IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 3, 2013 I don't believe there has been a thread on this yet. So let's hear it, what were your favorite movies of 2012? My top five (in alphabetical order): Flight The Grey Prometheus Silver Linings Playbook Zero Dark Thirty Honorable mentions: Argo, Lincoln, Skyfall Have not yet seen: Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Beasts of the Southern Wild (I also have not seen Les Mis, but I really doubt I'll like it)

Zero Dark Thirty came out in limited release at the end of 2012, so it counts. You guys really should see some of those movies, it was a good year for them. Broheim Steamrollers 0 Posted February 4, 2013 Django was a fantastic movie. Best movie I'd seen in a long time but then again I'm a huge Tarantino fan.
FeelingMN 273 Posted February 4, 2013 Of the ones listed, I've only seen The Grey. Good movie. Definitely worth checking out. I rented Prometheus and Looper this weekend, but only watched Looper....which started strong but then was just meh the rest of the way. I'll definitely get around to checking out Prometheus at some point. Wanna see the other movies listed too.
The Moz 71 Posted February 4, 2013 DJango -- and it isn't close -- Chris Waltz needs to be in more movies he is a hell of an actor. QT can even make Jamie Foxx look good. Just wish QT would do more than just 1 movie per 3-5 years

There were some massive plot holes for sure, but I enjoyed its philosophical aspect.
TD Ryan2 316 Posted February 4, 2013 So what's on HBO, SHO, MAX, STRZ, etc that u should watch. I have all these cable TV stations but seemingly nothing to watch! Any of these on cable yet? FeelingMN 273 Posted February 4, 2013 Not that it was Oscar worthy or anything but Ted is a good way to spend 100 minutes of your time.
IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 4, 2013 I've never even heard of Looper, which is strange given its cast. I'll have to check it out.

listen2me 23 1,906 Posted February 5, 2013 Anyone see Cloud Atlas? About the only movie I was trying to catch as it came out and I never did.
IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 5, 2013 What where the philosophical aspects you enjoyed? The origins of humanity and God's abandonment of His creation, mainly. I viewed the movie sort of like this guy did: http://io9.com/5919306/another-theory-about-the-meaning-of-prometheus
Reality 3,121 Posted February 5, 2013 Skyfall Argo Zero Dark Thirty End of Watch Django Dark Knight Rises I thought all were very good, Skyfall is the best Bond movie I've ever seen. I may allegedly have a man crush on the new Bond dude.

IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 5, 2013 The grey? That movie was meh at best. No one mentioned seven psychopaths? I havent seen it myself, but i have heard it is very good. Seven Psychopaths is alright, but it's way too cute and self-satisfied. I realize some people did not like The Grey (because they are idiots ). The list was meant to be my personal top five for 2012. Big Blue 06 195 Posted February 5, 2013 The Cabin in the Woods...Again, much better than I expected Hey, one that I've actually seen! And I agree with you, it was really pretty solid. Much better than the commericals/previews made it seem.
IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 5, 2013 I enjoyed the Cabin in the Woods. It was pretty focking hilarious, especially near the beginning.

MDC 7,590 Posted February 6, 2013 Vastly overrated Agreed. As a true blue horror fan I sort of hated it.
IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 6, 2013 Agreed. As a true blue horror fan I sort of hated it. I wouldn't classify it as horror at all. It's basically a comedy. A spoof movie more than anything else. Just something to watch if you're bored, hopefully you get a few chucks out of it.
IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 16, 2013 Update: Saw Beasts of the Southern Wild the other night. It was a surprisingly good movie. I thought it would be one of those critical darlings that wasn't actually that good, but no. It was riveting and original. Definitely won't see another movie like it. So it's in my top five for the year. Prometheus is out and into the honorable mention category. Also, I watched Black Swan again tonight. Holy hell I had forgotten what a masterpiece that movie was in the end. Darren Aronofsky is a genius.
Cdub100 3,957 Posted February 16, 2013 The origins of humanity and God's abandonment of His creation, mainly. I viewed the movie sort of like this guy did: http://io9.com/5919306/another-theory-about-the-meaning-of-prometheus I know what they wanted to do, but they did it so poorly that no one can seriously discuss the philosophicall aspects of this movie. tikigods 76 Posted February 17, 2013 I can't even remember the last really great horror/thriller I've seen.
IGotWorms 4,060 Posted February 24, 2013 New update: Saw Life of Pi in 3D the other night. Pretty damn good movie and the 3D really added a lot to it. I'm not usually a fan of 3d gimmickry but it really enhanced this movie. Highly recommend that you see it in the theaters. My new list: Beasts of the Southern Wild Flight Life of Pi Silver Linings Playbook Zero Dark Thirty Still haven't seen Amour or Django Unchained. Hoping to catch one of those next weekend. They're saying Argo is the favorite to win best picture tonight. I thought it was a pretty good movie but, to me, it was just a fun popcorn flick. I doubt I will remember much of it in a few years. I think best picture winners should be the kinds movies that have a real impact on the audience.
granta_05 3 Posted February 24, 2013 Update: Watched Argo and Flight yesterday. I really liked Argo. I can see why it's been sweeping the awards circuit and is the favorite for Best Picture. Not what I would consider a "great" movie, but my favorite of 2012 so far. Flight was pretty good. Denzel Washington was awesome, and would probably take home the Oscar most years, but he's not taking down Daniel Day-Lewis. DDL is scary good. John Goodman was solid in both movies as well. Love that guy. Played Walter in The Big Lebowski, therefore he can do no wrong in my eyes.
