Jackie Battle officially listed as the Chargers starting RB

Recommended Posts

I hope New Orleans blows them out this week.

We won't.

I'm starting Battle with confidence now!

So weird considering Battle averaged 2.6 yards against the Chiefs while Mathews averaged 4.4 on one less carry.

Turner is just working extra hard to get fired this season. SMH

Really? Just because he was named the starter doesn't change the fact that he sucks. Is your team really that bad that you have to start Battle?

Wasn't Evan Royster listed as Washington's starting RB at some point earlier this season?

:dunno:

In a word, yes. DMC and Doug Martin on byes. F-Jax and Spiller going against SF's run D? I'm not starting them both as my RB1 and 2. Battle against the shitty Saints D it is!

Ryan Matthews ought to be ashamed of himself. I had no interest in drafting him this year because of his injury. Glad I didn't. If Jackie Battle is ahead of you on the depth chart, you are a bum.

Most uninspiring fantasy player ever.

*pours out some liquor for this lame*

Yes.

It was Royster, Helu and Morris.

Morris got the start with Helu playing backups. Royster was 3rd.

Exactly. Never, ever trust the depth charts, even on official sites, when you are dealing with a wishy-washy coach.

I will start Mathews this week regardless, I have no choice

He'll still put up good numbers for you, even in a timeshare. Saints defense will get trashed. As long as he doesnt fumble, you're in good shape.

If some freaked out owner offered to trade you Mathews for another NFL team's second string running back who's been parked on your bench for the last four weeks, would you take the deal? Yeah, thought so. Next topic ...

A drunk cripple could run for 100/1 on that NO D, why wouldn't people be starting him?

Battle/Mathews machinations just semantics?

According to the Chargers, Jackie Battle vaulted Ryan Mathews on the team's official depth chart because "he just started last week, so that's why he's there." -- Michael Gehlken on Twitter

In other words, it's semantics. Although the Chargers' actions have officially gone beyond simple message sending, it's clear they're not on the verge of a sea change in the backfield. Battle's big week came against a non-competitive Chiefs team, and the 29-year-old spare part simply isn't talented enough to out-carry Mathews when games are on the line. Beat writer Michael Gehlken "wouldn't read into" the depth chart shenanigans, and believes it's "likely only a matter of time" before Mathews moves back ahead of Battle. However, Gehlken does expect Battle to remain involved in Week 5, perhaps as the goal-line back. That would be unideal for Mathews' fantasy value, but he's simply too talented not to re-emerge as a RB1, and soon. Mathews remains the top buy-low candidate in all of fantasy football.

I'm starting him with confidence. #1 I'm not convinced he won't start. #2 Either way, he's going to get a lot of carries against a poor run defense. #3 If Norv and AJ give Battle more carries than Mathews in what should be a high scoring, competitive game, they deserve what they get.

What round pick did Mathews owners spend to get the Chargers backup RB ?

3rd round. In two drafts.

Chargers.com has battle listed as the starter because he started the week before. There is nothing from the coaches that he will be the starter, dont believe the hype people.

That's one of the better "jeez, you guys seriously only care about fantasy, don't you" responses I've read from a team.

I do have 1 legit option besides Mathews. Hard to decide between R. Bush, Charles, and the Chargers RB2 Ryan Mathews. Thinking Bush and Charles are safer. At least I have a good record in case I mess up the decision.

Any reports about who is taking reps with the first team this week or more important is Battle taking any reps with the first team. That would worry me.

A. He sucks

B. Mathews will be the one rolling over the Saints Def.

C. I agree that a drunk cripple is able to outperform Cedric Benson, who was unable to hit the 100 yard mark, or get in the end-zone.

Mathews was listed as starter last week but.....

Does it really matter?

This. Mathews is unquestionably the better player. He will win out.
