Giants Fan 85 Posted November 26, 2014 And if you were the coach, and you rushed him out there, on a lost season, and he got hurt, that would be a monumentally stupid decision. Right?
Law 241 Posted November 26, 2014 Brutal run schedule coming up for Oakland. Bingo! I got him in one league, a league I don't even need him in, but I don't expect much. 1. It's Oakland. 2. They suck. 3. Their OL sucks. 4. Their schedule is brutal. 5. It's Oakland and they suck with a bad OL and worse schedule. All that said, I took him as he could prove to be lightening in a bottle and I'd rather have him than have him beat me.
edjr 6,602 Posted November 26, 2014 Not practicing today. Sanders did not practice till Thursday last week and played the whole game and took a way worse hit
SaintsInDome2006 441 Posted November 26, 2014 Yeah but, there's some obvious reasons you can't give a guy like Jamal Charles 30 carries a game and expect him to hold up. So, you insert Thomas Jones. Veteran plodder. Takes all the hard yardage, keep Charles fresh. It's no secret, or anything, why teams do this. It's smart. Keep your mileage down on your smaller skill backs, like Sproles. Hire Lagarette Blount off the street to run it between the tackles. Put your miles on your big guys that can wear down a defense ... keep your skill guys fresh. Not hard to figure out. I remember the one big year when Charles and Jones combined was the best RB in the fantasy business. Most weeks I started both of them. Best runnjng game in the league that year, and that was the secret. Jamal charles fantasy owners were going crazy because Jones was vulturing all these yards and TDs ... so, own and start both. Worked well. Nobody ever thought Demarco Murray could put together the kind of year he has had. Nobody thought he could take the mileage. But, if you want to be a great back in the NFL, one that goes down in history as one of the best, you gotta put in full seasons. Maybe Dallas knew something we didn't, but he is Mr. Durable this year. Latavius Murray ... similar upright style with good vision, soft hands and obvious speed. I want to see him be able to stay healthy. Even though he says he's fine, even though I probably have him as active this week, despite what fantasy football people want, rushing Murray back in would be ... a monumental sized mistake, possibly. I take back my 3 TD prediction. I think they rotate him in, keep him fresh for next week and beyond. That's what I would do, if I was the coach for the Raiders. Great posts. GF, you may be right in that's what happens, I have a really shaky feeling from Sparano at that press conference. The short practice week might affect things too. However: These Raiders are not those Chiefs. Different coaches, different players. Most especially Thomas Jones was a workhorse. Between them in 2010 Jones and Charles had 475 carries, which is a crazy ton, they went 10-6. The 2011 Chiefs had 416 carries and included McCluster in the rotation (yeah Dex got carries over Charles) and they went 7-9. This Raiders running game is so historically awful it stretches the imagination. The Raiders at one point had the fewest rushing attempts since (not kidding) something like 1935. These guys are 1-10 and they just won the first game on Murray's back. There is a locker room to consider. Murray gives the team hope. Your point about what teams to do platoon the backs is a great one. What the Raiders could have done was use Reece with Murray this year and not signed/resigned McFadden and MJD. Reece is such a great back, so underutilized, they could have also drafted a rookie to help take some of the load off Murray. But at any rate someone has no idea what the hell they're doing and it might just be Reggie McKenzie. I wish we had seen Murray play a full game then we could have made a determination. Still it's interesting to me that Reece came in and got 8 carries and not surprisingly because he is a great athlete and runner he got almost 5 ypc. Needless to say that is way way better than the pathetic totals for Mac & MJD. All in all Reece and Murray together got 12 carries, Mac got 12 carries, MJD got 3 carries. That might have been where they were going that night. It's possible they awere and are envisioning a 50/50 carry share at least. One major question is if they can stay in a game long enough to run like that. I see the Rams have given up 6 100 yard+ team rushing totals this year. They have become very tough but still the yards have been there and they're offense is not exactly formidable. I'm guessing this is a game the Raiders think they could win if they play it right.
TennisMenace 156 Posted November 26, 2014 After St. Louis, Murray has three teams in the top 10 rushing defense in SF, kc, and buff I'm not saying he can't explode because he already exploded against KC earlier.

The other thing that doesnt make sense about the situation, marcell reece produces whenever the raiders need him. Not sure why they even bother with mcfadden or mjd when reece is on the roster. SuperSteelers 1 Posted November 26, 2014 The other thing that doesnt make sense about the situation, marcell reece produces whenever the raiders need him. Not sure why they even bother with mcfadden or mjd when reece is on the roster. Last year when McFadden was injured and Reece took over the starting role, I started him. Mostly because I was devastated with injuries, but more so because Reece showed his versatility. He can run and catch which fix well in my PPR league. I think we are looking too much into this. Oakland has nothing to play for other than hope. They have a young back who, in limited time, has shown he can be productive. I picked him up last week over the Gray and said he was the better of the 2. I'm starting him on the track against St. Louis in my flex - assuming he is healthy. stonewall 647 Posted November 26, 2014 As some are mentioning, I think Reese is the wildcard here. He ran great the other night, and I heard the coach say later that he deserves to be more involved. There are only so many runs to go around.
BingoBrown 8 Posted November 26, 2014 After St. Louis, Murray has three teams in the top 10 rushing defense in SF, kc, and buff I'm not saying he can't explode because he already exploded against KC earlier. Murray will be a decent play @KC, I think they're an overrated run defense (and I'm a Chiefs fan). The loss of Eric Berry won't help, either. He's not a great play at home versus SF and Buffalo, but he should be serviceable if you are desperate.
R8RMick 242 Posted November 26, 2014 Couple things here... First and foremost Sparano is a clueless clown. He's lost in playing the bad ass role out in Oakland, with his tinted ray bans at night, his gold chains, and his tough guy goatee. It's hard to get a handle on his coaching style other he sees himself some sort of old school tough guy. What a buffoon. Not been high on Reggie Mac, but he hasn't completely whiffed. Raiders have some good young talent. School's still out there but his time is running out. Marcel Reese has been underutilized by this team for years. I think they see him as more of an H Back opposed to a traditional tailback. Sparano turned to him the other night out of desperation and can assure he was not in the game plan for that role. Lastly, it would be a significant mistake to discount the Raider offensive line. It played very well last week, and basically won the game on that last drive. Jackson and Watson are coming along, Penn has been solid (though still having Veldheer would be preferred), Kalif Barnes is a steady influence, and Stefan Wisnieski is an All- Pro at center. This line is young and has solid upside potential.

stonewall 647 Posted November 26, 2014 Any news on Latty's head? With few options I'm starting Murray or Boom this weekend... He was "exercising" yesterday. Those are my two options also, and I am waiting for more news. Friday practice will tell the tale. With news that Boom will be starting again, it will be a tough decision if Murray is cleared.
wazu 14 Posted November 26, 2014 Latavius practiced Wednesday: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/26/latavius-murray-practicing-after-last-weeks-concussion/ Latavius Murray practicing after last week’s concussionPosted by Josh Alper on November 26, 2014, 3:46 PM EST Getty ImagesRaiders running back Latavius Murray had an eventful Thursday night against the Chiefs. Murray saw his profile grow exponentially when he scored on 11- and 90-yard touchdown runs in the first half of the Raiders’ nationally televised first win of the 2014 season. Just as a wider group of people were getting to know who Murray was, things took a negative turn when Murray was forced out of the game with a concussion. Sunday’s game against the Rams won’t have quite as big a viewing audience, but it looks like there’s a good chance that they’ll see Murray. According to multiple reports from Oakland, Murray was on the field and taking part in the team’s first practice of the week. That doesn’t mean he’s cleared to play Sunday, but it puts him on the right track to follow up on his four carry,112 yard breakout. The Raiders also announced a roster move on Wednesday. Tight end David Ausberry was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury and promoted defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin from the practice squad. Ausberry had two catches in six games this season and missed all of last season.

RaiderHaters Revenge 4,356 Posted November 28, 2014 Imo Reece should have been given a shot at the starting job last year and this year, all that dude does it produce everytime he gets a chance. TennisMenace 156 Posted November 29, 2014 With Murray out, his remaining schedule is daunting. Yes, he has KC again so he should do okay there, but the other two are top 5 material. It should be interesting to see how he does against the best - SF and Bills. I'm holding, if he blows up in two weeks he will be better than any WW grab out there. Might as well wait and see. Lousy luck and I'm not entirely sure the Raiders aren't pulling a fast one here, there is some kind of Peter Principle thing going on here. McKenzie committed to Mac and MJD, Sporano wouldn't play him, and he is several tiers of good above them right now, which just makes them look like huge idiots.
TennisMenace 156 Posted November 29, 2014 I agree. Why would Raiders keep this guy on their bench when the other guys have stunk all season long, especially after looking good in preseason.
Giants Fan 85 Posted November 30, 2014 Mostly I think, we have seen that this guy can run behind that line, and the two old guys, who should be good mentors, can't. If you are a Raiders fan, he's the one shining bright spot that gives you hope. If they were to rush him out there, on a lost season, and all of a sudden he's got concussion issues ... that would be the majorest fockup possible by the coaching staff. Mess up the one good thing they have. I support the sit. Let him get better. Also, the team where I have him was eliminated last week, so this week, I have a bye.
SaintsInDome2006 441 Posted December 2, 2014 So how is Bonnie Tyler feeling about Murray now? Actually I might like to get the Chiefs at home for that Oak rematch if there's no Murray around. And I wonder if as suggested further up IIRC that the Raiders just don't shut him down until next year. They have their win, they don't have to risk his health at this point. I still have him though, and I'm pulling for him and believe in him, but roster spots are precious. And oh man oh man was that game in St. Louis awful. How can you trust that offense? R8RMick 242 Posted December 2, 2014 No they need to play him, if healthy. Not only does the GM need to see if he has to draft an RB, Murray needs to develop a rapport with his QB and offensive line. Somebody mentioned the word 'hope' in this thread earlier. Right now that's a strong word for fans who's team could very well end up 1-15. Ending this season on a positive note, with some hope for next year, could have a huge impact for the organization's future.
