huge part of the problem.

I was expecting to see happy feet and taking off at the first sign of trouble. Instead he was cool, calm, and appeared to go through his reads. He fired a couple high, (including the one Cook climbed the ladder for, which would have been a pick if Scaife was still there) but overall, quite impressed.

Its just nice after the VY era to have someone you know is working his ass off and being a good leader.

As for the Mallet thing...

He is not that good, or at least wasn't in college. If a team that actually NEEDED him to perform, it wouldn't have worked all that well I think.

What will happen is this. He will ride the bench in NE. He will look great in a couple of games when Brady isn't playing, like week 17 or something. Then they'll trade him for a first or second, like Schaub, Cassell or Kolb. He may be a good QB by then, under Brady's tutleage, who knows.

When did Ryan Mallet become a franchise QB? And for the record Ryan Mallet is NOT the type of QB Carroll wants to run this offense. Locker would have been a risk I would have taken in the top 10 had the hawks been in that position (in fact they should have been in that position). So in five years we'll know whether or not winning the West at 7-9 and beating the Saints was worth missing both Gabbert and Locker.

Coaching is very important, obviously, but if you do not have the horses does it matter?. Remember, even the "great" Holmgren was on the verge of being run out town in 2002/2003 before Hass and co. developed. Give Carroll and Bevell a few more years to dig out of the shite pile left by Tim Ruskell and develop the horses we need.

No he couldn't. He was getting his arse handed to him by Mark Anderson (in both the reg season game and the playoff game) who was a one year wonder with the Bears and this was the year the Bears went to the SB. Since then, his play had only deteriorated....but what can one expect from delusional seahag owners

Ok game # 2. What are you looking for tonight? Personally, I want to see Carpenter and Moffitt contine to grow on the right side of the line. I also want to see how the secondnry plays. Lots of young talent over there. Let's see who steps up and flashes. In the no duh category, I want to see TJAX do something (anything) and I want see if Aaron Curry is going to prove me wrong in my bust assessment.

as a CAR Panther fan and homer, i'd rather have any of the top3 QB prospects coming out next year than Cam Newton - and SEA looks to be well entrenched in the Suck for Luck contest right now...

Anyway, real question for the SEA homers - what's the story on S Rice? Is TJax just not able to get him the ball? any camp news? It's like it's been dead quiet on him since he signed w/ SEA...

I've got him as a #2/3 WR and don't want to start him wk1 w/o seeing some sort of chemistry w/ their starting QB...

Thanks.

Seahawks’ Sidney Rice reels in catches, praise

Seahawks: Receiver turning heads in practice, ready to face old team Saturday

ERIC D. WILLIAMS; Staff writer

Last updated: August 15th, 2011 12:24 PM (PDT)

RENTON – If you’re looking for Sidney Rice to provide some bulletin-board material, don’t bother.

The 24-year-old receiver was all gum drops and rainbows in talking about his former team, the Minnesota Vikings, who by coincidence will be the opponent in his first game with the Seattle Seahawks. The Vikings travel to Seattle for Saturday’s second exhibition game for both teams, at CenturyLink Field.

“It’s football,” he said. “No matter who’s on the other side, I’m a Seahawk now. And I’m going to war with those guys and the 12th Man this week. So that’s all that matters.”

Rice said he still talks frequently with former teammates Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin, along with Minnesota receivers coach George Stewart.

And so far on the practice field for Seattle he’s been as good as advertised, making several highlight reel catches during training camp, and drawing praise from both players and coaches for his play.

“I think he’s just loaded with those kinds of plays,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “He’s really, really talented. And he loves to compete in practice, which just fits so beautifully with the way we approach it. He’s embracing this opportunity to show who he is, and how he fits in and how we can count on him.”

Seahawks receivers coach Kippy Brown said that Rice has elevated the overall play of the receiver group.

“It’s been great working with him,” Brown said. “This is not Sidney’s first rodeo. He’s been there. This guy has made plays in this league, and been on good football teams. And he knows how to play.”

One of the players who has benefited from Rice’s arrival is on the defensive side of the ball – veteran cornerback Marcus Trufant. The two have regularly squared off in one-on-one and team drills during training camp, and Trufant is beginning to win his share of the battles.

The heightened competition appears to have elevated Trufant’s play, because he held his own against athletic San Diego receiver Vincent Jackson last week.

“I feel like going against Tru is only going to get me better, and visa-versa” Rice said. “Around here we like to compete, day in and day out. And we want to give each other 110 percent when we line up across from each other, and we look forward to it everyday.”

The Viking d-line kicked our ass. That should be expected at this point.

Tavaris handled himself ok, but did nothing special. Minnesota's starting offense didn't do much.

I wonder if Tate will ever figure it out.

He was untouched on the big sack on McNabb but Raheem Brock looks like he can't wait for the season to start.

I know he ran well at the combine, but I didn't know Ponder was that fast. He could at least be as good as Whitehurst (with a weaker arm).

He was on a roll, but I dont understand the point of leaving Whitey in so long against the scrubs. I wanted to see Portis get more time.

I think Anthony McCoy is going to be gooooood! We might have the most TE depth in the league.

Add Aaron Curry to this list. These guys might be out the league in a year or two.

Carpenter and Moffit were ok, not great. Richard Sherman really stood out to me last night. His name was mentioned a lot. TJAX, well, the line didn;t do him any favors but he still made nothing happen either. He is what he has always been. Aaron Curry? A joke. Thanks Ruskell!

Mallet has the talent to be one.

Carroll does not want a QB with a strong arm who can make every NFL throw to run his system? Interesting.

He has issues for sure, but could have been had in the 2nd round. It could very well be a mistake to miss out on that is all I was saying.
