Thompkins Debbie Downers

Recommended Posts

Can't wait until he has 80-100 yards and a TD tonight and all those who have been slamming him bend over backwards to try and trade for him.

Got my popcorn ready!

Pretty sure a week of corrections will improve the connection between Thompkins and Brady as well. Did you all know that Brady only had a high of 28% completion to ANY one receiver last week?

Thats Ok - already cut his azz. Went with Marlon Brown of Baltimore instead.

Besides, fock Pats WRs.... its a fusster cluck anyways. I should have known better. Even if Thompkins has a solid day, he'll disapear again for 3-4 weeks as Pats Wrs always do.

Typical false hope in a terrible decision. Good luck.

I don't understand this post. He completed 10 of 14 to Amendola and 7 of 9 to Edelman.

I had to laugh when I saw him go there -- the Baltimore offense was on display in both Denver and San Fran last week -- both games highlighted Flacco's deficiencies seeing how Kap got the ball to Boldin whenever he wanted --

Flacco makes nobody look good or enhances their fantasy value--enjoy Marlon -- Jacoby will be back working before you know it and Kenbrill will see the targets Lloyd should have gotten if he was healthy last season

Agree with parrot below. This is an impossibility considering Brady's completion rate was 55.8% (29/52). If he had a high of 28% to any one receiver, his completion percentage would have to be below 28%.

What about prime time, under the lights jitters? It may be even worse.

He's on my bench, but hoping he has a good game and can become my WR3.

thought about starting him tonight as well, worried about the cromartie match-up though...sheer volume of looks he should get with gronk, vereen, amendola all out makes it enticing

Right, because the data supports Kenbrell Thompkins being the second coming of Jerry Rice. Because the Pats never spread the ball around or keep inserting short, white guys to ruin it for all the other WRs. Because Marlon Brown didnt show some flashes of competence on a team without a true WR#1 and is clearly in the mix for targets and playing time.

Thompkins looked like a special-ed kid at a Physics conference...against the focking BILLS no less who have no secondary whatsoever.

Good Luck with Kenbrell. :D You better be in a league that awards points per breaths taken....

This seems to be an annual thing with people expecting one of Brady's outside receivers to be a big deal. No outside receiver not named Moss has EVER had a big fantasy season with Brady. People hyped Branch to go off...it never happened. Then it was Chad Johnson...no. Then Lloyd last year...sorry. Now this undrafted rookie...forget about it.

Brady favors the little squirty slot receivers and tight ends who work the middle of the field. That's where he likes to throw it. The outside receivers are usually window dressing. The only break in the trend was a freak talent like Moss. It's too longstanding of a pattern to be a fluke.

While I agree with your points on how Brady favors the players who work the middle of the field, I poise an interesting side question. Is Brady as great of a quarterback as his body of work/perception leads us to believe when he's never been a downfield passer to his #1 outside receiver? He's been a very productive & successful quarterback but is his skills on the same level of the Peyton Manning/Aaron Rodgers/Drew Brees of the NFL when considering this?

Sorry to sidetrack the thread but it's a debatable subject of both Pats fans & others as well.

I think Brady showed with Moss that, when he has a premiere talent on the outside, he can connect with them as well as anyone in the history of the game (23 TDs to Moss in '07 :shocking: ).

But when those outside guys are relatively average, as they have been most of the time, he prefers to work his targets in the middle.

Maybe a better question would be: What kind of career numbers would Brady have if he had consistently had Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Demaryius Thomas, et al, on the outside through his career?

Nope, you actually took it way out of context, bud. To say that someone completed no higher than 28% (something I read on CBS) of his TOTAL passes to any one receiver means that he spread the ball around a little. Instead if throwing 80% of his passes to one player like he did with Randy Moss, he had several targets.

Don't miss the point. All I was saying is he was very innacurate, considering all the passes he threw and the low completion percentage. So 14 targets and 4 catches by Thompkins should tell you that it was more Brady who had the bad day than anyone. That's the point you need to understand...

Did you watch one second of the game? Obviously not, if you couldn't tell that Brady couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. A couple of those routes were Thompkins' fault, but route running is his strong suit (something I'm sure you had no idea about). The problem will be fixed. If Tom Brady is Tom Brady again instead of the third string QB who stole his identity on Sunday, the problem WILL be fixed. In case you didn't know (obviously not), there is no greater indicator of the future than the past. Brady and Thompkins already have a chemistry, and most of the country has seen that. You think they just forgot how to play overnight?

Glad you found someone who is "in the mix for targets" LOL. That should definitely win you this year's trophy.

Watcehd most of the game, sparky. Thompkins looked retarded. What the hell did you watch? Did you blow your first rounder on this guy or something and are trying to justify it or whatever? C'mon man. Brady had a few offf throws but a good WR would have caught a lot more balls than Thompkins did.

Im glad for you that you have found WR gold in Thompkins. Im sure your whole league ended the season already.... the title was handed to the guy with Thompkins. Why even play the games?

Brady target will be Edelman... One of two things happens... Either Edelman explodes or all of the focus on Edelman leaves some room for Thompkins to show that he can be one of the Brady targets to be reckoned with. It is going to take some giganto balls to go with Thompkins tonight... big payoff though... Walk around with your chest out tomorrow sayin' "see I put him in... I am a genius" That is the kind of stuff that makes fantasy football fun right? Anyone can take a stud WR and throw him on their roster after he goes off.

I think thompkins should have a great bounceback week... the guy LED THE LEAGUE in redzone targets last week (with 5)... granted he didn't capitalize, but you have to believe that he will catch more than 28.6% of the balls that are thrown his way this week...

Actually, he's fighting for my flex spot and I am pretty confident he'll earn it. My WR's are Calvin and Cobb in a 12 teamer...also have McCoy. Nice try genius.

Hey, good luck with your backup in Baltimore though. I guess the special Olympics has sort of skewed your view of talent.

as a Pats homer, it isn't about being right/wrong a "downer" or a "cheerleader" - I'm just telling you what we see when we watch.

Thompkins looked great in pre-season.

He looked lost and out-of-sync in game 1.

Speculation is that the pre-season uses a lighter playbook against lesser (bubble) NFL players and bland defenses.

Thompkins excelled there - he looked fantastic getting off the line against pressure, getting open, and making the catches.... a true possesion type WR that Brady gained trust in.

Last week, not-so-much. The physical ability was still there, but he was a half step late, a half yard off, and even dropped some he probably should have caught (4 catches - 14 targets).

Give up on him? Probably not - simply for the reason that there's nobody else in NE to catch the ball. And as bad as Kenbrell was last week, he's still probably better than the guys in line behind him (Dobson, Boyce).

So fantasy football is about having players that are not only talented, but get opportunity - Kenbrell will still continue to get opportunity, the question is can he do anything with it?

Ok lets hear who you are starting him over. I would be starting him over R. White, M. Williams, and R. Streater. I have switched this position about 3 times today.

Whats everybody got?

Agree - and "opportunity" is exactly the point I make when I make mention of his 14 targets. Like I said, Tom Brady is a smart dude. He knows more about the situation than anyone posting on this message board, by a long shot. If Thompkins was half as bad as most of these people are saying, he wouldn't have a future HOF veteran QB throwing the ball his way 14 times in one game. That's common sense....

I'm starting him over B. Tate, G. Bernard & B. Brown in my flex (AJ Green & Julio are my starting WR's) I have Gronk injured & Gordon suspended. 12-team PPR league.

Starting Lacy over Thompkins in my flex in a standard league.
