It's an EXCITING Time to be a Seahawks Fan

Recommended Posts

Since I was boycotting this site during the draft, let me just state that the most recent draft that just took place I graded out as an F-.

It was a steaming hunk of crap. I hadn't even been that harsh in judgment for any of the Ruskell drafts. We made Whitsitt look like a genius. Bring back Ken Behring. Every pick was a HUGE reach, and half the players I did not have on my top 400 players available. It was a disgrace to watch us take two absolute stiffs on offensive line, and then draft projects the rest of the way. None of the projects will be contributors, ever. It was watching D1ck Van Dyke trip over the same dam ottoman every dam time. Drafting to fill niches. A tall WR for the red zone. A LB that has long arms. Corners that can't run or cover. Ever hear of trying to draft every down players, or at least guys that might play more than 4 snaps a game if they aren't inactive or the practice squad? Why not grab a long snapper in back to back rounds. And how the hell do you not address the biggest need on the team, the defensive line? The second biggest need was defensive secondary. Hell, the offensive line wasn't in the top 3 of most important parts of the team to upgrade for the last offseason.

I was embarrassed by the effort of Carroll and Schneider. Why don't they understand the concept of value? Jumping Jehosophat, we lucked into Okung and Thomas last year, as it now looks. Look at the rest of that draft. Did we add much else? We are currently the 4th best team in the division, and the future looks bleaker than an Edgar Allen Poe tale. I haven't slept in 4 months. I have no expectations as we go through the motions and win 4 games behind the uninspired play of "Close My Eyes and Pray It's a Completion" Touchdown Jesus or maybe that stiff of a QB that washed out in Minnesota behind the best offensive line in football and Adrian Petersen running the ball. Wheeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! Are we having fun yet? Stop this world, I want to get off.

The D1ck Van Dyke thing cracked me up.

Everything I have read and seen on Carpenter has been good. He was being mocked late 1st, early second by plenty of people leading up to the draft. Just a very unflashy, unsexy pick.

After Carpenter you could be right. I think Durham could be a diamond, but he along with every other pick has serious bust potential. I'm definitely more optimistic then you are, but I too fear things could get very, very ugly.

With how young the team is and the brutal schedule, getting back to 7 wins would be a move in the right direction.

how come I am hearing that Tavaris has already signed a contract? I thought free agents couldnt sign til Friday?

He hasn't signed anything yet, it just seems very likely. <_<

Players can "agree to terms" right now, they just can't sign until Friday at 6 pm EST.

He hasn't signed anything. It sounds like mis-information. Teams are free to negotiate with teams but signings can't be made official until Friday at 6:00 PM Eastern.

This is almost like a recruiting period in college, until the contract is signed these are just verbal agreements between players and teams.

Tarvaris Jackson/Charlie Whitehurst to Sidney Rice/Mike Williams with Marshawn Lynch in the backfield. That's a sure path to the Superbowl again.

Tarvaris Jackson ??? And that's our top move! OH MY what is wrong with us.

I guess the good thing is we are not giving up picks. hahahah

What a waist though. Get ready for the Whitehurst show now cause this bum won't beat him out.

Leinart next? GOD

I'm questioning our front office and staff once again. I see NO GOOD PLANS with the draft/Letting Hass go/This?

We should have just focused on a different possition all together. Corner? Or Got S. Rice locked up first not Tarvaris.

I don't know...

I think getting Tarvaris was easy and necessary. Matt made it be known early after the lockout period ended that he wasn't returning and we brought someone in who knew the OC's offense already. And I'm thinking Tarvaris came cheap...an unrestricted free agent who nobody was in a bidding war for. It's just one move so far (it just so happened to be one of the first moves during this supposed "unprecedented" FA period therefore garnering a little too much attention).

Also, last I read the Hawks are still trying to get Sidney Rice but Minnesota is also making offers to him.

They must really want Andrew Luck next year.

SEA 0-16?

Well...the 49ers did re-sign Alex Smith so we could potentially be 2-14.

I'm calling:

They resign Mebane, and sign Rice and Gallery.

That'll leave them with enough left for their draft picks and filling out the rest of their roster.

Don't forget guys. This is a rebuilding process that's focussed on youth.

Carroll got rid of all the older guys (I think except for Trufant).

Got the payroll in good shape. Implemented his system. And focused his energy on great special teams play.

In year 1.

It looks like this year, (year 2) he's doing the O-line and defense.

Assuming this is a success. Let him fill in the blanks on offense next year.

I know having a crappy team sux. But this was a total rebuild from top to bottom. There's no way I'm grading these guys until next year.

A total rebuild is a 3 year process. Don't let last years fluke playoffs rush it.

Strong rumors are indicating that Seattle will snag either Robert Gallery or Tyson Clabo.

Okung, Gallery/Clabo, Unger, Carpenter, Moffit.

I suppose we will run the ball 85% of the time next year, and then do a QB draw the other 15%. Hey, I guess it makes sense to pursue Rice. End arounds by the bushel, and somebody needs to run them. Personally, I rooting for Isaiah Stanback to win the QB job, so we could go wishbone and wildcat on every other play. Scratch that. Run the Air Force/Navy/GeorgiaTech offense. An option hybrid.

Oh, the madness that is Pete Carroll. Sure, we will give up points on every possession on defense. Thurmond, Chancellor, and Thomas in their second years, and a rookie undrafted free agent corner, to be named, in the backfield. We have Cole and Clemmons under contract for defensive line, and that's about it, I think. Nobody that can stop the run, and one guy to rush the passer on the entire roster.

But we will win the time of possession in every game this year, and that's something.

OK, OK. I get it. We are still going to make another 396 moves before training camp opens. Maybe we will have a shot to win as many as 5 games this year. I guess Tom Cable has convinced Carroll and Schneider that you need to sink half your salary cap into the offensive line and a QB is a mere bag of shells. So far, my perception is that we are Japan and this offseason and draft are a tsunami. The season is only a month away. All hands on deck. Dam. I guess I better make that Lynch run my screen saver. It won't be that good for quite some time. Again.

Olindo Mare gone. The franchise.

Will Herring gone to New Orleans. Remember when LB used to be the strongest unit on this team. Now, it's shaky and has zero depth. Hawthorne and.... :dunno:

I BET we don't land S. Rice!!! We got T. Jackson instead.

(Should have focused just the opposite)

And building young is great - needed - But, you need to build with good players too! T. Jackson is a Waste.

And probably Whitehurst too, although I still hold some glipse of hope.

Lienart - MORE WASTE.

I actually like the 2 Oline guy's of the draft - But, all the picks WERE reaches. I'm fine with building the line.

See what happens, but I'm seeing the A. Luck sweepstakes as our best bet!

And Trufont should have been one of the FIRST Vet's gone, not the last.

We should get in the Aso/CB sweepstakes, then I'd be happy.

I hear ya...I don't love the Tarvaris move but I understand it.

He knows the offense already, he's young, athletic, has some starts under his belt and only cost $8 million for 2 years. Almost a no-brainer...

And as Sho Nuff already posted, it looks like we signed Robert Gallery to a three year deal. I like how that line is shaping up.

I am pretty happy about the Gallery move... But, he is 31 with injuries becoming the norm.

But, it does give us a good vet with leadership/knows system. I'm fine with this move. Shapes up our Oline.

Gable wanted him I'm sure.

Seems like his new coaches are running the show though and picking guy's from there old teams.

That does not sit all that well with me, esspecially when it could have been S. Rice OR Aso instead?

Our team needs "quality/youth/probowl type players" - We are getting the lower tier free agents from Minn./Oakland instead of the good ones.

While I appreciate the complete radical overhaul and improvement of the offensive line, really, I do, from a revolving door of dreck into one of great potential, one that won't be realized for a year or two since we will be starting a couple of rookies afterall, can someone point out one single position on this roster we have improved other than the offensive line this offseason. I spent a little bit of time considering this, in between stretches of hyperventilating into a brown paper bag, and for the life of me, I can't think of one single position. Starting, contributing, hell, just being on the active roster.....frustrating. Sigh. I don't see progress in acquiring talent. We just don't have much young talent to develop. And we didn't get much this year. Last year, we added some good pieces. I'm not seeing pieces this year. I keep seeing Nick Saban with his jaw wide open, staring off into the wild blue yonder in disbelief that Carpenter was selected in the first round. He was laughing at us. Sigh.

Brandon Stokley just signed with Washington. He was our 2nd best WR. Rats jumping off a sinking ship. Lots of rats. They are running for the life rafts. :overhead:

I'm a little surprised Herring wasn't resigned, I've always liked him. Do we have any linebackers that can cover? Other then Tatupa and the short 7th round pick out of USC?

I was also hoping we'd sign one of the younger guards. Gallery is a beast when healthy but I'm kind of flashing back to last year's Ben Hamilton signing. Also, I wouldnt have been totally against Polumbus starting at guard. If Gallery can stay active and has 3 years left in the tank it's a good signing.

Too bad about Leinart. Call me crazy, but I think after having his ego stomped on the past couple seasons maybe he could start to harness some of his god given talent, especially with his old college coach. If you're going to have a 10 cent QB competition then it might as well be a three-way. Any one of these guys could stick around for a few years as a backup once we finally select "the guy".

Apparently Leinart agreed, then backed out. Hey, until you ink it, it's all tentative. I thought this would be the place for him to try to succeed, but I guess he don't want to be elevated beyond a backup to Schaub.

Seen in three different places that Sidney Rice is a done deal if he passes his physical on Friday. Minnesota just didn't have the cap room. I guess WR will be improved this year too. Obamanu is OK, but Golden Tate better pickup a playbook this year instead of spending all his free time breaking into doughnut shops. Butler still stinks, and on top of that is injured. We will be picking through the trash heap again this year. Still, Rice and Mike Williams isn't bad. I just wish Stokley was in the slot instead of Tate. That guy was such a professional and a security blanket for QBs.

I was glad Stokely was let go. If Tate is going to put it together we need him on the field and with Stokely being so good at what he does it would be hard for a green guy like Golden to surpass him. Too bad Stokely couldnt latch on to a contender, the dude is still money on 3rd down.

Sidney Rice would be fantastic. Along with the TE's the qb we draft in 2012 will have a nice set of targets to throw too while playing behind one of the youngest offensive lines in the league. While this season has the potential to be brutal, I like that the team has a plan and is building a foundation. Beats the hell out of the Washington Redskin's approach.

Also, I forgot to mention that I too was baffled we didn't get some defensive line help in the draft. The most physically impressive crop of rookies ever and we completely ignored it. That right there is my biggest gripe of the off season.

i was more excited about Leinart than T-jack. too bad for seattle.

T Jack is neither a scrub not servicable. Is stop gap journeyman a decent description?

Carroll has talked about mobile QBs since he took over. Maybe not blatantly, in respect for Hass, but he wants versatility. Hass's big assets where accuracy, and being able to look through his progressions. Which neither Whitehurst nor Jackson can do. The play calling better be top notch. Honestly, I don't hate the signing of Tavaris Jackson, other than having to type out Scrabble winning letters every time. He might be OK, but he is not our future. He is the fat chick in a bar we bang before we date a hot broad that we eventually foul in many weird and creative ways.

Plus, since Sydney Rice, another guy with weird syllables in his name, list this Tavaris guy as his best friend. It's bait to get a better player. Actually, that is clever, like a college team hiring a high school coach for their staff a year before that HS coach's son, the star QB, has to make a decision about which college to attend.

It is what it i......no, I'm not going to do that. That phrase gives me the tampon chills. Brrrrrr.

I love that we decided to fix the O-line it was way overdue and it's not like anything after the 2nd round is a sure thing its all a crapshoot then anyways. Everyone always wants the flashy picks QB, WR, RB but I think the key is solid picks along the lines since we are rebuilding first and foremost. If we can sign Mebane and Joseph (CB from Bengals) we will solidify the defense considerably.

With a young O-line it was only going to be a matter of weeks before Hasselbeck got killed anyways, why not see what we can do with Tavaris and Whitehurst over a full season. It's not like we need to be incredible on offense to win the NFC west.

If it all falls apart we get to draft the QB of the future next year and have a solid O-line, running game with a decent defense.

I think as long as we can keep the energy from last year up it should be a fun team to support no matter what. I'm just happy they finally got this lockout thing settled.

Sidney Rice agrees to terms with the Seahawks for 5 year deal - Jay Glazer

I stand corrected!!! I honestly didn't think we would land S. Rice.

It's amazing what a couple hours can do. :) I'm actually full ON BOARD now! I understand we are rebuilding and it will take time, but we are moving now. I LOVE that we are being this active.

S. Rice to me was a HUGE need we just filled. He complements big mike perfect, and can be our #1. He can get deep, knows the system, gives us quality catches and all the routes, and you can build you're franchise around him and he's young. I think he is for real. This was a great move! Tate can become our #3 and slot. But, if not I actually have high hopes on our rookie wide in filling the slot role as well.

Plus, I'm not sold on Big Mike still. He needs to keep proving his worth. I really like our wides now.

I also now can better understand the T. Jackson move. Plus I have to admit he is young and mobile if nothing else. But, giving up no picks was the right move. Now we can move on from Hass and see what we have.

I already liked the Oline move plus draft. Plus the new coach for them.

We are going the right direction. We need to improve that Def some how still.

No offense, but if you sign Tavaris Jackson and Matt Leinart....how are you going in the right direction? Why not keep Hasselbeck, bring in a young kid who has a shot to be great and let him learn for a year or two under Matt?

It looks to me like Seattle is gonna have a great shot to land the #1 pick next year and get Andrew Luck! If you are relying on Fat Mike Williams to be complimented by Sidney Rice your team is in trouble!

I'm a Broncos fan, so at least I can say you guys are doing something! Denver is the one team that will prevent you from getting the #1 pick, cause they may go 0-16...terrible, they are simply terrible!!

despite the many moves made by the seahawk i still have more faith in the 49'ers and Rams. 49'ers are a better club as a whole and the Rams have a solid young team only liable to grow. but with that said any tam can still win that division.

As a Hawks fan, I dont know how many times this past decade that I've heard the 49ers are better. Frank Gore's holding out, Takeo left, rookie head coach and they've re-signed Alex Smith. I like the Hawk's chances again...

I also like the Rams but they've barely made any moves this (albeit short) FA period.

Moving in the right direction doesn't mean winning this year - You have to have some peaces to the puzzle. S. Rice and an Improved Oline are BIG peaces to the puzzle. T. Jackson is a stop gap player, but at least gives us some excitement, Mobility, and Youth for right now. Hass is DONE, even though I liked him for competing in this division.

I think Whitehurst might actually start.

But, not giving up picks for Kolb, etc. was the right move in my view. There was no franchise QB in free agency I think. Plus, I think we need a young future guy. I would love LUCK. SO if we suck, then I'm all for that really. But, there is like 4 good QB's I think next year.

But, Rice is moving us in the right direction and we might not be done. We are moving. That's huge for us.

The Oline is improving in a big way.

I'm thinking long term - Not short term.

But, with Rice we will be "sneaky" good. (As good as we can get right now)

I had Rice as maybe the top free agent wide. (Plus V. Jackson is kept)

I'm not sure it's financially possible to do either. Jackson, Gallery, Rice. We still have to sign our draft pick and need to fill out over a third of our roster. Factoring in minimum value salaries for a lot of the remaining roster, we are going to have a tight fit to sign enough guys to field a roster.

Our defense got a d!ck in the ass this offseason. Got worse, much worse.

Eh, I guess 'ole Pete decided to concentrate on making the offense better, yet one dimensional, while watching the defense and special teams fall apart at the seams.

My only problem is I think the QB position is so important. Not just for their ability on the field, but their leadership, face of the franchise...if your QB is a joke then usually the team doesn't respond. Leinart and Jackson are both bad IMO, I think your best bet would be to have Whitehurst start. At least he doesn't have anything negative around him, just inexperience. However, you never know!! Leinart could come back with avengence under Carrol, Jackson could eat up this second chance.

I agree on the OLine moves...so important!! Keep moving forward, hope it pays off for ya!!

I can't see us fitting much more either, but I still like what we are doing overall.

Our Def has been D!ck anyway. We have to many holes to count there. But, 1,2,3 and out on Off does not help them one bit. That only makes things worse. Some sustained drives and scores will do wonders for them.

A great shutdown corner is what we need the most. Although re-signing Mebane really should be on our list still. Our LB's were so over-rated. I feel our Def is a mess, but that needs to improve through the drafts for now.

Why not work on you're offense/Line and at least show excitement in scoring. Plus our Div. is weak enough for a bad Def to be managable.

Not sure how Special teams is effected? I think they have improved since Holmgren days. We still have a playmaker with L. Washington.

Playmakers in L. Washington, S. Rice, with solid players like Big Mike and Lynch to pound the rock - Improved Oline. I'm getting it.

It would be nice if Tate could be a playmaker too. Forsett has some ability too
