***Official Seattle Seahawks Thread 2012***

Earl Thomas is the fastest guy in the secondary. His ability to close on a play is ungodly. It's just a matter of time before he returned one.

We came away healthy and made a bit of a statement embarrassing bad teams.

I can't WAIT to see Harbaugh and his golden boys in Seattle next week. Stars of Visa commercials do great up there.

I am very thankful for the hawks dominance today. It helped me from getting excessively mad about the two fantasy semifinal beatdowns that I received. Too bad New England is sucking it up tonight. Makes next week a bit less interesting. Still critical for us though.

I'm quickly becoming a Seahawks fan. Last week, their D was focking amazing and this week Wilson single-handedly got me 66 pts and I'm ahead by 33 (he has Greeene tomorrow night). Focking impressive team right now!

The Seahawks Have Arrived

By Mike Salk

The 2012 Seahawks have arrived.

I don't mean as a national contender. Yes, the pundits may now start to take notice, but they won't really take this team seriously until it beats San Francisco next Sunday. I'm not sure they'll believe Canadian wins count 100% anyway.

No, the 2012 Seahawks arrived because they now know exactly who they are and how they want to win.

They aren't just the gritty, defensive minded football team that began the year in Arizona hoping to limit possessions and make one extra play in the end. They aren't just the run-first offense that scored as many as 27 points just once in the first half of the year. They're not a dink and dunk offense. They aren't a bend-but-not break defense. Nor are they simply a read-option team or a play action team.

They are now a complete football team.

In the last two weeks, their offense has scored 87 points. Cool. But their defense has added 14 itself. And special teams came up with seven more.

They've put up 405 yards in the air, 554 more on the ground. And they've allowed just 487 total yards while forcing 11 turnovers.

Again, all marks of a complete football team.

That is what is setting the Seahawks apart. While teams like New England and Green Bay garner press with elite offenses, they struggle on the defensive side of the ball. The Seahawks belong to a small group of well-balanced teams that includes the 49ers and the Broncos.

The Seahawks can beat you in a physical battle. Just ask Chicago and Minnesota: two teams that hit as hard as anyone. They have the big nasties in the trenches to move the pile and the running backs to slide in behind them. They have the big corners and Kam Chancellor. They can beat you by physically dominating you and taking away your spirit.

But they can also win a finesse game. Ask the Bills, who were constantly confused trying to keep track of crossing routes, seams, read options and flea flickers. Russell Wilson picked them apart.

And that truly is the difference. While the defense has shown that it can limit points and even turn the tide with a well-timed turnover, it is more of a question mark than we thought it would be early in the season. But whereas the team that played the first eight games needed its defense to be perfect, the Seahawks can now overcome a few third down conversions against them.

Wilson has been a joy to watch. There are so many things to love about his game, but what stands out is his poise. There is a moment before each play where he surveys the defense and it just seems to click for him. It looks like he is so confident each time the ball is snapped. It's like he knows the secret the defense is still trying to guess. Sometimes that means playing read-option games with the over-aggressive pass rushers. Sometimes it's a quick screen, a slant or a play action fake. But like the great ones, Wilson seems to be playing one step ahead.

Does it mean that they should alter their philosophy? No. And I think Pete Carroll sending out his kicker from the one yard line shows that they will always aim to play it safe. They should. It is the way they were built.

But that architecture is starting to morph and mutate. Like the terminator, it learns more about its surroundings without losing its original purpose.

The 2012 Seahawks may not win the NFC West, may not get a first round bye, and may have the unenviable task of winning three games on the road to make it to New Orleans. But they have figured out who they are and how they want to win.

And they announced it in Buffalo.

Here's a quarter. Go call someone who cares.

You don't care that the Niners will take the Division on Sunday leaving Seattle to limp in with a WC spot and lose first round?

That was a gutsy win your team pulled out last night. They're good. Real good.

Seattle played them close earlier in the year down in Frisco. They're playing better ball now (Wilson especially) plus they are always better at home.

Should be a great game and I like Seattle's chances.

I think it's unrealistic to expect San Fran to win at New England, turn around and win at Seattle the next week. Knowing that Arizona is on deck and they can clinch the division rather easily by beating that reeling team, the Niners subconsciously know this is not a must win. For Seattle, this game takes on more importance than simply winning and clinching a playoff spot. It's a measuring stick game, at one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, home field advantages in the NFL. A Seattle team that has hit it's stride and all the players have settled into their roles. It's a perfect spot for a Seattle win, situationally.

Every game the past 2 seasons has been close to the end. They can't keep being won by the same team.

Hey that's more like it

It will be a tough game for both sides. I take comfort in now knowing even if we drop this game we can take the Division with a win at home against the Cards. One thing I am sure we can agree on. The Cards suck monkey nuts :overhead:

Which makes Detroit one of the worst teams ever

Well, Arizona was playing with a bit of pride yesterday after getting humiliated the previous week. Detroit just flat out quit on the season.

we lost to Detroit :shocking:

That's one that still bugs me too, especially since we gave up such a big day to Knucklehead Titus.

Hawks are almost a completely different team now...I think and hope.

Do you guys think you can beat the 49ers with the possibility of shurman getting suspended for 4 games...the decision is suppose to go down on friday..... You guys have to feel a little worried with crabtree/moss against some no name cb's dont ya?

The way hearings go, it might still get rescheduled, or the decision doesn't get made until next week.

Walter Thurmond and/or Marcus Trufant could play on Sunday. Thurmond lost his starting job due to injury, but looked real good replacing Browner 2 weeks ago. Trufant typically plays soft, but he's a veteran. As far as the young guys, Carroll was a defensive backfield guru and seems to keep coming up with really good players for the secondary. Maybe these young guys will play well. Of more concern is the rush defense, and the way Buffalo and Miami and Minnesota in the past few games have run easily at the heart of the defense, as did Gore in the first game vs Seattle this year. Doesn't help that DT Alan Branch probably won't play.

Yet, it's a home game, and the defense plays much, much better in that setting, no matter who starts. No worries. San Fran only got 13 points in the first matchup this year. I don't think they will put up a whole lot of points; they score against mostly bad defenses and slug it out with better defensive teams.

Lane and Maxwell have always looked good in the limited time they've played too. All signs are pointing to Sherman playing this week. Having Earl Thomas in the secondary helps too.

Kaepernick is the X-factor. A big reason Frisco won earlier this year was because the coaching staff kept strict reigns on Alex Smith. Gore hammered on the defense so only easy, short throws were necessary. The Niner offense is a completely different animal with Kaep under center. I say it every week but Clemons and Irvin need to be ready to go to work.

How is this NOT a must-win for San Fran? :dunno:

If they lose they drop down to a third seed and not only lose their bye and more potential home field advantage throughout the playoffs but have to play probably Minnesota or the Giants in a first-round match-up..... two teams, by the way, who's beaten the 49ers already by a combined score of 50-16...

Plus, San Fran is still in contention for the No. 1 seed

Plus, they most assuredly are trying to keep the momentum going to enter the playoffs hot (like the last bunch of Super Bowl champions did)...

Plus, Seattle is their huge division rivals and they are playing in an amped up environment on the late-night everybody's watching nationally televised game....

It's not even close to a must win. San Fran has a fall back plan. Lose the game, clinch against the rag tag Cardinals. This game is much more important on an emotional and playoff level for Seattle. San Fran clinched a playoff spot last week. If you don't think that is somewhat psychologically satisfying, then we have nothing further to discuss.

 Shiancoe

Are we going to own every castoff TE in the league? Is Jerramy Stevens in prison? Lets give him a call.

Well, with Shiancoe, I've sure they would ask Rice about his experiences with him in Minnesota's offense. Wait, isn't the O Coordinator the Minnesota guy? Hell, bring him in. I'm cool with it. I thought he was a decent receiving TE. I remember how he made Culpepper look good with his good hands the year after Moss traded.

Shiancoe won't be a Hawk. They added Sean McGrath from the practice squad.

Anyone here got the feeling that instead of the ground and pound. Lynch, Gore, Defensive slugfest we're expecting.

This could turn into the Wilson and Kaepernick show?
