NewbieJr 541 Posted August 25, 2014 That was the point of the whole thing, remember? Although it doesn't surprise anyone that a bitter old boring doosh like yourself has a problem with people having fun with something.
cbfalcon 825 Posted August 25, 2014 So, MY challenge wasn't good enough. :middlefinger: It was plenty good enough. But it took until today for me to find a bucket.

Big Blue 06 195 Posted August 25, 2014 Anyone that has a problem with this really is a bit of a doosh. Yes, it's a bit attention whoorish, but if it raised that much money, so what? And I was just challenged, so I'll be donating and doing it soon.

cbfalcon 825 Posted August 26, 2014 So how is this not wasting water? "Wasting" it would be people using up our water for no reason. In this case, people are paying anywhere from $10 to $100 for a bucket of it. I haven't done the math, but that seems like overpaying for it as oppose to wasting it. And then lets consider what happens to the water. If you do it over grass, are you not somewhat watering grass? If you do it by a pool, are you wasting anything? Obviously there are variables and percentages, but how much is being wasted?

MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted August 26, 2014 I disagree with donating to the ALS foundation. Even with a 100 million dollars the cure is decades away. An extremely small percentage of the population ever suffers from ALS. The 100 million dollars would have had a much larger impact if it was donated to a malaria foundation, alzheimers foundation, or multiple - sclerosis foundation. Plus there was a recent study showing that money donated to ALS is money that would have been donated to other charities. One could make the argument that the ice bucket challenge is actually negatively effecting the research of more common diseases.

Is it "Cure or bust" or do we consider it a success if they find ways to improve the quality of life for people with ALS? And in regards to the cure for ALS being decades away.... Is there a chance that 5 decades becomes 3 due to research they can afford to do now? If so, is that worth it? How does only worrying about the very short term with no eye looking long term normally work out for us in other aspects of life?

You're as fun as a herpie And it is still wasting water, so what if one small section of grass is green while the rest if brown... Some parts of this world don't have the luxury to waste water like this and California could sure use some with their drought...

How does only worrying about the very short term with no eye looking long term normally work out for us in other aspects of life? But why not spend the money and time researching a disease that effects more people. I do believe that ALS research should be conducted, but the 100 million that has been donated would have improved the quality of life of a greater number of people if it was donated to researching a more common disease. Those charities get the short shrift because they didn't have some cutesy little Facebook marketing campaign.
