Cruzer 1,995 Posted April 10, 2014 And, I have defended Garcia for years. Just mentioned earlier in the thread how he had 20+ worldwide wins when someone called him a choker. Quiet possibly for sure - my bad. Still doesn't change the fact Sneds is way in back of at least those 3 I mention as far as wanting this one bad enough. Fumbleweed 543 Posted April 10, 2014 Fair enough. You are certainly entitled to any and all opinions as a very knowledgable golf fan. You just had me totally mischaracterized.
Cruzer 1,995 Posted April 10, 2014 For the record I laid $ on: Jason Day Dustin Johnson You may not even have to wait until Sunday to be dissapointed - both are off to terrible starts.
Fumbleweed 543 Posted April 10, 2014 Johnson has made two birdies in a row to get back to +1. Day is really struggling after the long lay-off.

Reality 3,121 Posted April 10, 2014 I don't watch much golf outside of the majors but isn't it common knowledge that DJ is a choke artist?
Fumbleweed 543 Posted April 11, 2014 DJ has won a tournament in something like 6 consecutive seasons. He's hardly a choke artist. He did struggle on the final day at Pebble Beach in 2010 and hit a terrible tee shot that allowed Darren Clarke to hang on and win the British Open in 2011...but, he's had lots of success, too, including winning a WGC event and some playoff events as well. He did struggle on the final day at Pebble Beach in 2010.....I've heard of sugar coating, but yikes - this is taking it to a whole nother level..... DJ didn't just "struggle a bit" during that final round at Pebble - he GAGGED! Leading by 3 heading into Sunday's round, one of only 3 golfers under par, playing a course he's notoriously eaten alive - DJ vomited all over himself en route to a 82. An 82 that included a triple on #2, a double on #3, and six more bogeys coming in after that. He didn't record a single birdie for the day. Hell he could of shot 76 and won - even a disasterous 77 would of put him in a playoff. That was one of the biggest major championship chokes we've seen in recent times. TimmySmith 2,782 Posted April 11, 2014 The surge didn't last long - DJ and Day will both be lucky to make the cut. From the looks of things it may be an easy cut to make, +7 isn't out of the question. My opinion of DJ is an ubertalent that really does not exhibit much fire. Life has been too good to him. Life has been too good to him. I like the cut a +5, but certainy +7 is not out of the question.......... Couldn't agree more about DJ - and who could blame him? Any of us would kill to have his life - but he just doesn't bring the fire and killer instinct to the table. Many said the same about Freddy. Both freakishly long, great ball strikers with lifelong putter woes - but great off the course lives.
cbfalcon 825 Posted April 11, 2014 DJ....he MAY have more physical talent than any golfer to ever play the game. But moreso than any other sport, golf is a mental game. Whether that be the ability to think strategically, nerves under pressure, ability to adjust on the fly, ability to move on from a mistake, etc. DJ may be one of the 10 least mentally talented players in the game right now. The result is he will always be capable of winning a tournament or 3 in a given year. But he will never be in any ongoing conversation about the top 5 players in the world, you'd never trust him in the big match at a Ryder Cup, and his best chance at winning a major will always be in a situation where he emerges from a pack (less pressure). KSB2424 3,148 Posted April 11, 2014 You may not even have to wait until Sunday to be dissapointed - both are off to terrible starts. I just scanned this whole thread. You've yet to make any predictions yourself. The only one I could find was that when you said " The Rory's and the Phil's (oops) will be there on Sunday somehow." All you've done is scan the posts and degrade everyone else's predictions about the Masters without going out on any limbs yourself. Monday Morning Quaterback. The "Rory's and the Phil's (oops) will be there.." comment was in regards to the Favorites list - meaning they will always (obviously) be on everybody's list. Not that they'd be there on Sunday. I'm sorry you didn't see them. Go back and try again, they are in there. You pretty much sucked on both points you tried to make - F.
patweisers44 840 Posted April 11, 2014 Work draft. 16 entrants. Four round draft. 1.13 - Jordan Spieth 2.04 - Luke Donald 3.13 - Branden Grace 4.04 - Matt Every. Shoulda wiped my azz with the 50 bucks i think This assessment was pretty good. I actually drafted the guy that had the worst score yesterday. Worse than 800 lb Craig Stadler or 76 year old Ben Crenshaw.

He was awful. But, I don't believe him to be a frequent "choker". From a frequency standpoint, he is still one of only two guys to win a tournament every year for the last 6-7 years (Mickelson being the other). I can't, however, argue with anything you all said about the fire in his belly. That's always a hard thing to judge, but he doesn't seem to have much of it at times. The Couples comparison was a good one, I think.
edjr 6,580 Posted April 11, 2014 Why do the idiot announcers call him Candian graham delaet? Why isn't he just Graham DeLaet? They don't say American Bubba Watson. Focking assbags

But beyond that, nothing alike in my opinion. Phil was just considered ridiculously stubborn. Refused to lay off the throttle, etc. Maybe he even cared too much....... Whereas DJ just seems kinda dumb. Shows up, doesn't think, plays, whatever happens is cool, bangs a hot chick and smokes some weed after, and on the the next stop to repeat the process. Fumbleweed 543 Posted April 11, 2014 That was bizarre. McIlroy hit a wood off of 4 and hit it so far over the green that he's next to some fence. Had to take an unplayable. What was he thinking????? Nearly hit Adam Scott on the 5th tee. Now, he's got to go back to the tee. What a mess for Rory. What a horrible club choice.
Fumbleweed 543 Posted April 11, 2014 Is there any doubt that Jordan Spieth is going to win multiple majors? Kid has a TON of game. What an eagle on 15.

joeshushu 51 Posted April 12, 2014 Kooooch, I like him tomorrow. What do I know though last round of golf I played I hit a five iron my blade broke off and went further than my ball and the divot was the size of a football field. When I took my club to the shop, they couldn't believe what I did. They gave me a new club for free (prolly wanted to take my club for research).
KSB2424 3,148 Posted April 13, 2014 "I don't often play golf on Saturdays in the US...but when I do, I prefer shooting a 66"- MAJ He really is the coolest (most interesting) dude in the world. The Bubba / Spieth final pairing is must watch tv for me tomorrow. I think the winner comes out that group. I just don't see Blixt or MAJ, or Fowler being there in the end. Maybe Kuchar, but I'm rooting for the kid Spieth.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted April 13, 2014 Is there any doubt that Jordan Spieth is going to win multiple majors? Kid has a TON of game. What an eagle on 15.There is absolutely tons of doubt. Sure he has incredible skills, but so did Freddy Couples, so do Adam Scott - they both just have one each. And Sergio, the same talk and hype was said about him after he burst onto the scene as a super kid 19 year old in the '99 PGA at Medinah - he's still left to get one.. Spieth needs to start with one, then go from there. Would love to see the kid win today, but I'm still not feeling it. I actually don't see Bubba or he winning - I think the champion comes from one of the groups ahead of them.
