handbanana 47 Posted November 24, 2011 As a Lion's lifer, I am appalled at the effort put out there today. Terrible play by Stafford, awful play-calling by Linehan, disgusting penalties on defense and ridiculous officiating to boot. Every year, it's the same ol sh!t. "No, this year is going to be different!" But it never is. And, to add massive insult to injury, in a must win game for me in fantasy to get into the playoffs, I start Stafford, Calvin and K Smith. Thanks guys. Focktards Happy Thanksgiving to all of us long suffering Lions fans, hope your day is better the rest of the way!

DonS 3,331 Posted November 24, 2011 And, to add massive insult to injury, in a must win game for me in fantasy to get into the playoffs, I start Stafford, Calvin and K Smith. Thanks guys. Focktards It could be worse. You could've started Stafford, Calvin, and HANSON like me. All those penalties to take them out of FG range, and then he misses his only attempt. Edit: I wish he got me a goose egg. That miss is negative points in my league.

handbanana 47 Posted November 24, 2011 Garbage TD to Calvin! Plus a Hanson XP. Yeah, that garbage TD from Staff to Mega helped me in this game potentially. However, the Lions still were embarrassed on Thxgiving again, and since real football matters to me more than fantasy, I take little solace from that late score. God, it's hard to be a Lion's fan, even when they are 7-4. Suh is living up to the dirty rep, Tulloch's late pile-on hit may have taken out our best CB Houston for the year, and K Smith gave us false hope only to dash them upon the rocks yet again. Happy Thanksgiving, we were overcome in The D!! I hope

Walter34 3 Posted November 26, 2011 Serious question for the normal Lions fans: Is Schwartz part of the probem with regards to discipine, composure and mental prep? Passion is one thing but when the tagline is "beat themselves" that is on the coach. I'm not suggesting that they fire him by any stretch. He appears better than the last 10 coaches Det has had. However, he needs to mature and channell the talent and effort in the right direction.
RoadLizard 73 Posted November 26, 2011 Yeah, the game should have been better but it was marred by an absurd amount of penalties, poor play, and just a bad effort by the LieDowns. The Cowboys game wasn't much better as Witten and Bryant owners had to watch that jack hole Robinson become Romos new favorite target. Ugh! Then, to top off an already miserable set of games, they stick us with two most unwatchable teams in the league - The 49 ers and The Ravens. Boring offenses, stifling defenses, no star players, bleh. Isn't it about time for some other teams to get some Thanksgiving day games? This has been debated for years but they really should look at this next year. I know the Ford family and Emperor Jones will argue against it but it's what the people want. Fock Detroit and Dallas getting the games every year. What kind of crap is that anyways? Arsenal 3 Posted November 26, 2011 Isn't it about time for some other teams to get some Thanksgiving day games? Its somewhat ironic because all 3 games were actually relevant to the playoff picture and we had a more meaningful set of games than we have had in a long time. I'll never complain about watching the Packers win, but I will give you that it was not the most exciting game with GB basically able to easily win the game by playing one good quarter of football (3rd). The Dallas game was at least close, even if it was a bit ugly.

I love what Scwartz has done with this team in a relatively short amount of time, especially in the assembling of talent, but the talent clearly lacks discipline on both side of the ball. Yesterday, on Sirius Radio, Schwartz talked about the need to keep your composure on game day. But, as many of us speculated after the Harbaugh incident, it's difficult to say to a group of men "do as I say, not as I do." When you lose your composure an embarass yourself and the organization like that chasing down another coach, your team is going to internalize that behavior. That, and the sideline fist-pumping, sh!t-talking to opposing players and coaches during the game, and consistently giving his defense a pass for stupid penalties as simply being "aggressive" has led to a situation where the inmates are running the asylum. Schwartz needs to lay the hammer down on this team and start benching guys who cross the line. Before that though, he needs to stand up and say "As the Head Coach of this team, it all starts with me. I have to do a better job getting this team ready to play and to be more disciplined and composed." It is one thing to talk about discipline and composure, it is another thing to actually do it. handbanana 47 Posted November 26, 2011 We have suffered for years watching this awful franchise, and now that there is hope, a few ignorant fans act like new money, i.e., nouveau riche, and seem unable to discern reality from fantasy. The reality is that the Lions have not won anything of any import in many many years, and so they need to go threw a period of growth to learn how to win. The Packers are already there, the Lions are not. To wit, the Lions got beat by the Packers on Thanksgiving. Soundly. It doesn't matter if the Lions "beat themselves" that is part of becoming a good team, not beating yourself. Sports are 95% mental at the highest levels, and finishing drives, not turning the ball over, not taking stupid penalties, keeping your composure are all part of the game just like passing and tackling. Hopefully we can get them back in week 17, but if not, we will try again next year.

Curiously, and mysteriously, my post and Swamp's reponse are now missing from this thread. Hmmmmm......... wtf? Let me restate my opinion. I find Swamp to be an embarrassment to most of us Lion's fans. We have suffered for years watching this awful franchise, and now that there is hope, a few ignorant fans act like new money, i.e., nouveau riche, and seem unable to discern reality from fantasy. Grow up Swamp, take the Lion's beating like a man like the rest of us. Hopefully we can get them back in week 17, but if not, we will try again next year. No need to act like a child on this bored any longer The mods are removing a lot of the Swamp bashing/Swamp talking thread. They are mostly unnecessary as most people know what is going on with him, and they are distracting from the more intelligent discussions. I had a whole thread of mine locked because the childish name calling got out of hand. Don't worry... I am a Packers fan, but I know most Bears, Vikes, and Lions fans are respectable people with some difference of opinions that are mostly based on fact not heart. remote controller 143 Posted November 27, 2011 This Suh situation is really sad. Such potential. Somebody has to reach this kid........I just don't know who that somebody could be. His Coach is not capable of mentoring. It was apparent during the opening drive of the third qtr. that this game had changed. That change caused Suh's actions. he didn't know how to respond and couldn't figure out how to channel his energy. The game was very predictable immediatley following the stomp. Walter34 3 Posted November 27, 2011 Suh didn't do any of this nonsense at Nebraska, not once. I blame Schwartz. 10 cent brain, talent, money, media hype all contribute. When you add in enablement where crossing the line is supported as "being agressive" by team leadership and that is the result. Schwartz has claimed that the Lions will not discipline him and that as of Friday, he hadn't seen the play in real time or replay. You would think he would be all over reviewing it with al the hubbub going on. :headscratcher:

My love for Bruce Springsteen makes me want to go old school and I can't help but think of a certain song, and just try to fathom Lombardi, Ditka or any of the other great coach being such a coward and enabler with him. He is a spoiled brat. A bully. Coddled and worshiped his whole wife. Living in his own world where even after millions see him laying on top of another man, slamming his head into the turf repeatedly and then stomping him with his metal cleats, he still thinks he did nothing wrong... He needs some serious tough love. Not going to get it with anybody in Detroit..

The conspiracy theorists here in Michigan already believe that teams are taking cheap shots at Suh because they know he is emotional or passionate enough to react in a negative way. I have even heard local radio hosts claim that the Packers lineman were shooting for his knees and that is why Suh reacted so aggressively... I'm sure that teams do what they can to provoke him, but regardless he needs to learn how to handle his emotions. He only hurts himself and his team when he reacts negatively. Captain Goomy Noomy Roo 53 Posted November 28, 2011 Yeah... too bad Lions are coming apart here at the end. I would like to have seen one playoff game this year. (that is all I expected) I was coming down the tunnel with stage equipment when I saw Kevin Smith come rolling through on a golf cart...not good. And then Suh has to go and be a dumb-a$$ and try to stomp a guy... what a turd (needs to be suspended) And what is up with Stafford and throwing pics all of a sudden? Get it together Lions! Yes, I am still here but frustrated. Notes from Turkey Day: The big flag ceremony was kool... but the stupit chick from American Idol screwed up the words to the anthem. I was one of the guys on the left side of the flag...third from the bottom. My son was with the scouts on the top side of the flag. On a funny note though... we ran over a Lions player with one of the stage pieces... ha ha he zagged when he shoulda zigged on his way out of the tunnel and ran into the stage ha ha. No harm though... he bounced up and ran out to the sideline. The reason the stage was stuck in the tunnel was because there was a photographer guy that passed out right in front of our stage train... they had to stop the whole train to take care of the guy. Got high fives from Terry Bradshaw, Howie, and Shannon as they were walking past our mosh-pit group. That was pretty cool. The Capn'
The Hood 9 Posted November 28, 2011 Suh didn't do any of this nonsense at Nebraska, not once. I blame Schwartz. Might be on to something.................guess who was Haynesworth's defensive coordinator when he did his stomping? Schwartz. again. But below are quotes was Suh's former Nebraska teammate and current Jets guard Matt Slauson which seem to indicate maybe he was an @ss all along. Slauson said there were at least two ugly incidents involving Suh and other players during practice at Nebraska that Slauson witnessed but that went unreported. Slauson said "I prefer not to say" when asked if those two practice incidents involved Suh stomping on teammates' limbs or similar cheap shots. But as a result of those acts and Suh's generally unpredictable temper, Slauson said Suh wasn't popular at all with his college teammates. "He was well-respected for his ability, but everybody kind of knew who he was," Slauson said. "He wasn't well-liked."
