Ok, I have to admit it did just get a bit more exciting to be a Seahawks fan with the addition of Sidney Rice. It's a good move on their part.

I'm calling:

They resign Mebane, and sign Rice and Gallery.

That'll leave them with enough left for their draft picks and filling out the rest of their roster.

Tavaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst as QB

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

It must be so exciting to be a seahag fan ..... especially after getting their brains beaten in by the Bears in the playoffs last year.

While I appreciate the complete radical overhaul and improvement of the offensive line, really, I do, from a revolving door of dreck into one of great potential, one that won't be realized for a year or two since we will be starting a couple of rookies afterall, can someone point out one single position on this roster we have improved other than the offensive line this offseason. I spent a little bit of time considering this, in between stretches of hyperventilating into a brown paper bag, and for the life of me, I can't think of one single position. Starting, contributing, hell, just being on the active roster.....frustrating. Sigh. I don't see progress in acquiring talent. We just don't have much young talent to develop. And we didn't get much this year. Last year, we added some good pieces. I'm not seeing pieces this year. I keep seeing Nick Saban with his jaw wide open, staring off into the wild blue yonder in disbelief that Carpenter was selected in the first round. He was laughing at us. Sigh.

Brandon Stokley just signed with Washington. He was our 2nd best WR. Rats jumping off a sinking ship. Lots of rats. They are running for the life rafts. :overhead:

Filthybear jumping off the ledge? BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.... BUT I was told this was a real exciting time to be a seachicken fan! They did win the division last year only to get raped like a $1 ###### on a sail boat by the Bears. And then they followed it up by takign a scrub at OL in the draft over Gabe Carimi and then followed it up with Tavaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst....how can this NOT be EXCITING?

I cannot wait to watch the Bears split the seahag vagina again later in the year at Soldier Field. That game might be over by the end of the 1st quarter too .... like the playoffs shellacking last year! Have a nice day!

They were rebuilding while staying competitive. Any talk on Whitehurst is lip service. They realized in practices last year that they made a mistake. The QB of the future isnt on the team yet and Whitey is an expensive emergency plan. Plus, the playoff feel-good stuff was probably beneficial to the younger players.

I probably would have played my youth at the expense of wins, but kudos to the team for not packing it in like certain other teams in the division.

Then why did they spend so much money on Whitehurst? Oh yes, because they SUCK hind ######. Nice trade and extension....Tavaris Jackson? BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Yep - now alls they need is a real quarterback, a real running game, and a good defense. Then, they'll be all set to go 8-8!

"Brandon Mebane - DL -

Seahawks According to Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times.

The Seahawks have now made re-signing DT Brandon Mebane their "No. 1 priority" in free agency.

We haven't heard much movement on the Mebane front since a number of reports on interested teams trickled out late last night. Mebane was a top-notch run stuffer in Pete Carroll's defense last year, even if his sack numbers were down. The Broncos are believed to be Seattle's main competition. The Rams have sniffed around the situation, but don't seem willing to pay up."

Gobble  Gobble

Plus they have resigned Micheal Robinson.

Something I didn't think they'd do. But am very happy they did.

The guy is a very good football player. And will do whatever is asked of him. FB,RB,Surprise QB, ST.

The guy is very valuable.

Sweet news on Mebane. I thought for sure he'd be gone.

I also thought Robinson would walk. I wonder if this means we aren't in the marked for a traditional, smash-mouth fullback?

I'm not so sure the NFL even uses that type of player anymore.

It's a circle of life, and it'll come back. But for now it's the 2 back system. Split carries, scat back, gimic roles that are the here and now.

I think the days of Rathmen/Craig, Moose/Emmitt, even Strong/Alexander are gonnabe gone for a little longer.

Once a team wins back to back Superbowls pounding the ball. And we have a clear cut fantasy stud #1 RB again. That'll be the talk of the town, and back to where we started.

True, but I think Cable used an old-school FB in Oakland. I dont want to drop a bunch of money on a Vonta Leach but sniffing around for the next Vonta Leach could be nice.

Carrying 5 backs is a little excessive but they might view Robinson more as a special teams guy.

Also, with all the draft picks spent on the secondary I hope we avoid the likes of Cromartie and Joseph. Throw the kids into the fire.

I hope you get the turkey Kopy!!! I think Mebane should be the #1 priority now too. We need to resign him.

Ugh I would hate to get Cromartie what a depressing thought (too much talk and not enough backing it up), but we need a legit #1CB. I think it would really stabilize our secondary by bumping Trufant down to the #2CB slot where he probably should be.

I think if we sign Mebane we probably can't afford Joseph but our secondary does still need some help. We could also use a safety besides Earl Tomas, a veteran to help teach the kid up to his potential. That could work as well sign a veteran safety throw the kids to the wolves at CB and then draft at QB,CB next year.

On an unintentional comedy note how funny would it be to sign Nate Clements? He might even bring a copy of San Fran's new playbook with him. :overhead:

Looks like we landed Alan Branch

 Love this signing! You can never have enough big bodies. Our run defense fell off a cliff when Bryant, Cole and Mebane started missing games. Cole and Bryant are both recovering from injuries. After completely ignoring the d-line in the draft this signing is just what we need.

Excluding Tarvarias, these have been some pretty good signings.

I am scared this Alan Branch signing was because management got a bad vibe on Mebane. He is going to have a lot of suitors, STL, CHI, DEN all could really use someone like Mebane.

Edit: ESPN is now reporting Mebane re-upped with Seattle, nice! :overhead:

I have no dog in the seahawk hunt. Don't care about them at all.

That said, I have yet to see any indication that Pete Carroll has a freaking clue what he is doing. They seem to have a "Let's sign every mediocre non-entity in the league and see if anything happens" strategy. Neither of those QB's has impressed me as a quality starter. The defense is a joke. The line was terrible, we'll see if the rookie pans out, but he was not the one I would have chosen.

Just sayin.

Sidney Rice is a mediocre non-entity?

Obviously, Seattle is focusing on building their line and if you watched them attempt to run the ball last year you'd know why. Carpenter wasn't a big name, but he's versatile and very polished for a rookie tackle. He definitely wasn't a reach at the end of the first round, no matter what the Kiper tells you.

What QB's have been available to Seattle? Jimmy Clausen? Andy Dalton? Derek Anderson? The only guys I even wanted them to consider the last two years were Koepernick (raw, bit of a project. would have been more of a reach at 25 then Carpenter. Wasnt available in the second round) and Mallett (major character concerns and zero mobility making him incompatible with this offense). Everybody is focusing in on the Tarvarias Jackson signing, but the guy's a temporary stopgap!! He's a cheap, mobile veteran who knows the offense, has 20 starts on his resume and is best friends with the new #1 receiver. He was signed to a whopping 2 year contract. Whitehurst (who Seattle definitely overpaid for) is already in his last year. The QB of the future isn't on the team yet. I understand quarterback is the most important position on the field but doesn't that mean some thought and patience should be put into selecting the right guy?

And please, don't mention Kolb. We all saw what the price was on him. How many quarterbacks have looked good playing in Philly the past decade? We'll see how that works out for the Cards.

And please, dont think I'm at all endorsing what we will be running out there this year at quarterback. The position is dirty, rotten, stinking, moldy, sweaty ass. Remember that scene in The Hangover, at the hospital with the obese old guy? Our QB situation is lodged up in there. No different then the last three seasons.

Ok. You seem to agree then. And I wasn't talking about rice, that was a nice pick. Upon giving it further thought, I agree that they really haven't had a good QB to pursue. I agree that Kolb is being way overpaid. Anybody who couldn't beat out McNabb, and then got beat out by a guy straight out of prison ain't worth what the Cards are paying.

And I do generally admire teams that don't panic and grasp for a need that isn't there.

I just saw a lot of kool aid drinking in this thread.

Just homerism. I'm not necessarily excited about this season, but the front-office has shown some long-term thinking.

We also have a great owner. He'll give Carroll the time he needs as long as he keeps showing progress.

So it's a four-year rebuilding plan at the QB spot? Not trying to pile on, but I couldn't agree with TBBOM any more than I do. After a 7-9 season and a playoff win, I think the Hawks are worse off than they were last year. Hasselbeck basically carried that team to victory in the playoffs, although I will give credit where credit is due. But basing your FA haul on Sidney Rice who is coming off of a pretty major hip injury is grasping at straws. It's also a blow to the fans as, from my perspective, Hasselbeck was the face of the franchise. I think Carroll is in over his head.

So a couple good games in the playoffs make up for completely sucking ass the last three seasons? You can't blame all of that on Hasellbeck, but he shoulders a lot of it. He's 36. Not a Peyton Manning/Kurt Warner/Brett Favre 36, an ordinary person with average arm-strength 36. Other then serving as a stopgap for one more season Hassellbeck wasn't doing anything for the franchise other then being his usual, personable self.

The team is rebuilding while not doing anything hasty, reactionary or drastic at QB. When we do bring in the young guy of the future, he should be walking into a much brighter situation.

Also, Im basing our Free agent haul off of Rice, Robert Gallery, Alan Branch and resigning Brandon Mebane. We aren't Superbowl bound but that's still not too shabby. Everybody is around 25, and the lone "old" guy is Tom Cable's boy.

I have no idea how you can think we're worse off then last year, you obviously don't follow the team very closely.

Are you saying trading for Orton or Kolb would have made this offseason a success? What would you have done?

I'm not sure what I would have done. Kolb was probably too high a price, but Orton would be a good move. I'd also make an inquiry into Carson Palmer, despite what that dumbass Brown says about not trading him. But I definitely wouldn't have signed Tavaris who is likely not even an upgrade to Whitehurst. My chief complaint is that QB has been an area of concern for the last 3-4 years for the Hawks, and the only addressing they've done is bring in Whitehurst and Jackson in back to back years. I just don't see the same level of excitement.

Tarvaris was brought in because he only cost $8 mill for 2 seasons and already knew the new offense. Tennessee gave Matt $21 mill for 3 years!!

We'll draft our QB of the future next year and may even be able to protect him with how we're building our O-line.

This team has a lot of problems...can't fix it all in one offseason.

See? it's not the easiest situation to deal with! Instead of focking over their tenure gambling on somebody they aren't sure of, they've bided their time, making meager investments in the two assclowns we have at QB right now. And dont for a second think that a Palmer deal is dead. Mike Brown is going to play tough and try to maintain leverage, but something could always happen before the season starts. You know Carroll and him would love to reunite.

None of us Hawk fans are excited about what we currently have at the position, but I think I can speak for all of us when I say Im glad we havent done anything drastic. It's been frustrating but I like the foundation being built on offense in the meantime.

Edited to add that QB has been a problem for a while. 2009 would have been a great time to address it. Not sure how Sanchez would of faired in this environment, but it sucks watching Josh Freeman evolve into such a promising young QB. Hindsight being 20/20 and all...

everyone's got a boner for the rice pick, but I don't think its that great of a pick. By the time they get the qb situation right, Rice will be gone!

ALso, have no doubt, ole Petey boy is a deer in headlights if ever there was a deer in headlights in this world. Dude is 100% clueless. His strength lied in fielding an NFL team and playing against PAC 10 puffs. Nothing more, not even an ounce more. Might take another 2 years for seattle fans to figure this out, but trust me on this one. The team is a joke, and it starts with the head man. ANd there aren't enough middle of the road FAs they can sign that will change any of that...

You make 0 sense. Sorry.

Rice is young and will be a Seahawk for a number of years. We can build around him. It was a great move, Period.

Saying he will be gone by the time we have a QB is dumb. A QB possition can be fixed overnight with 1 simple move if not get the right young drafted guy.

I'm happy they are waiting to fix the QB possition. Nothing good was out there. We need peaces around the QB first!

We have allot of holes.

Anyway, my main point for this post:

WE GOT MEBANE RE-SINGED!!!!!!! (Kopy = TURKEY - :) nice call

Another solid move by the Hawks - GOOD JOB!

I hope they have some more tricks up there sleeve still. Love to keep adding talent if we can afford it. We've done allot already though. Maybe Samuel from Phily somehow? ;)

I would actually be ok with trading some picks for a top notch corner and then demote Trufont to #2.
